Abstract: Provided is a display input device including: a display portion for displaying setting screens for setting items; a storage portion for storing: a program that is a combination of setting items and is invoked to cause the display portion to sequentially display the setting screen for each of the setting items selected and registered in advance; and data for additional display, which is used for determining whether or not to perform the additional display in which the setting screen is added to the program, and which setting screen is to be additionally displayed; an input portion for receiving an input made to invoke the registered program; and a processing portion for determining, when the registered program is invoked, an additional setting item, which is the setting item to be added, based on the data for additional display, and causing the display portion to additionally display the additional setting item.

Abstract: A display apparatus for displaying accumulated data items includes obtaining means for obtaining a plurality of data items accumulated, classifying means for classifying the plurality of data items into N groups on the basis of predetermined criteria, display-control means for controlling an indication on a display unit such that the plurality of data are displayed in N display regions corresponding to the N groups, and accepting means for accepting a specification of one display region from among the N display regions. When the accepting means accepts a specification of one display region from among the N display regions, the classifying means classifies a plurality of data items displayed in the specified display region into a further N groups, and the display-control means controls an indication on the display unit such that the plurality of data items are displayed in the N display regions corresponding to the N groups.

Abstract: An information apparatus determines whether a number of color pages in a document data has increased, and when it is determined that the number of the color pages has not increased, page reduction processing is executed on specified pages in the document data, and when it is determined that the number of the color pages has increased, page reduction processing is not executed on the specified pages in the document data.

Abstract: Technologies are described herein for ranking visualization types. In order to rank the visualization types, visualization metadata is generated for each of the visualization types and data set metadata is generated for the data set. A suitability score is then computed based upon the visualization metadata and the data set metadata through the use of data mapping rules and chart selection rules. The visualization types are then ranked according to the computed scores. A user interface may then be displayed that includes visual representations corresponding to the visualization types that are ordered according to the ranking. One of the visual representations may then be selected to apply the corresponding visualization type to the data set.

Abstract: A method for integrating Really Simple Syndication (RSS) documents includes extracting a data element set from an item of an RSS document and data elements contained in the data element set through a tag processing procedure; establishing a menu pool for displaying the content of the data element set and the content of the data elements; executing an editor to compose and edit the selected data element set and data elements, so as to combine the selected data element set and data elements into a new item; and outputting the new item as a target output document. Through the method, the content of various RSS documents is integrated into a customized Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) or RSS document meeting the requirements of a user.

Abstract: Alignment and positioning of tabs in text-based applications is provided by dynamically positioning the tabs based on content, margins, page size, and indents. Tab positions are aligned relative to a size, at least one margin, or content of a document or text-containing object such as a text box. Tab positions may also be aligned relative to an indent of a paragraph or of multiple columns on the same page. Alignment properties of tab positions are carried over when text is moved to table columns or other text-containing objects. Column-like grouping of text of varying size and alignments is enabled by using multiple tabs in a single line.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for arranging photographs, drawings, videos and other media elements in a logical and visually appealing manner. Media elements may be selected, automatically or manually arranged in a progression to collectively tell a complete narrative. The arrangement for the progression may provide some direction but not limit the creator to sending single elements at a time, or using templates, pages, folders, or albums. Images may be intelligently placed and/or sized. When viewing the story, a viewer can advance through the media and understand the full story or perspective. A user may resize, move, delete or add images to enhance the story. The story may be shared with others, some or all of which may also collaborate to add or change the story progression to provide different perspectives or content.

Abstract: An integrated customer communications computer system is configured to provide outbound customer communications. The communications computer system generates documents associated with the communications in a predefined format, in real-time or in batch, by merging templates comprising static data received from a template repository, dynamic data received from at least one component of an account opening system, and static content for the templates received from a content repository. The communications computer system includes a communication manager, a plurality of transmission channels, an interface for managing the templates and the content, and a document repository. Various embodiments are described, including a computer implemented method of providing customer communications using an integrated customer communications component and/or module.

Abstract: A layout that specifies rectangular components within a container rectangle may be specified. Each rectangular component has at least one size and a gravity parameter, and can be classified as flexible or non-flexible based on the gravity parameter. The computing device determines a plurality of grid lines from the layout. Each rectangular component of the set of rectangular components is associated with at least two grid lines. The at least two grid lines are based on the at least one size of the rectangular component. The computing device generates a system of constraints, where each constraint is related to at least two grid lines of the plurality of grid lines. The computing device solves the system of constraints to determine a location for each grid line. The computing device generates a display of the rectangular components based on the locations of the grid lines.

