Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to processing and organizing electronic content. In accordance with one implementation, a computer-implemented method is provided that comprises detecting a user interaction with the user interface and determining if the detected user interaction corresponds to (i) a dragging of at least one electronic message to an empty content stack or (ii) a dragging of at least one electronic message to an existing content stack. The method further comprises generating a new content stack on the user interface, if the detected user interaction corresponds to a dragging of at least one electronic message to an empty content stack, and updating the existing content stack on the user interface, if the detected user interaction corresponds to a dragging of at least one electronic message to the existing content stack.

Abstract: A method, system, and device are provided for presenting event views via a calendaring application or the like. In particular, the event view is alterable depending upon whether or not the event currently being viewed is a past event or not. Past events may posses additional attributes not possessed by other events and, therefore, the presentation of a past event and the information related thereto may differ from the presentation of other events.

Abstract: A method is provided for transmitting information from a user to a first network entity over a communications network. The user enters information into a browser executed at a user terminal. The browser generates a first message comprising the information using a first communication protocol for despatch over the network via a network port, the first message including an identifier of the first network entity. A client executed at the user terminal receives the first message before the first message reaches the network port. The first message is wrapped in a second message of a second communication protocol used for transmitting messages between the client and a second network entity. The second message is transmitted to the second network entity over the communications network.

Abstract: The disclosure discloses a method for implementing instant message and E-mail interworking, comprising: corresponding an IM user applying a service of IM and E-mail interworking to at least one E-mail address, either being constructed from an IM address of the IM user or being a pre-allocated E-mail address; determining the E-mail address or IM address of a destination user from a received IM or a received E-mail from a user, converting the IM into a E-mail or the E-mail into an IM, and sending the E-mail or IM to the determined receiving address of the destination user. The disclosure also discloses a system for implementing IM and E-mail interworking. The disclosure realizes a free interworking between IM and E-mail.

More particularly, the invention provides a computerized method for identifying, in a first information store, a first data item satisfying retention criteria; copying the first data item to a second information store; creating, in the first information store, a second data item containing a subset of the data of the first data item selected based on the data type of the first data item; and replacing the first data item, in the first information store, with the second data item.

Abstract: Techniques for the aggregate and hierarchical display of grouped items spanning multiple storage locations are described. Some techniques may aggregate items in response to user input identifying a scope for item retrieval. The user input may identify a scope such as selection of a local storage location or a search query for retrieving items. The aggregated items may span multiple storage locations and include items within the identified scope and related items outside the identified scope. A group of aggregated items are presented in a hierarchical display within a user interface. The hierarchical display may visually differentiate items inside and outside of the identified scope, and may identify parent-child relationship between related items. An aggregate header for the group of aggregated items may be displayed indicating total items in the group and a status for items in the group within the identified scope. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

A simultaneous sharing communication interface provides an immersive experience that lets a user communicate via text, voice, video, sounds, music, or the like, with one or more other users while also simultaneously sharing media such as photos, videos, movies, images, graphics, illustrations, animations, presentations, narratives, music, sounds, applications, files, and the like. The simultaneous sharing interface enables a user to experience a higher level of intimacy in their communication with others over a network.

Abstract: The embodiments described herein generally relate to systems and methods for providing human interaction with a business application from an email client. To complete a business process, individuals often must provide information to a business application. However, it may be difficult for the individual to interact with the application if the user is not familiar with the application's user interface (UI) or if it is necessary to navigate to the application's UI. Accordingly, it may be more efficient to interact with the application using a UI within an email client. User input for an automated business process can be submitted from a general-purpose email client. Benefits from such include providing input to a business application while working within the familiar email interface; not needing to switch contexts to complete work for the application; and completing work for the application while being offline or having limited corporate network connectivity.

The e-mail client may be configured to receive a plurality of addresses specifying recipients of a message; apply a color coding to the plurality of addresses, the color coding indicating an associated color for at least one of the plurality of addresses; and send the message with the applied color coding to the plurality of addresses.

Abstract: An online collaborative story system allows multiple people to collaborate on creating a story by contributing content of various types to a server computer, where it is voted on by the collaborators or a designated editor to create the finished story. Additionally, one or more of the collaborators can be rewarded for their participation in the story.

Abstract: The invention relates to a system and method of handling a plurality of communications between parties. Novel approaches to the presentation, storage and creation of both real-time and “store and forward” interactions are presented. These make it easier for a user of the system to read and understand what is being communicated, by whom and to whom. This extends beyond the presentation of a single message to sets of related messages. By combining recording of real-time interactions with the presentation and handling of inherently “store and forward” mechanisms, users find it easier to mix and match communication methods optimally for the task at hand.

