Abstract: Methods, devices, systems and tools are presented that allow the summarization of text, audio, and audiovisual presentations, such as movies, into less lengthy forms. High-content media files are shortened in a manner that preserves important details, by splitting the files into segments, rating the segments, and reassembling preferred segments into a final abridged piece. Summarization of media can be customized by user selection of criteria, and opens new possibilities for delivering entertainment, news, and information in the form of dense, information-rich content that can be viewed by means of broadcast or cable distribution, “on-demand” distribution, internet and cell phone digital video streaming, or can be downloaded onto an iPod™ and other portable video playback devices.

Abstract: A display device includes a display unit, a storing unit, a navigation string generating unit, and a display control unit. The display unit includes a first region and a second region. The display unit displays, in the first region, one of a plurality of screen images managed hierarchically. The plurality of screen images includes a first screen image and a second screen image. The storing unit stores a plurality of character strings corresponding to the plurality of screen images. The navigation string generating unit includes a specifying unit and a generating unit. The specifying unit specifies a setting value selected for at least the second screen image that was navigated through to arrive at the first screen image currently displayed in the first region. The generating unit generates a navigation string including at least one of the character strings corresponding to the second screen image and a setting data representing the setting value.

Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure relate to generating a translatable and annotated multimedia or video presentation of a software program operation. An aspect of the disclosure comprises recording user interaction data that includes user interface gestures and text entries from a keyboard and other user devices while the program is operating. Embodiments of the disclosure transform recorded text and visual contents of the program to a selected format or language, annotate contents of interest, and merge recorded user interface gestures, transformed text and visual contents, and transformed annotations into the output presentation. The embodiments of the disclosure optionally generate an accessibility script in a selected format.

Abstract: Phrases in the reviews that express sentiment about a particular aspect are identified. Reviewable aspects of the entity are also identified. The reviewable aspects include static aspects that are specific to particular types of entities and dynamic aspects that are extracted from the reviews of a specific entity instance. The sentiment phrases are associated with the reviewable aspects to which the phrases pertain. The sentiment expressed by the phrases associated with each aspect is summarized, thereby producing a summary of sentiment associated with each reviewable aspect of the entity. The summarized sentiment and associated phrases can be stored and displayed to a user as a summary description of the entity.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that facilitate generation of snippets. In embodiments, text features within a keyword-sentence window are identified. The text features are utilized to determine break features that indicate favorability of breaking at a particular location of the keyword-sentence window. The break features are used to recognize features of partial snippets such that a snippet score to indicate the strength of the partial snippet can be calculated. Snippet scores associated with partial snippets are compared to select an optimal snippet, that is, the snippet having the highest snippet score.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media with executable instructions, and/or logic are provided for text summarization. An example method of text summarization can include determining, via a computing system (674), a graph (314) with a small world structure, corresponding to a document (300) comprising text, wherein nodes (316) of the graph (314) correspond to text features (302, 304) of the document (300) and edges (318) between particular nodes (316) represent relationships between the text features (302, 304) represented by the particular nodes (316) (440). The nodes (316) (442) are ranked via the computing system (674), and those nodes (316) having importance in the small world structure (444) are identified via the computing system. Text features (302, 304) corresponding to the indentified nodes (316) are selected, via the computing system (674), as a summary (334) of the document (300) (446).

Abstract: Techniques for creating documentation. A writing pattern is provided. The writing pattern may be implemented in a schema, such as an XML schema or DTD. The writing pattern includes a plurality of components and defines structure and style for the documentation. Each component corresponds to a portion of the documentation. A selection of one of the components is received. Content for the selected component is received. The documentation is formed based on the content and structure and style the style.

Abstract: A system can optionally include a social network database configured to store social network information records, each information record including at least two of: an actor, a verb, an object, and an attributed entity. The system can further include a processor configured to generate a summary of one of the information records based the on at least two of the actor, the verb, the object, and the attributed entity of the information record, display on a developer user interface a rendering screen configured to format a display model based on a developer input, the display model including a summary field configured to display the summary, and transmit to a user device an interface screen based on the summary and the model.

Abstract: Information summarization and display systems and methods are provided herein. A method includes receiving informational content from an informational content provider, the informational content comprising textual content, extracting the textual content from the informational content; analyzing words in the textual content as well as their relative positions in the textual content to determine one or more key topics for the textual content, extracting one or more sentences from the textual content that are most indicative of the one or more key topics, and generating a graphical user interface that includes a summary display.

The linguistic structure is compared to a claim template. A claim is identified based on the comparison.