Abstract: Various embodiments illustrated and described herein include one or more of systems, methods, software, and data structures for presentation of package files including a reference content item. Some embodiments include receiving a reference content item, such as an image, map, or calendar, and mappings of package files to locations within the reference item for display. Such embodiments may then publish the package file. Some other embodiments include generating visual representations of package files including a reference content item and one or more content items mapped to locations within a reference content item. Such a visual representation may include a view of the reference content item and a graphical element representative of the content item at the mapped location within the view of the reference content item.

Abstract: Various embodiments include one or more of systems, methods, and software for placing multiple files as a contact sheet, such as image files within an electronic document. A selection of electronic files is received along with a an area input. The area input defines an area to place a graphical representation of at least one of the selected electronic files within an electronic file being authored. Graphical representations of the selected electronic files may then be placed in the defined area.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for preparing for creating and updating electronic documents are provided. According to one aspect, a method for updating electronic documents having a first section of information includes receiving an update to the first section of information and parameters associated with the electronic documents to be updated. Upon receiving the update to the first section of information and receiving the parameters associated with the electronic documents to be updated, the electronic documents including the updated first section of information and the parameters associated with the electronic documents are automatically updated.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus which performs variable printing processing to print by inserting different contents data into a variable area of document data for each predetermined unit. The apparatus sets variable area information for defining at least a position and size of a variable area laid out in document data and creates output data in which the variable area containing the contents data is laid out in each document page in accordance with the variable area information.

Abstract: There is provided an apparatus and a method for generating an album while adequately allocating images per page in accordance to image capturing-times. The album creating apparatus has an image storing section for storing images correlating with image capturing-times of the images, a distribution-of-image-capturing-time calculating section for calculating a distribution of image capturing-times of the plurality of images stored in the image storing section based on the image capturing-times of the plurality of images stored in the image storing section, an image sorting section for sorting the plurality of images stored in the image storing section per page in the album based on the distribution of image capturing-times calculated by the distribution-of-image-capturing-time calculating section and a layout determining section for laying out the images sorted by the image sorting section per page to each page of the album.

Abstract: A browser renders a page for display according to user habits. When a user interacts with a page associated with a network address, an entry is made in a file that associates the element on the page of the user interaction with the network address. When the page is visited again, the file is checked to see if any entry exists. If an entry exists and the stored user interaction is still relevant for that page, the page is rendered so that the location the user interacted with is provided at the top of the display, or the element is re-arranged, as in the case of a table, or both re-positioning and re-arranging occurs. Such page rendering reduces the need for the user to scroll through the page to view the desired information.

The second virtual plane extends beyond the boundary of display and can be panned on display device independently of document. A digital image is selected (806) from the displayed digital images; upon selection, the non-selected digital images are at least partly hidden so that the visibility of document on display device is increased. The selected digital image is arranged (808) in an image receiving placeholder.

Abstract: A method for producing an image template having one or more openings for displaying images. The openings as well as the images are each associated with a season. The images are automatically analyzed to determine 5 which season they most likely depict. Images are then selected to be placed in a template opening designated for a particular season. This method can be used to automate calendar production.

One aspect can be embodied in machine-implemented methods that include the actions of receiving description data describing a preexisting structured presentation, comparing characteristics of the preexisting structured presentation with content of electronic documents in an unstructured collection of electronic documents to locate electronic documents that identify a new attribute that is relevant to the preexisting structured presentation, adding an identifier of the new attribute to the preexisting structured presentation to form an expanded structured presentation, and outputting instructions for presenting the expanded structured presentation.

Abstract: Performing incremental runtime composition. A method includes a computing system receiving a user input gesture modifying a diagram displayed on a diagram surface. The diagram includes a first element, a second element, and a plurality of elements connected to the second element laid out in a particular layout pattern with respect to the second element. The method further includes interpreting the user input gesture to be a gesture creating a graph by connecting the first element to the second element of the diagram. The method further includes performing an auto layout of the diagram by automatically, and without user intervention, repositioning the second element with respect to the first element but without substantially repositioning the plurality of elements with respect to the second element by moving the second element and the plurality of elements as an atomic unit.

Abstract: A system, computer-implemented method and computer-readable medium for displaying edition content of a magazine edition are provided. In an embodiment, a screen selection corresponding to a size of a screen upon which to render a magazine edition is received, the magazine edition including a content page with one or more articles. A grid with grid segments is calculated for the selected screen size. A layout for the content page is determined, the layout including a tile of one or more of the grid segments corresponding to each of the articles. Content associated with each of the articles is determined. The content of each of the articles is arranged for display within its corresponding tile. The content page of the magazine edition is displayed, the displayed page including the articles arranged for display within its corresponding tile.