The method includes: receiving a trigger for an operation of a topic; acquiring a preset default topic; displaying the preset default topic in an input box of a microblog; receiving content to be posted; receiving a trigger for an operation of a post; determining whether a topic currently displayed in the input box of the microblog is the preset default topic; and posting the content to be posted with the preset default topic if the topic currently displayed in the input box of the microblog is determined as the preset default topic. The method is capable of increasing the user's participation in discussing the topic.

Abstract: An improved networked computer communications system handles arbitrary streams of data, and transports at varying speeds those steams where intermediate updates can be dropped if they are obsoleted by later arriving data updates, optimizing the utilization of network and node resources. One conferencing system allows conference participants to share all or a portion of the display seen on their computer screens. The conferees may be at sites removed from each other, or may view a recorded presentation or archived conference at different times. A pointer icon, which can be labeled to identify the conferee, is displayed on the shared image area. Each conferee can modify the position of his pointer, even when not presenting, so that every participant can see what each conferee is pointing to. These and other features apply to other data streams shared in the conference or in meetings where there is no shared-image data stream.

Abstract: A visual communications (VC) tool enables visual communication over a data communications network. An email is sent to a recipient containing a link to a first visual arrangement generated by a sender. The first visual arrangement may include images of various products. The first visual arrangement is displayed via a web browser in a first display area of the VC tool in response to actuation of the link in the email message. The recipient then selects a first image in the first display area. The selection may include dragging and dropping the first image into a second display area of the VC tool. The selection triggers the generating of a second visual arrangement which includes a copy of the first image. The copy of the first image is displayed in a second display area concurrently with the display of the first image in the first display area.

Abstract: A system, method, service, user interface, and computer readable medium to integrate email and task management is disclosed. Users are provided with options to convert an email into a task, including one-click command options. Efficient triaging of incoming emails is supported. Integration with different email systems and third party services is also supported. Additionally, context aware operation supports features such as adapting operation for efficient use of mobile device in combination with desktop computers.

Abstract: Instant messaging applications of all forms, ranging from standard short-message-service (SMS) text messaging to basic multimedia messaging incorporating sounds and images, to myriad “chat” applications, have become a staple form of communication for millions or billions of phone, computer and mobile device users. The following invention is composed of a set of claims that comprise a novel method and system for an enhanced, more expressive system of messaging that combines text and multimedia (audio, images and video) with a gesture-driven, animated interface especially suited for the newest generation of touch-sensitive mobile device screens. An additional set of claims extends the gesture-driven interface to include “hands-free” spatial-gesture-recognizing-devices which can read and interpret physical hand and body gestures made in the environment adjacent to the device without actual physical contact, as well as adaptations for less-advanced traditional computers with keyboard and mouse.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for generating one or more menus having options that display insights from visualizations. The options presented in the menus enable users to determine relationships between elements of the visualization. The relationships may be displayed textually to enable user to navigate the menus using a keyboard, a text-to-voice converter, and/or pointers.

Abstract: Techniques described herein allow for suggesting creation of distribution lists and suggesting use of distribution lists once they have been created. For instance, these techniques may track a frequency with which contacts (e.g., email addresses, phone numbers, screen names, etc.) are used with one another. The techniques may then suggest that a user create a distribution list that includes those contacts. Furthermore, once a contact has been associated with a particular distribution list, these techniques may suggest that a user send a message to this distribution list in response to the user selecting the contact (rather than the list) as a destination of the message.

When a user selects the combined message box for display, all messages from the selectively linked message accounts are displayed. In one embodiment, a user can create multiple combined message boxes on a single device, and may assign names to each of the combined message boxes. A visual representation of the messages includes a focal user representation (textual or graphic) and multiple contact representations (textual or graphic). The contact representations are displayed at respective relevance distances from the focal user representation. Text regions present the contents of messages from the source contacts, e.g., using graphic novel-style word balloons. The contact representations can be positioned on screen in maps, radar format, or other configurations. Users can filter contacts according to relevance, and can filter messages by pertinence.

Abstract: A system for the real-time displaying of images includes a web server accessed by a plurality of users via a global communication network. The web server has an IP address associated with a domain and the server includes an email address generator providing a unique email address to which a user may send digital images and a mail server receiving email messages. The mail server includes a “catch-all” email account receiving all email for the IP address that does not match an existing email account of the domain and a time based job scheduler initiating checks for any new emails within the “catch-all” email account. The system identifies emails addressed to the unique email address and determines if the email has any valid digital image file attached thereto and then downloads any valid digital image files from the mail server to the web server for viewing by the user on the webpage in real time.

