Abstract: An initial browser window establishes itself as a “master” window for an associated server. A master window “cookie” data structure is created by the master window to share state among the windows for the server. Through the initially created master window cookie, all subsequently created browser windows detect that a master window is currently active, determine the master window's window name, and then establish themselves as slave windows through the master window. Slave windows call into the master window to request server updates/events, and provide the master window with their respective window names for future reference, e.g. when the master window distributes updates/events received from the server to the slave windows. The master window uses only a single HTTP GET command to fetch and dispatch updates/events associated with itself and all slave windows for the server.

Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for distributed discussion collaboration and making an agenda for an event over a network. In an embodiment, a system may include an aggregator configured to aggregate discussion items submitted by collaborators, and a view controller associated with the collaborators and configured to provide for display the aggregated items. A system may also include a voting module configured to receiving voting information submitted by the collaborators for the discussion items, and an ordering module configured to analyze the voting information and order the aggregated items based on the analyzed voting information. In another embodiment, a method includes aggregating discussion items submitted by collaborators and receiving voting information for the aggregated items.

Abstract: In embodiments of the disclosed technology, a plurality of ratings of websites is received, wherein each rating is associated with a category and a rater and each rater is associated with at least one group. A selection of a category is received from the user, wherein the user is associated with at least one group. One website location (or a plurality of website locations) is provided in the category to the user based on at least one rating of the plurality of ratings provided by at least one of the raters, wherein at least one group associated with the rater and at least one the group associated with the user are the same group.

Abstract: Users of a social networking system post questions for other users to answer. Questions are automatically tagged based on keywords extracted from text within the posted questions as well as user-selected tags. Users also browse questions asked by other users on the social networking system using an interface that displays questions by topics and sub-topics. Answers may be voted on and sorted by social information related to the browsing user. Affinities for tags are recorded based on users' interactions with the question and answer service. Affinities for tags may also be used to target questions to other users and sort answers.

Abstract: Digital television channels are preemptively cached based on a modeling of a user to reduce delays while switching channels. A current television channel is selected using a first tuner. A future television channel selection of the user is then predicted based on a modeling of the user. The recorded content of the predicted future television channel is preemptively cached using a second tuner. A buffer of the recorded content of the predicted future television channel is displayed when the user switches from the current television channel to the predicted future television channel. The modeling of the user is updated and stored in storage.

Abstract: A system for handling a data refresh procedure in a production execution system includes a network having data processing units running a MES software for controlling and monitoring a production process operating production components. A production modeler within the MES software defines a business logic that includes a plant model of the production process and the operating procedures for the production components in a graphical environment. A client application builder within the MES software provides a WEB based graphical user interface for generating cross-functionality graphic screens that form part of the network as presentation clients and display data stemming from the production components and being manipulated by the production modeler, where required. The production modeler defines a presentation logic operating the cross-functionality graphic screens, and updates the data at the presentation clients exclusively when the business logic requires the update to the presentation logic.

Abstract: A system for displaying files over a local area network or over the Internet. The method includes the steps of defining headings for either non-comparative information or comparative information within any company or government entity or within any vertical market, listing either hierarchical information or the products or services of vendors in a vertical market, including vendors that do not have a Web presence, and providing a means of soliciting products or services or other information not listed. The step of displaying files eliminates the wait for the latency period of successive server round trips after the first server round trip, saving user functional engagement time. The method allows the user to disconnect the user computer from the Internet once all database information files are downloaded, and, since any subsequent information files viewed are resident in the user computer, the current method is faster than existing methods.

Abstract: A system for organizing, displaying, and interacting with information on a display device includes a computer processor and a memory device. The memory device stores at least one piece of computer code executable by the computers processor and data used by the computer code. A display device is structured to display a graphical interface to a user based on the computer code executed by the computer processor. Input devices are structured to receive information from the user based on one or more images of the graphical interface displayed on the display device. The computer code includes a main display module for providing a main display area of the graphical interface, and for organizing digital objects in a plurality of layers. The layers include a base layer corresponding to a base-surface of the main display area, and a fixed layer corresponding to a fixed-surface of the main display area.

Abstract: In general overview, the present disclosure is directed to a system and method for selectively displaying a frame of an application user interface on a mobile computing device. A user interface analyzer on a mobile computing device analyzes a user interface for an application executing on a remote server. The user interface analyzer identifies frames in the user interface, the positions of the frames, relationships between frames, and horizontal and vertical panning offsets to move between adjacent frames. The mobile computing device receives a user input requesting the display of an adjacent frame. Based on the information the user interface analyzer obtained, the mobile computing device displays an adjacent frame of the user interface.