Abstract: An information browsing method includes: partitioning contents of a page into a plurality of first data partitions by analyzing the contents of the page; assigning a plurality of first identifiers to the first data partitions, respectively; driving a display screen according to at least the first data partitions; and when receiving a partition selection input, determining a selected first data partition according to a first identifier corresponding to the partition selection input, wherein the selected first data partition is assigned with the first identifier.

Abstract: A product creator system includes a business application and a distribution utility. The business application enables a user to specify and/or edit (via a user client) a document. The business application generates a packet that is transmitted to the distribution utility. The packet describes the document, such as a document of a particular type (where the document is based on variable content and/or variable layout), and a distribution method for the document. Distribution methods include print, ship, mail, fax, email, and save. The distribution utility generates and distributes the document (via an output device) based on the packet. The business application, which can be used with a variety of distribution utilities, includes a web front-end and a packet generator. The distribution utility, which can be used with a variety of business applications, includes control logic and a document processor. The document processor helps generate the document.

Abstract: A document image is viewed by scrolling along only one axis. To achieve this, a document is imaged to obtain a document image. A document image having a width identical with that of a display area is generated. When such a document image is generated, character images are extracted. These character images represent characters, which are contained in the document image, in the form of images. The extracted character images are re-arrayed in accordance with the flow of characters to thereby generate a document image. Since this document image has a width the same as that of the display area, it can be viewed merely by scrolling up and down.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus performs a process of laying out sub-templates to a page to which a repeated page setting is not set. If all the sub-templates are not laid out in the page to which a repeated page setting is not set, the information processing apparatus repeatedly obtains pages to which the repeated page setting is set until all the sub-templates are laid out in the pages.

Abstract: A computer readable storage medium comprises executable instructions to receive a report for access by a user. The report is divided into sections and each section is tokenized based on the user's interests. A section score is calculated for each section in the report. One or more sections are selected for display to the user according to their section scores. The one or more sections are delivered to the user.

Abstract: A content management system (CMS) uses a simulated containment report generation mechanism to generate a simulated containment report for elements in the repository based on logged properties that represent potential use of the element during dynamic content delivery that are not represented in formal relationships in the content management system. Properties such as probability, popularity, and recent usage that are not explicit relationships between parent documents and child elements are logged and used to determine which document maps may potentially reuse a selected element. In this manner a simulated containment report can be created for an element that allows the user to see the document maps that are most likely to include the element.

Abstract: An electronic device concurrently displays snippets including a first snippet and a second snippet. The first snippet includes first displayed snippet content corresponding to a first portion of content from a document associated with the first snippet. The second snippet includes second displayed snippet content corresponding to a second portion of content from a document associated with the second snippet. The device detects a gesture associated with the first snippet, which includes detecting a first contact and a second contact and detecting movement of the first contact relative to the second contact. In response, the device modifies the first snippet to include an additional portion of content from the document associated with the first snippet that was not included in the first displayed snippet content and maintains display of the second snippet without adding any additional content from the document associated with the second snippet.

Abstract: A system and method applied to a communications network which transmits document portions in which an original document portion having an identifier portion and an information portion is replaced or swapped with a substitute document portion. The system has a controller, typically a proxy server, for reading the identifier portion of the original document portion, determining the information portion of the original document portion, and issuing a swap order when an undesired original document portion is found. A substitute document server receives the swap order and sends the substitute document portion to the controller. A swapping device or mechanism inserts the substitute document portion in place of the original document portion and the substitute document portion is passed on to the user set and displayed. The controller and swapping mechanism can be integrated with the user set or with the resources of the service provider and their functionality can reside in software.

Abstract: Technologies are described herein for dynamically laying out images and associated text using pre-defined layouts. The pre-defined layouts are created and data defining the layouts is stored in a layout definition file. An application program provides a user interface for dynamically laying out the images and associated text using the contents of the layout definition file. The user interface includes a canvas onto which a user may place one or more images and a layout gallery through which a user may select a pre-defined layout to be applied to images placed on the canvas. The layout gallery includes selectable visual representations corresponding to each of the available pre-defined layouts. When one of the visual representations is selected, the corresponding pre-defined layout is dynamically applied to images on the canvas. The visual representations displayed in the layout gallery may also be utilized to generate a preview of the layout.

Abstract: In an image processing apparatus, a plurality of images and a page allocation area including a plurality of sections are displayed. The allocation unit determines which one of the images is to be allocated to which one of the sections and allocates the images to the sections, and a preview image generating unit generates a preview image of the page allocation area based on allocation made by the allocation unit, and displays the preview image on the screen.