The sorted sender list includes (i) a first sender identifier identifying a first sender of a first message in the two or more messages, and (ii) a second sender identifier identifying a second sender of a second message in the two or more messages. The first sender list identifier and the second identifier are sorted.

Abstract: An enhancement to e-mail user interfaces and message formats includes a dynamic preview window to view and retrieve attachments and summaries of e-mail messages directly in the e-mail list view or inbox view without opening an e-mail message. The efficient viewing mechanism further allows previews without cluttering the listing of the e-mails in the inbox by allowing the client to detect special preview instructions within an e-mail and run executables within the preview window. The enhancement is applicable to standalone e-mail clients (POP or IMAP based) and to web-based e-mail systems.

Abstract: A system for displaying images associated with a received electronic message concurrently displays the received electronic message, a view-all-images icon and a respective view icon for each image of a plurality of images attached to the received electronic message as a plurality of distinct attachments. In response to a single user selection of the view-all-images icon, where the user selection of the view-all-images icon is made while the received electronic message and the view-all-images icon are concurrently displayed, the system fetches from a document storage system a single document containing the plurality of images and display the plurality of images contained in the document. In response to user selection of the view icon for a respective image attached to the received electronic message, the system displays the respective image.

A task item includes one or more details about its corresponding task, such as a description of the task and a location of the task. Specifically, techniques for generating task items, organizing task items, triggering notifications of task items, and consuming task items are described. In one approach, a task item is generated based on input from a user and context of the input. In another approach, different attributes of task items are used to organize the task items intelligently into multiple lists. In another approach, actions other than the generation of notification are enabled or automatically performed, actions such as entailing, calling, texting, and searching.

Abstract: Publishing content associated with an electronic file attached to an electronic message by executing instructions contained in the electronic attachment and accessing the content at a remote computer server identified by the attached file. The attached file includes computer-executable instructions, such as a computer program or script, which include an identifier for a remote server connected to a distributed computer network. This identified remote server typically hosts a web site containing content for viewing by the recipient of the electronic message. In response to launching the attached file of the electronic message with a viewer program, a browser program can be opened to enable the recipient to view the content of the identified remote server, typically a web site on an intranet or the global Internet.

Abstract: A system that responds to a user setting a follow-up flag on a message within a first communication application by associating the flagged message with another user, such that the flagged message is available to a second communication application. When a user sets a flag on an electronic mail message contained in an electronic mail mailbox provided by an electronic mail application, the system responds by associating the flagged message with another user in a list of other users with whom flagged messages are associated. When a communication session occurs with the other user through another communication application, the system checks the list and determines that a flagged message is associated with the other user. The flagged message is then brought to the attention of the local user, for example within a list of flagged messages associated with the other user displayed simultaneously with the instant messaging session.

Abstract: An electronic mail management system is operable to receive electronic mail message components from a user. Prior to sending of the email message, a plurality of predetermined categories for classifying the electronic message are presented to the user. The email system receives a user selection from the predetermined categories. A determination is made as to whether or not the email recipient is a member of a predetermined class of recipients. The electronic mail is then sent to the recipient. The user selection is embedded within the email message if the recipient is a member of the predetermined class of recipients. Finally, the email is stored in a manner dependent upon the user selection. Similarly, the email management server may also be operable to categorize received email messages. Further, email messages may be selected or programmed to automatically be deleted upon certain events.

Abstract: A device and method for scheduling follow-up events in relation to an existing event record. The device receives an input follow-up request associated with the existing event record and automatically generates a follow-up event record having information in its field populated using the information contained in the existing event record. The date of the follow-up event is automatically generated based upon the date of the existing event record. If the existing event record is a recurring event, then the date of the follow-up event is based on the frequency of recurrence. The follow-up event record may be displayed for user editing and may be transmitted to the attendees to propose scheduling of the follow-up event.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for composing a package of application files to be sent as e-mail attachments in e-mail communications. A plurality of data structures are created, wherein each data structure groups together a plurality of different user application files designated as attachments to an e-mail communication. Application files designated from within user applications are associated with selected data structures, such that each designated application file is associated with a selected data structure. During composition of an e-mail communication having attachments, a list of the data structures containing application files are provided.

Abstract: A device and method provide a user with a template for a message having fields that can be pre-filled with data to reduce the manual entry of data into the message. The method includes, but is not limited to, executing an application at a device, wherein context data including context data items is associated with the executing application, selecting a messaging technology to send a message from the device, selecting a template for the message, wherein the template comprises one or more dynamic fields, selecting a context data item from the context data associated with the executing application, and inserting the selected context data item in the dynamic field to facilitate the creation of a message.
