Interface Customization Or Adaption (e.g., Client Server) Patents (Class 715/744)
  • Patent number: 8914731
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enhancing the display of data is provided. User interaction data describing the interactions of a plurality of users with a user interface component is stored. The user interaction data is analyzed to identify patterns of prior use of the user interface component. The operation of a three-tier architecture may be configured to enhance performance based on the patterns of prior use. For example, upon determining a certain percentage of users interact with the user interface component in a manner requiring the visual appearance of the user interface component to be updated to depict additional data not previously depicted, the additional data may be cached at an application tier or provided to a client before a user requests the additional data to minimize the delay in retrieving the additional data. The patterns of prior use may also be used to selectively initialize resources at the middle-tier.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes accessing multiple image elements that have an ordered sequence. From the ordered sequence of image elements, multiple clusters of image elements are determined, where each cluster has one or more image elements arranged in a line. The image elements within each cluster are scaled to have substantially the same first dimension while maintaining their original aspect ratios and being arranged to maintain the ordered sequence. Each of the clusters has substantially the same second dimension. A cost for each cluster, based on a cost function, is determined. A graph based on the clusters that maintains the ordered sequence is accessed. The graph includes multiple paths that each represent a layout of the image elements and have a total cost based on the costs of the clusters along the path. The path with a lowest total cost is identified to determine a preferred layout.

  • Patent number: 8910052
Abstract: A user profile for a user of a social networking system may include experiences, such as work, educational, travel, and interests. The social networking system provides a profile page for a user's user profile that allows the user to tag other users as being involved in or otherwise associated with the user's experiences. Once another user is tagged in an experience, a corresponding tag is added to the tagged user's user profile, and that experience is added as well if not already included in the profile. Tagging users in experiences allows a viewer to see connections between experiences of users of the social networking system and promotes more detailed user profiles that contain experiences.

  • Patent number: 8898072
Abstract: In one embodiment, a selection process executing in an optimizing engine is invoked as users are presented with web pages that include ad content. The selection process provides an initial population of sets of characteristics that specify an initial generation of layouts of ads for the pages. The characteristics can include anything that affects an ads appearance on the display. For example, ad type, position within a web page, color, size, text font, animation, etc. can be specified. Statistics are obtained as to each ad or page layout's performance or impact on the user, such as revenue obtained from ads in the layout, how many user's click an ad, how long users view an ad, etc. Once a large enough sample of user impacts is obtained a second population of sets of characteristics is created to improve the overall performance of the initial population.

Abstract: The present application discloses methods, devices and systems for networking communication and information display. Based on a predefined layout provided by a server, service providers may customize the predefined layout by designating/designing actionable options that may be used in the layout to generate user interfaces. Due to the dual sources of the customized interfaces, some of the actionable options in different interfaces are the same and some of the actionable options are different. A user may select an actionable option displayed at a mobile terminal, which may cause the mobile terminal to send a request to the server, receive a response from the server, and display the response. The current invention allows service providers to configure predefined layouts and present the customized interfaces to users, improving communication experiences while maintaining a level of similarity between the interfaces from different service providers.

Abstract: A display system integrates a desktop application user interface into a web-based application. A first computing device includes a first processor and a first display device. A first server supports a web-based application having a first user interface. The first display device presents to a user a first user interface that displays a first item of information. A second server, physically separated from the first server, is coupled to the first server via a web-based connection. A second computing device supports a desktop application that includes a second user interface. After a user has opened the web-based application, the first processor connects to the desktop application via the web-based application. The first processor displays, within a portion of the first user interface, at least a portion of the second user interface, presenting to the user a second item of information that is contextually connected to the first item of information.