Abstract: Browsing sequence phrase identification technique embodiments are presented that generally extract topically-related phrases from the pages visited by a user in a browsing session. The topically-related phrases can be used for a variety of purposes, including aiding a user in re-finding previously visited sites. This phrase identification task is performed by considering not just the pages of a user's browsing sequence individually, but also pages visited immediately before and immediately after each page. In this way, phrases found in a page can be analyzed in the context in which the page was viewed, rather than in isolation. The identified phrases are further filtered by picking those that appear on a pre-populated topic list, and then clustering to find the most informative ones.

Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided a method and system for automatically generating a summary for a textual document, and relevant applications. The method and system includes segmenting a given textual document into document segments, wherein the document segments are words, sentences or paragraphs in the textual document; extracting a number of the document segments to form an initial summary for the document; for each of the document segments in the initial summary, calculating the correlation degrees between the document segment and its neighboring document segments, wherein the neighboring document segments of a given document segment refer to the document segments within a predefined distance from the given document segment; and adding the document segments with higher correlation degrees into the initial summary.

Abstract: Alignment and positioning of tabs in text-based applications is provided by dynamically positioning the tabs based on content, margins, page size, and indents. Tab positions are aligned relative to a size, at least one margin, or content of a document or text-containing object such as a text box. Tab positions may also be aligned relative to an indent of a paragraph or of multiple columns on the same page. Alignment properties of tab positions are carried over when text is moved to table columns or other text-containing objects. Column-like grouping of text of varying size and alignments is enabled by using multiple tabs in a single line.

Abstract: The present invention discloses methods of archiving and optimizing lectures, presentations and other captured video for playback, particularly for blind and low vision individuals. A digital imaging device captures a preselected field of view that is subject to periodic change such as a whiteboard in a classroom. A sequence of frames is captured. Frames associated with additions or erasures to the whiteboard are identified. The Cartesian coordinates of the regions of these alterations within the frame are identified. When the presentation is played back, the regions that are altered are enlarged or masked to assist the low vision user. In another embodiment of the invention, the timing of the alterations segments the recorded audio into chapters so that the blind user can skip forward and backward to different sections of the presentation.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for monitoring and detecting changes in files attached to incoming emails. In one embodiment, if files are attached to an outgoing email, the change service uniquely tags each of the attached files and optionally stores local or remote copies of the tagged files. Additionally, in embodiments, the change service monitors and intercepts incoming emails. If files are attached to an incoming email, the change service identifies whether the files are tagged in a manner unique to the compare service. The change service then matches uniquely tagged files in the incoming email to corresponding files previously tagged by the change service. The change service then compares the two documents and generates reports that identify changes in the received document in relation to the transmitted document. Further, in embodiments, the change service provides visual indicators of the changes within the email application.

Abstract: An embodiment of a multiparty document generation and management system includes a document server having a user interface module, a model module, a governance module, a query module, and a suggestion module. The system allows a plurality of users to generate a document model comprising a plurality of document elements and provides suggestions to the plurality of users regarding the document model structure. The system obtains standard language for each document element in the document model and generates a complete multiparty document. Upon validation of the complete multiparty document, the multiparty document and the document model and are stored in a data storage area. Once a document model has been created, the document model can be analyzed and traversed in response to a query to provide a forecast that includes an expected result of an application of the multiparty document to the subject matter of the query.

The patent application includes elements, each having a common noun and being differentiated by a different adjective or combination of adjectives. The computer program automatically inserts the proper reference numeral or reference numerals following each occurrence of the common noun throughout the patent application.

Abstract: A system and method that allows a publisher to create a document series, associate a document with a document series and present to an end-user a series nugget displaying at least one document associated with the document series. Document series information may be inherited by each document in the document series. Document series information is stored in an asset database.

Abstract: A system and method for automatically determining a plurality of pieces of different information about a textual document from the text of the textual document are provided in which one or more particular characteristics of the text of the textual document are identified to generate a file containing the text of the textual document with the particular characteristics marked up within the text.

Abstract: Systems and methods for document creation and management to facilitate creation of documents. An example document creation and management system is configured with an input component, a processing component, and a document creation component. A document creation and management systems can allow input of data in a customizable manner via talking (or recording), touching, typing, and/or clicking. A document creation and management system may use customizable templates, so that a user, for example a physician, may more efficiently enter and review data, such as data related to a patient encounter. A navigator may import information, such as formatting and structure information, from a template to guide a user as to the input to be provided to generate a document according to the template. Document entries may be automatically sent for processing, which may include editing, transcription, encryption, etc, in a parallel or serial fashion.

