Abstract: Disclosed herein, among other things, is a system comprising a content repository, a communication portal developer, a content manager, and an analytic engine. The content repository is adapted to store electronic content in a computer-readable storage medium. The communication portal developer includes at least one wizard to create a plurality of customizable portals without coding software. Each customizable portal is accessible to one or more selected visitors through a web browser. The content manager is adapted to publish selectable electronic content to selectable portals. The content manager includes at least one wizard to populate and manage the electronic content within the content repository. The analytic engine analyzes electronic content use and visitor behavior while logged into their customizable portal. In various embodiments, the analytics are provided in real time or near real time. Other embodiments are disclosed herein.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for integrating portlets. When viewing portlets within a portal container, a user is presented with a choice of one or more sources of data and, for each source, one or more actions that the user can take regarding the source. When an action is selected, it causes the source data to be transferred to one or more “target” portlets that have also been activated by the user. The set of actions available from a given source is automatically provided given the available target portlets. As each portlet is initialized, it informs a “broker” of the actions that the portlet supports along with the type of data that is used by the action. When a portal page is being constructed, each portlet identifies to the broker the sources of data within the portlet along with the values and data types corresponding to the sources.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to systems, methods, and computer readable media for providing to a first user of a first social-networking site information associated with a second user of a second social-networking site, where the second user is not registered at the first social-networking site. In some embodiments, the first user registered at the first social-networking site requests information associated with the second user at the second social-networking site to be added to the presentation feed of the first user on the first social-networking site. After the first user is authenticated by a second social-networking site to receive information associated with the second user, the information associated with the second user is displayed to the first user on the first social-networking site.

Abstract: A method for accepting a request, comprising mapping the request to a control tree factory, generating a control tree from the factory based on the request wherein the control tree can include at least one control, advancing the control tree through at least one lifecycle stage based on the request, generating a response wherein the response can be used to render at least a portion of a graphical user interface (GUI), and wherein the at least one control can represent a graphical element of the GUI.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for controlling where dynamically-added content will be positioned within the layout of a content aggregation view (e.g., for controlling where content that is created by a portlet will be rendered within a portal page). In preferred embodiments, weighting values are assigned to the portlet, and these values are used to determine the portlet's relative placement. The values may be assigned at development time, at deployment time, and/or at run time. Using disclosed techniques, content placement is more predictable and consistent, and related content can be grouped together when rendered even though that content is not simultaneously rendered.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for tiered customization for an application with a plurality of users. In one embodiment, an application with various options for different users has a tiered system for customization to provide cost efficiency. For example, in a tiered system for customization, multiple option values can be specified for one option at multiple tiers of user group hierarchy and resolved based on the tier hierarchy to balance the capability for deep customizability, and the efficiency of resource usage. For example, a deep customizable hosted Customer Relationship Management (CRM) application allows customization from company level to individual user level.

Abstract: An object is to easily store a data required for actuating a portable terminal, which is used in association with an identification data of a user, while maintaining the security. The present invention comprises a data reading/writing device having a function of reading out data stored in a memory medium of a portable terminal and a function of writing, to the memory medium, an applicable data which is required for the portable terminal; and a data collation device for collating an identification data which is peculiar to a user of the portable terminal, which is read out from the memory medium by the data reading/writing device, with a user registration data which is registered in advance, and for outputting a writing command to the data reading/writing device only when the data are consistent. The data reading/writing device writes the applicable data to the memory medium on condition that there is an input of the writing command.

Abstract: A data-descriptive meta language file, such as XML, is created that defines the layout operation within the visual interface of a component-based application at runtime. At runtime, the application receives a data-descriptive meta language file that defines the layout operation of the various components within the application visual interface. The application parses the data-descriptive meta language file and uses the parsed information to complete the layout and operation of the rendered interface. The runtime application includes functionality that uses selected data to specify unique applications and/or unique content associated with the application.

Abstract: Systems and methods that enable a customer to receive assistance from a staff member located in a store that is remote from the location of the customer. The system and methods enabled the customer to request information from the staff member about a product and the staff member to provide information about the product.

Abstract: A system and computer implemented method comprises: (a) receiving, via a computing device, configuration data comprising unique settings and areas to clone from a site cloning page of a base site; (b) pulling all content to be cloned that is located from at least one database based on the configuration data; (c) creating a new site having a framework, the framework comprising site structure and being initially empty; and (d) copying the content from the at least one database into the framework of the new site to create a site clone of the base site customized with the configuration data.

A portal managing component is operable to retrieve a portion of the meta control hierarchy from a cache and create the remaining portion of the meta control hierarchy that does not exist in cache from an XML markup file of the portal.

Abstract: User information is provided to web applications by embedding a widget in a web page served to a user's client from a web application server. The widget is a software component that is configured to retrieve user information from a user information web server repository in response to a request by a web application for user information. The widget is also configured to request user permission to retrieve user information from the repository and to request user verification of retrieved information prior to providing the retrieved information to the requesting web application. The user information widget is configured to authenticate a user prior to retrieving user information from the repository. The user information widget authenticates a user by requesting credentials from the user and verifying that the received credentials are valid for the user.

Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for indicating input focus in a portal environment. A method for indicating user input focus in a portal environment can include assigning an unfocused style sheet to all unfocused portlets in a portal except for a focused portlet having input focus. A focused style sheet further can be assigned to the focused portlet having input focus. Subsequently, each of the focused and unfocused portlets can be rendered in the portal. Responsive to a new portlet in the portal acquiring the input focus from the focused portlet, the focused style sheet can be re-assigned to the new portlet while the unfocused style sheet can be re-assigned to the focused portlet which no longer has input focus. Subsequently, the new portlet and the focused portlet which no longer has input focus can be re-rendered in the portal according to the style sheets.

Abstract: Various technologies and techniques are disclosed for integrating structured accounting data with unstructured data. From an application that manages structured accounting data related to an entity, a user selection is received to create a document container for a collaboration tool. The document container is used for storing unstructured data related to the entity. In response to the selection of the create option, a site creation service is launched for automatically creating the document container using settings previously specified by an administrator on a configuration screen of the application. Once the document container is created, unstructured data related to the entity is stored in the document container. The user can view and navigate between the structured accounting data and unstructured data without having to leave the application. Unstructured data is automatically published to the document container for the entity as users interact with the application.

Abstract: Enabling network-accessible applications to be integrated into content aggregation frameworks (such as portals) and to become dynamically interactive through proxying components (such as proxying portlets), thereby providing run-time cooperation and data sharing.

Abstract: A portlet state maintenance system can include a portal page setup component configured to generate a logical form in a single portal page from a multiplicity of forms defined within portlet markup aggregated into the single portal page. A portal state save component further can be configured to save state values for selected portlets defined within the logical form. Finally, a portal state restore component can be configured to restore the saved state values in refreshed portlet markup for the selected portlets. Notably, a refresh timing component further can be configured to embed submit auto-initiation logic in the single portal page responsive to identifying a dynamic refresh requirement associated with the portlet markup in the single portal page. Finally, a portlet markup cache can be coupled to the portal state restore component.

Abstract: A feedback system for visual content is described that allows individual users to obtain feedback regarding selected visual content. The feedback system includes a content navigation enhancer that provides useful navigation and feedback features to a feedback-providing user. When the selected visual content includes a plurality of screens of visual content, the content navigation enhancer may associate an identifier with each of the screens, where each identifier provides a link to its respective screen. The content navigation enhancer may ensure that all of the identifiers are displayed on a user interface, regardless of which screen of visual content is simultaneously displayed on the user interface. Thus, the feedback-providing user has access to all of the screens, regardless of which screen is currently being displayed. Accordingly, the feedback-providing user may select a desired screen to submit corresponding feedback, and may understand a flow or order of the screens of visual content.

Abstract: The present invention creates a partial control tree rather than a full control tree of a portal upon user's rendering request, wherein the partial control tree may contain only active controls in the portal while is still sufficient for rendering the portal. Such an approach improves performance and scalability characteristics of the portal, which depends on the size of the portal, i.e., number of controls on the portal. Abstract: Telephony and digital media services may be provided to a plurality of locations, such as to a plurality of homes and offices, though the deployment of telephony and digital media services devices to the locations, wherein each device is configured to function as a voice, data and media information center. A system in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention includes an application store and an application intelligence subsystem implemented on one or more computers. Each of the application store and the application intelligence subsystem is communicatively connected via a network to a plurality of such telephony and digital media services devices. The application store is operable to provide applications via the network for installation and execution on each of the plurality of devices. The application intelligence subsystem is operable to obtain and report information about applications installed and executed on each of the plurality of devices.

Abstract: Techniques for providing limited access to data stored in records of databases are disclosed. The techniques can be implemented in a database program operating on a computer system. The database program can provide a Graphical User Interface that can be used to conveniently define calculation expressions that limit operations on the records of the database. The calculation expression can be defined for a user or group of users with respect to a particular operation that can be requested to be performed on the records of the database. The calculation expression can be defined based on fields of the records, as well as other information, for example, various state variables of the database (e.g., date, time, number of records, etc.) The calculation expression can, in turn, be evaluated with respect to each record to determine whether a request to perform an operation on that particular record should be granted or denied.

Abstract: Systems and method for using flash variables as import parameters for a dashboard in a portal environment are presented. One or more values that define a portal environment that displays a graphical dashboard are determined. The dashboard is adapted to display in the portal environment graphical representations of data from a data source connected with a backend system. A flash object is generated for retrieving selected data from the data source connected with the backend system based on a request for the data from the dashboard, and for generating the graphical representations for the dashboard. One or more flash variables corresponding to the one or more values are generated, the one or more flash variables defining the selected data of the data source to be retrieved based on the one or more values. The one or more flash variables are inserted into the flash object for retrieving the selected data from the data source.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for tracking real-time communication data within a single contact tracking application for diverse communication providers and applications. A global data store is synchronized with real-time communication data, such as presence, status, unread messages, and unread notifications, from each application/provider. Real-time communication data for contacts dynamically determined to be recent contacts is retrieved from the data store, based on properties such as a most recent communication time, a communication count, and the like. Real-time communication data corresponding to contacts identified as pinned contacts for which display of real-time communication data is preferred, also may be retrieved. A user interface is generated for displaying the one or more recent and/or pinned contacts, which may vary in size based on the number of contacts identified as pinned contacts, from which a contact may be selected for real-time conversation or e-mail.