Abstract: In an online collage-based editor, a method for determining an effective aspect ratio for a selected project orientation that includes a group of two or more available page sizes having different aspect ratios and displaying a project page at a derived aspect ratio in the GUI during editing includes the steps (a) determining for each page size in the group, the viewable area of each page, (b) recording the aspect ratios of the viewable areas of step (a), (c) using a mathematical function, describing a total amount of error present amongst the available aspect ratios of step (b) for a given aspect ratio, (d) using a mathematical program, process, or automated calculation tool, finding the effective aspect ratio that minimizes the function and hence the error value of step (c), and (e) displaying the project page at the selected effective aspect ratio.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media for automatically and securely citing and transferring electronically formatted information and for maintaining association between the cited or transferred information and back-end information are disclosed. According to one method, a selection of media content copied from an electronic source is received. The selection of media content is inserted into an electronic destination. Citation information is automatically determined for the selection of media content by parsing a data structure provided by an author or publisher of the media content. The citation information is automatically inserted into the electronic destination. The inserted selection of media content and the citation are made uneditable.

Abstract: A system displays content from a database in a formatted view. The formatted view includes one or more data fields arranged in one or more data sections. Each of the data sections includes a sub-summary display field. The system receives a request to modify data in one of the data fields. In response, the system reformats the formatted view. The reformatting includes moving the data field from a first data section to a second data section and updating the sub-summary display field in the first data section and the sub-summary display field in the second data section. The system displays the reformatted view.

Abstract: An electronic document control apparatus verifies that content to which a digital signature has been applied has not been altered; verifies that a referential target of a new page is a signature area to which a digital signature has been applied; if the electronic document has been imparted with a policy for permitting page layout, verifies that the referential target of a new page does not include anything other than the content to which the digital signature has been applied, and if the electronic document has been imparted with a policy for permitting page layout and background rendering of content, verifies that the referential target does not include anything other than the content and a background object of the content; and determines by using at least one of the first, second and third verification means, whether or not the edited electronic document has been altered.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on one or more computer storage media, for modifying content layout for an electronic document are described. In one aspect, a method includes receiving an identification of a subset of content items identified in a first electronic document. Each content item in the subset of content items includes displayable data. A prioritization of the subset of content items is identified, and a first content item is selected based on the prioritization. A new value of a first layout property for the selected content item is calculated based at least in part on one or more initial values. A new electronic document is generated. The new electronic document includes an identification of the new value and data for generating a second graphical representation of the subset of content items based at least in part on the new value.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to automated methods and systems for generating mixed-content documents. In one embodiment, an automated method for generating a document layout includes receiving raw text, figures, references, and semantic information as input (901), and determining an allocation (1003) of text, figures, and references for each page of a document. The method also includes, for each page of the document, determining a template (1005) for displaying the allocation assigned to the page, and scaling template fields to exhibit the text, figures, and references assigned to the page. The method then renders (1007) the document with text, figures, and references allocated to each page within appropriate scaled template fields of the template selected for each page.

Further, a layout policy that indicates a corresponding fixed position in a layout of the document for each of the plurality of behavior templates is generated. The layout is composed by positioning the corresponding element associated with each of the plurality of behavior templates in the corresponding fixed position.

Abstract: A storage medium for storing text-based subtitle data including style information, a reproducing apparatus and methods are provided for reproducing text-based subtitle data including style information separately recorded on the storage medium. The storage medium includes: multimedia image data; and text-based subtitle data for displaying subtitles on an image based on the multimedia image data, wherein the text-based subtitle data includes dialog information indicating subtitle contents to be displayed on the image, style information indicating an output style of the dialog information, and partial style information indicating an output style applied to a portion of the dialog information. Accordingly, subtitles can be provided in a plurality of languages without limited to the number of units of subtitle data. In addition, subtitle data can be easily produced and edited. Likewise, an output style of the subtitle data can be changed in a variety of ways.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for the production of accented presentations using pre-defined templates and material, which presentations may be in a printed or scrap-booked format. A server system may be made available to clients over a network, that server providing templates, patterns and associated material, the server providing a client with executable instructions enabling a user to make selections to a final accented presentation. The server system may receive an order including an identification of a template and user selections, and may include an interpretive and production system that fabricates a final accented presentation, or a part of fabrication and/or assembly thereof. Detailed information on various example embodiments of the inventions are provided in the Detailed Description below, and the inventions are defined by the appended claims.

Abstract: A method of embedding evaluations in a document is described. An identifier tag is embedded in the document in response to a first user action. The document may include a web page. The identifier tag includes a review and an identifier associated with an entity that is a subject of the review. A rating tag is embedded in the document in response to a second user action. The rating tag includes a rating value corresponding to a user-selected rating of the entity that is the subject of the review. The rating value may be selected from a set of pre-determined rating values.