Abstract: A system may aggregate highlighting information associated with a document that includes a number of elements. The highlighting information may identify one or more of the elements that have been highlighted by a group of users. The system may determine weight values for the one or more elements, generate information associated with the document based on the weight values, and provide the information.

Abstract: A method and system for truncating character strings in a computing environment. One implementation involves receiving a list including plural character strings, truncating one or more of the character strings to generate a display list of unique character strings based on determining a truncation location within each string by: for each character string, comparing the string and corresponding Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), if the string is different from the URI, then truncating the beginning of the string, otherwise if the string matches the URI, then truncating the end of the string.

Abstract: A document processing system for accurately and efficiently analyzing documents and methods for making and using same. Each incoming document includes at least one section of textual content and is provided in an electronic form or as a paper-based document that is converted into an electronic form. Since many categories of documents, such as legal and accounting documents, often include one or more common text sections with similar textual content, the document processing system compares the documents to identify and classify the common text sections. The document comparison can be further enhanced by dividing the document into document segments and comparing the document segments; whereas, the conversion of paper-based documents likewise can be improved by comparing the resultant electronic document with a library of standard phrases, sentences, and paragraphs. The document processing system thereby enables an image of the document to be manipulated, as desired, to facilitate its review.

Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for transitioning between representations of an electronic document. Elements, such as visual elements, common between a first set of elements from a first representation of the document and a second set of elements from a second representation of the document are identified. The non-intersecting elements from the first and second sets are respectively ranked in accordance with a representation relevance. First set non-intersecting elements are removed from an intermediate representation of the document, and second set non-intersecting elements are added to the intermediate representation, while the intermediate representation is not equivalent to the second representation; and respective iterations of the intermediate representation are output, such as to a display to depict a transition from the first representation of the document to the second representation of the document.

Abstract: Systems and methods for aggregating web feeds relevant to a geographical locale from multiple sources are disclosed. One embodiment includes, aggregating a web feed using identifier information included in source metadata, parsing the web feed according to mapping information in the source metadata to generate a normalized web feed from the web feed having a data structure specified by the mapping information, determining the geographical locale that is relevant to the web feed, performing filtering on the normalized web feed to determine whether the normalized web feed includes qualified content for publication, and/or publishing the qualified content to be accessible to the user on the user device through a user interface on which the qualified content is depicted as being relevant to the geographical locale.

Abstract: Automated methods are used to augment an original script of a time-based media program that contains speech with timing metadata and an indication of a confidence level with which script portions are matched with the speech in the program audio track. An editor uses a spot dialog editor tool to produce a word-accurate spot dialog master by reviewing and editing script portions displayed next to the corresponding portions of the time-based media. The spot dialog editor tool selects for review and editing the parts of the script having a low confidence match with the speech in the program.

Abstract: A document summary which includes an assemblage of a plurality of summary entries is generated for an electronic document. In the generation of the document summary, a content structure or properties within the electronic document are analyzed. The plurality of summary entries are selected from the contents of the electronic document based on the analysis of the content structure or properties. The content structure within the electronic document may include a table of contents, a plurality of spreadsheet worksheets, a plurality of document pages, etc. The content properties within the electronic document may include text formatting, paragraph formatting, paragraph sizing, etc. Preferably, the best available content structure or properties within the electronic document is identified and utilized in the selection of the plurality of summary entries. The document summary is provided to a mobile communication device in response to a request for the electronic document.

Abstract: A mobile communication terminal and text-to-speech method. The mobile communication terminal includes a display unit for displaying at least one object on a screen; a controller for identifying a depth of an activated object on the screen and finding a speech data set mapped to the identified depth; a speech synthesizer for converting textual contents of the activated object into audio wave data using the found speech data set; and an audio processor for outputting the audio wave data in speech sounds. As a result, textual contents of different objects are output in different voices so the user can easily distinguish one object from another object.

Abstract: Method for displaying a message summary by analyzing the message to identify a sending institution and a message type. A message cluster is determined from the sending institution and repository of messages for multiple users. Extracted items can be identified in the message using the message type. Then the message summary can be generated using the extracted items, the message cluster, and the message structure. These summaries can be used to efficiently summarize a large volume of messages compactly.