A desktop generated by the selected copy of the VM is presented to the user in a common application graphical user interface, the common application graphical user interface being used regardless as to whether the selected copy of the VM is the local copy or the remote copy.

In the method, data associated with presentation of content is transmitted from a communication system, the data including information regarding an event. Abstract: The apparatus and methods of the present invention implement a computer-based system and procedure for the efficient and effective operation of one or more clinical trials using an IRB. The various methods are deployed against the backdrop of an Internet-based Software As A Service (SaaS) platform, allowing access to the system by all relevant participants. Each authorized participant in the clinical trial can have a customized and customizable view of the clinical trial and interact with the other participants electronically. The various documents required for completion of the clinical trial or study, as well as the various compliance documents needed to satisfy regulatory agencies are all available for review via the Internet. By utilizing the methods and system of the present invention, greater protection is offered for the human subjects of the clinical trials. Further, the sponsors, investigators, and the study participants can experience increased productivity.

A particular application of the invention is directed to on-line apparel shopping involving a color matching scheme using color codes provided with images to be merged. For example, on-line viewing of one article, such as clothing, on another structure, includes creating an item from image-data corresponding to a colored article selected by an on-line viewer from an on-line viewer site with an image of a colored structure selected by the on-line viewer, and indicating whether the colored article and the colored structure satisfy a color-matching criterion.

The product manufacturing system is provided with a message acquiring section that acquires the original message sent along with the product from the sender to the recipient, an encryption calculating apparatus that generates a calculated encryption value by using a hash function to compress a calculation target message extracted from the original message, and an imprinting control section that controls imprinting of the calculated encryption value onto the product.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to portal view rendering and provide a method, system and computer program product for managing portal page response times. In one embodiment, a portal data processing system can include a portlet aggregator coupled to a portal server and configured to aggregate portlets in a portal page and to serve the portal page to a requester over a computer communications network. The system also can include a response time monitor coupled to the portal server and configured to measure response times both for the portal page and the portlets in the portal page. Finally, the system can include a response time remediation processor coupled to the response time monitor and configured to disable underperforming ones of the portlets in the portal page so as to improve the response time for the portal page.

Abstract: A system and method that evaluates privacy policies from web sites to determine whether each site is permitted to perform operations (e.g., store, retrieve or delete) directed to cookies on a user's computer. Various properties of each cookie and the context in which it is being used are evaluated against a user's privacy preference settings to make the determination. An evaluation engine accomplishes the evaluation and determination via a number of criteria and considerations, including the cookie properties, its current context, the site, the zone that contains the site, and any P3P data (compact policy) provided with the site's response. The user privacy preferences are evaluated against these criteria to determine whether a requested cookie operation is allowed, denied or modified. A formalized distinction between first-party cookies versus third-party cookies may be used in the determination, along with whether the cookie is a persistent cookie or a session cookie.

The system and method aggregates the functionality and services of the plurality of remote servers, wherein the aggregated functionality and services of the plurality of remote servers is controlled via the graphical user interface.

Abstract: A method and system for displaying the trusted status of a website by displaying a trust symbol that is displayed as part of the website so that they trust symbol does not scroll when the website is scrolled, preventing the trust symbol from ever being hidden from the user. Specifically, displaying the trust symbol in the comer or bottom of the web page works well. The trust symbol can include information about the website that may be displayed when the computer user interacts with the trust symbol. Both the trust symbol and the information displayed about the website can be generated dynamically by the third party validator for display on website. However the location of the display of the trust symbol remains under the control of the website operator so as not to interfere with the aesthetics of the site.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems and methods for retrieving web documents. Briefly described, in architecture, one embodiment of the system, among others, includes a web retrieval tool interface configured to display a context menu from any web page that is being viewed. The context menu displays at least one option for retrieving a document at a predetermined network address. The system further includes logic configured to retrieve the document corresponding to a selected option in the context menu. Other systems and methods are also provided.

Abstract: In certain embodiments, a method for synchronizing login processes in a web environment includes receiving user authentication information for a particular one of a plurality of access points, each access point operable to provide a user system that submitted the user authentication information access to one or more target items. The method includes authenticating the user authentication information to determine whether the user system associated with the user authentication information is authorized to access the one or more target items associated with the particular access point. The method includes initiating a successful login to the particular access point if it is determined that the user system associated with the user authentication information is authorized to access the one or more target items and automatically propagating the successful login to the particular access point to one or more of the other access points based at least on the successful login to the particular access point.

This system and method secures the data from its source to when it is actually viewed or used by the authorized user. The PDA may have direct access to an Internet web site portal that offers secure personal content from a content provider, such as, for example, an on-line banking or financial institution. Using the web site portal, the content provider may offer personal or confidential data, such as financial information, to PDA users in a secure (e.g., encrypted) environment.