Abstract: An approach that facilitates explicit use of user context objects in a virtual universe is described. In one embodiment, there is a user context object tool that includes a user context object retrieving component configured to retrieve the plurality of user context objects for presentation to the avatar. A user context object selection and modification component is configured to receive a user context object selection and any desired modifications made to the user context object selection. A user context object permissions component is configured to permit the avatar to interact with the virtual universe in accordance with the user context object selection.

Abstract: The invention relates to a technique for controlling the distribution of content items such as advertisements, news, etc., to user devices in a mobile communications network. A method embodiment of the technique is performed in a distribution control gateway of the mobile communications network and comprises the steps of receiving, from a content provider server, a target user indication indicative of one or more target user devices for presentation of a content item; accessing a provider registry for determining a provider authorization of the content provider server; accessing a user registry for determining a user authorization for receiving the content item from the content provider server; and initiating a transmission of the content item to one or more of the target user devices.

Abstract: Communication system management apparatus, methods, and interfaces are disclosed. A group of objects that are associated with different types of communication system components in a representation of a communication system are configured in a group. A further representation of the objects of the group is provided, and includes an indication of component operational status for one or more communication system components respectively associated with one or more of the objects of the group. The further representation of the objects of the group may also or instead provide access to the objects of the group, so that information associated with the objects may be more easily displayed, for example. The communication system representation and the group representation are provided in a Graphical User Interface (GUI) in some embodiments.

Abstract: Methods 300 and systems 400 are provided for creating customizable user interface wrappers for a web application using a software development platform with a plug-in architecture 100. The development platform is used to create one or more declarative descriptions in a predefined plug-in format which define the customized user interface. The declarative description is accessed to generate the user interface wrapper, and the web application is enabled to operate using the user interface wrapper. The declarative description may be in the form of an XML file implemented as an extension listed in an extension directory of a plug-in. The attributes specified in the declarative description may be tailored to run the web application on a given platform, such as an operating system implemented on a predefined type of computer.

A first application server can receive database data from a database server. The first application can process the database data to generate publication data. A second application server can receive the publication data from the first application server. The second application server can process the publication data to generate web data. The second application server can then send the web data to a web server for pushing to a web browser.

Abstract: An enterprise-based social networking application. Events for individuals may be collected from various enterprise-based information systems automatically using adaptors that are specially tailored for particular types of information systems. Such events may then be used to populate event feeds regarding individuals in that enterprise. A filtering model for formulating event feeds identifies events by individual, event type, and event time. The filter also identifies which individuals are in which group of a participant, and identifies which groups correspond to which event types. Incoming events may then be filtered into the event feeds depending on the group to which the individual belongs. A user interface for a participant to view and edit group membership is also provided.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems, apparatus, methods, and computer readable media for interfacing with a phone system in an on-demand service environment. In one embodiment, a client machine is in communication with a data provider and the phone system. The phone system is operated by a phone provider separate from the data provider. A message is received at the client machine from the phone system. The message includes information regarding a phone event in relation to a phone call. The phone event information is provided in a first part of a user interface in a web browser on the client machine. A second part of the user interface is capable of displaying information received at the client machine from the data provider. The first part of the user interface and the second part of the user interface are adapted to communicate with one another. For example, the first part of the user interface is adapted to send a message including the phone event information to the second part of the user interface.

Abstract: An interactive web application framework allows a user to define user interface and logic of a web application and publish the web application. A web application system can receive a database notification from a database server. The database notification can indicate that an update of a user interface item has occurred in a database. The database notification can be generated by the database server in response to a request from a user device. The request can be a request to receive information when any state change occurs at the database server. The web application system can initiate communication with the user device without responding to a specific request requesting the update. The web application system can generate instructions for refreshing the user interface item in a browser, and push the instructions to the user device.

Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a connection manager that includes a dialer configured to interact with a modem to provide a connection to a service provider. The connection manager includes a graphical user interface and an advice window. The graphical user interface is configured to manipulate parameters associated with the connection. Abstract: A portable terminal equipped with a projector and a method for displaying data using the portable terminal provides capabilities for both conferencing and video presentations. When a projection function is selected in the portable terminal while the portable terminal is making a video call with other portable terminal, presentation data that will be output via the projector is transmitted to another portable terminal. The presentation data and image data transmitted from the other portable terminal is output via the projector of the portable terminal.