A method includes obtaining a plurality of canonical suffix-rewriting rules each associated with one or more words, generating a suffix tree from the words, selecting a minimum colored subset of the nodes and leaves in the suffix tree, and generating a plurality of final suffix-rewriting rules from the nodes in the minimum colored subset. Another method includes receiving applicable and non-applicable words for a suffix-rewriting rule, generating a suffix tree from the applicable words and the non-applicable words, selecting a minimum colored subset of the nodes and leaves in the suffix tree, and generating a plurality of suffix-rewriting rules, wherein each rule corresponds to a node in the minimum colored subset with a valid status.

Abstract: A method for storing, organizing and providing remote electronic access to documents. A cover sheet including a standard set of identification data characterizing each document is developed and stored. A digital version of each document is created and stored by scanning each contract. Each digital version includes a scanned image and a searchable text file, wherein the text is overlaid with the image. An index of bookmarks identifying sections of the digital version of each document is generated. Selected fields of information are captured from the digital version of the document. The documents are organized and cross-referenced in a database that includes the captured information and additional information related to each document. Designated parties are alerted of critical dates associated with each document. Remote electronic access to the documents is provided over the internet.

Abstract: Systems and methods for presenting a content summary of a media item to a user based on a position within the media item are disclosed herein. According to an aspect, a method may include receiving identification of a position within a media item residing on an electronic device. For example, the identified position may be a bookmarked position within an e-book residing on an e-book reader. The method may also include generating a content summary for a portion of the media item based on the identified position. For example, an electronic device may dynamically generate a content summary based on content of the e-book that precedes a bookmarked position. The method may also include presenting the content summary to a user of the electronic device. For example, a display of an electronic device may be controlled to present a content summary to a reader of an e-book.

Abstract: A method for determining a sentiment associated with an entity includes inputting a plurality of texts associated with the entity, labeling seed words in the plurality of texts as positive or negative, determining a score estimate for the plurality of words based on the labeling, re-enumerating paths of the plurality of words and determining a number of sentiment alternations, determining a final score for the plurality of words using only paths whose number of alternations is within a threshold, converting the final scores to corresponding z-scores for each of the plurality of words, and outputting the sentiment associated with the entity.

Abstract: A method of summarizing content around a sentiment using weighted Formal Concept Analysis (wFCA) is provided. The method includes identifying one or more sentences associated with the content based on parts of speech, identifying, at least one sentiment associated with the one or more sentences based on the parts of speech, identifying one or more keywords in the one or more sentences, disambiguating at least one ambiguous keyword from the one or more keywords using the wFCA, computing a weight for each sentence of the one or more sentences based on a number of keywords of the one or more keywords associated with each sentence, processing, an input including an indication of the sentiment, and generating a summary on the content around the sentiment based on (i) the weight, and b) at least one of i) the at least one sentiment, and ii) the indication.

Abstract: Systems and methods of summarizing documents for archival, retrieval, and analysis can be used to provide a convenient summary of the content of scanned document(s). After scanning a document or set of documents, character recognition software identifies the text on the pages. Software can produce a summary of the subjects/themes/keywords in the document(s). This summary can take several forms; e.g. an index of subjects/themes/keywords which can then be printed out as a cover sheet for that stack of documents. Alternately, the summary can be in the form of a topic cloud or histogram. The topic cloud can be made dynamic to allow a user to progressively scroll through pages of documents and watch the topic cloud evolve. The histogram can be made searchable to allow the user to view content of selected pages easily and conveniently.

Abstract: Described herein is an interactive digital software program and hardware that enables rapid acquisition of textual or audio subject matter, its conversion to editable text and immediate compression into a user understandable summary. The software program maximizes “time on task” while minimizing the time-consuming steps of “concept capture” and “compression”. The instant invention provides an accurate condensate of textual subject matter in a fraction of the time it would take to prepare such a document by manual note taking. In a single step, mobile devices such as cameras, camera phones, tablets, iPODs™, scanners and the like rapidly capture textual images convert them to OCR and to a user understandable summary in a fraction of the time it takes to process such a document by manual note taking. With more study time available for repetitious practice of the lesson, the user improves preparedness and performance on tests and presentations.

Abstract: A system displays content from a database in a formatted view. The formatted view includes one or more data fields arranged in one or more data sections. Each of the data sections includes a sub-summary display field. The system receives a request to modify data in one of the data fields. In response, the system reformats the formatted view. The reformatting includes moving the data field from a first data section to a second data section and updating the sub-summary display field in the first data section and the sub-summary display field in the second data section. The system displays the reformatted view.