Abstract: A workspace container provides data content in a generic way with interfaces and tools common to data of different types. The container has an owner, and may include one or more activities, which each have an objective and are associated with various resources to accomplish the objective. User interaction in the container transforms the container contents and is persisted with the container. Different data types are represented uniformly from the perspective of data input, data access, and display rendering. Additionally, common tools can be embedded within the container, which receive content items and user-generated content as input to transform the container contents at a runtime of the container. The container may also be collaborative, with multiple users having access to the data content simultaneously (except for actual content collisions). The container may be exposed to another user through request-to-perform techniques as passed through a work package.

For example, one system for interpreting physical interactions with a graphical user interface is a device having a housing configured to be grasped by a user, a display disposed in the housing, the display configured to display a graphical user interface, and a sensor disposed in the housing, the sensor configured to detect a movement of the housing in a degree of freedom. The device also includes a processor disposed in the housing and in communication with the display and the sensor, the processor configured to receive a sensor signal from the sensor, the sensor signal comprising a parameter associated with the movement, to determine a command associated with the graphical user interface based on the parameter, to determine a function to be executed based on the command, and to execute the function.

Abstract: A method for communicating information includes ranking, by a central processing server, one or more available communication modes according to a context of a recipient of a communication and one or more rules. The ranked available communication modes may be communicated to a sender of the communication. The context of the recipient corresponds to the availability of the recipient and/or the location of the recipient. The available communication modes correspond to capabilities associated with devices that are in proximity with the recipient. Whether devices are in proximity with the recipient is accomplished by locating the devices via a device location server. The communication modes may be ranked according to a cost and/or appropriateness of the available communication modes.

Abstract: A real time notification system that tracks, for each user, the logon status of selected co-users of an on-line or network system and displays that information in real time to the tracking user in a unique graphical interface. The invention provides user definable on-line co-user lists, or “buddy lists”, that track specific co-users in real-time automatically. A user can create many separate buddy lists of co-users, either with intersecting or disjoint lists of users, and label these buddy lists according to the user's preference. The user can update a buddy list or create new buddy lists whenever necessary. When a user logs on to a system, the user's set of buddy lists is presented to the buddy list system. The buddy list system attempts to match co-users currently logged into the system with the entries on the user's buddy list. Any matches are displayed to the user. As co-users logon and logoff, a user's buddy list is updated to reflect these changes.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided for remote rendering of computer graphics. The system includes a graphics application program resident at a remote server. The graphics application is invoked by a user or process located at a client. The invoked graphics application proceeds to issue graphics instructions. The graphics instructions are received by a remote rendering control system. Given that the client and server differ with respect to graphics context and image processing capability, the remote rendering control system modifies the graphics instructions in order to accommodate these differences. The modified graphics instructions are sent to graphics rendering resources, which produce one or more rendered images. Data representing the rendered images is written to one or more frame buffers. The remote rendering control system then reads this image data from the frame buffers. The image data is transmitted to the client for display or processing.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture for managing global annotations made for data elements that may be instantiated (e.g., displayed) by a variety of different type applications are provided. By anchoring the global annotations to the data element, rather than the particular data source containing the data element at the time the data element was annotated, the annotation may be retrieved from any application that instantiates or displays it.

The single user interface includes options for transmitting an access management instruction to a customer internal application via an on-premise proxy, and transmitting another access management instruction to a shared computing system application via a multi-customer gateway on the shared computing system. The user interface is adaptively adjusted to highlight suggested access entitlement operations based at least in part upon expected access entitlements derived from a prediction engine.

Abstract: A system and method for loading and playing multimedia information are disclosed. A navigator sends a series of play orders that each play order demands for playing a corresponding multimedia segment. A playing engine demands a loader to provide the corresponding multimedia segment according to related play order. A decoder is used to decode the provided multimedia segment for playback. Each play order may be delivered even the multimedia segment corresponding to its previous play order has not been played completely yet. The information discontinuity disadvantage can be eliminated since there is a smooth multimedia information stream provided for the decoder.

Abstract: A system and method for generating an information stream summary using a display metric is provided. An information stream including a plurality of information stream items is received. A display metric is calculated for each of the plurality of information stream items. The information stream items are grouped into one or more summary objects. A size is assigned to each of the one or more summary objects and the one or more summary objects are displayed based on the assigned size.

Abstract: A system and method for enabling structured communication among a social network is disclosed. The system enables a user to formulate a question and answer pattern including potential responses to the question based upon the form of question. The system then translates and transmits a message including the question and answer pattern to users over a plurality of different messaging platforms for eliciting responses to the question using the answer pattern. The system then aggregates responses to the question and presents the responses in a summary format. A language for defining messages according to static and dynamic content and other attributes is disclosed. Collaborative filtering reduces the decision space and as a result increases the possible range of specialized communications a user can choose from and apply or the message processing space available to contemplate alternatives resulting in more effective choices.