Abstract: Various embodiments for providing a natural language narrative are described. Embodiments may include a summary engine that collects data about an event, and selects a template to narrate a story about the event. A template may include static text, slots for data from the event, and slots for dynamic word choice. Templates may be selected according to a story type and story “flavor.” Templates may also include conditions that determine a choice of the use of template sub-sections. Various aspects of the templates may be selected randomly, to create the impression that the story is human-generated. The stories may be published to a variety of locations and formats. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on one or more computer storage media, for modifying content layout for an electronic document are described. In one aspect, a method includes receiving an identification of a subset of content items identified in a first electronic document. Each content item in the subset of content items includes displayable data. A prioritization of the subset of content items is identified, and a first content item is selected based on the prioritization. A new value of a first layout property for the selected content item is calculated based at least in part on one or more initial values. A new electronic document is generated. The new electronic document includes an identification of the new value and data for generating a second graphical representation of the subset of content items based at least in part on the new value.

Abstract: Example methods and apparatus to display summary information for an electronic book are disclosed. A disclosed example method involves, during an electronic book reader session, receiving a request for a summary associated with an electronic book. The example method also involves obtaining a marker indicative of a location in the electronic book and obtaining the summary for a portion of the electronic book demarcated by the marker. The summary is displayed via the electronic book reader.

Abstract: Systems and methods for presenting a content summary of a media item to a user based on a position within the media item are disclosed herein. According to an aspect, a method may include receiving identification of a position within a media item residing on an electronic device. For example, the identified position may be a bookmarked position within an e-book residing on an e-book reader. The method may also include generating a content summary for a portion of the media item based on the identified position. For example, an electronic device may dynamically generate a content summary based on content of the e-book that precedes a bookmarked position. The method may also include presenting the content summary to a user of the electronic device. For example, a display of an electronic device may be controlled to present a content summary to a reader of an e-book.

Abstract: Short POI titles are generated by removing unnecessary administrative area prefixes from existing POI titles and replacing necessary administrative area prefixes with shorter aliases. Administrative area prefixes are identified and analyzed to determine whether they are necessary. The analysis includes determining (1) whether the remainders with the prefixes excluded include a common suffix as a prefix, and (2) whether the remainders are unique in an applicable metropolis area. If a remainder does not include as a prefix a common suffix and is unique in the applicable metropolis area, the corresponding prefix is determined unnecessary and removed from the existing POI title to generate a short POI title. Otherwise, the corresponding prefix is determined necessary and replaced with a shorter alias to generate a short POI title.

Abstract: A method executed by a computer of generating a repurposed document includes: providing a representation of a first document with no explicitly defined structure, extracting structural information for the first document using a set of predefined rules, determining a first content item formatted using a first style of the first document using the structural information, applying a second style to the first content item in order to generate a second content item, and generating the repurposed document using the second content item, wherein a visual significance hierarchical score is maintained between the first and second content items.

Abstract: A citation record extraction system is provided for extracting citation records from publication list pages having different layouts and contents. An HTML rendering engine receives a publication list web page, parses the publication list web page to obtain layout information of the web page. A web page sequence builder generates a web page characteristic sequence for the web page according to the layout information. A web page repeated pattern analyzer analyzes repeated patterns presented in the web page characteristic sequence, screens out non-citation records therefrom, and obtains a citation record of the publication list web page.

Abstract: Electronic content may be formatted using tag format stacks that store format information up to a predetermined location in the electronic content. The electronic content may be formatted for display using data in the format tag stack and without parsing the entire electronic content. In some aspects, an encoder may receive content that includes a predetermined format and body text. The encoder may parse the content via a sequential process to identify active format tags at certain locations within the content. Next, the encoder may store the active format tags as a format tag stack in the content. In further aspects, a decoder may select a portion of the content for display. The format tag stack may be updated by parsing the portion of the content that is not included in the format tag stack. The content may be formatted based on instructions of the updated format tag stack.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for summarizing multiple documents by generating a model of the documents as a mixture of document clusters, each document in turn having a mixture of sentences, wherein the model simultaneously representing summarization information and document cluster structure; and determining a loss function for evaluating the model and optimizing the model.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the present invention provide a system that typesets and renders a document in a platform-independent manner. During operation, the system first obtains the document, wherein the document includes text content and associated style information including one or more fonts. The system also obtains platform-independent font metrics for the one or more fonts, wherein the platform-independent font metrics include information that can be used to determine the positions of individual characters in a rendering of the document. Next, the system uses the platform-independent font metrics to determine how the document is divided into line fragments and pages. Finally, the system uses the determined division while rendering the document, so that the division of the document into line fragments and pages is the same across different computing platforms.
