Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods are disclosed which provide user interfaces for enhanced web browsing. The systems and methods monitor a user's web browsing activity, determine times at which the user is likely to desire web browsing assistance, and provide additional content deemed relevant to the user's web browsing activities. In one embodiment, the system detects that a user is requesting search results from a third party search engine. The system determines content to provide alongside the search results the user receives, and displays that content to the user. The content preferably is hyperlinks to some of the most popular websites on the internet. In another embodiment, the system detects that a user is browsing to a very popular website. The system determines popular websites that are related to the website the user is viewing and presents those websites to the user.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for virtualizing access to windows includes a hooking mechanism, a window name virtualization engine, and an operating system interface. A request relating to a window from a process executing in the context of a user account is received, the request including a virtual window name. A determination is made for a literal name for the window, using a scope-specific identifier. A request is issued to the operating system including the determined literal window name. A window handle is associated with the determined virtual window name.

Abstract: A method for managing windows in a display is disclosed. The method comprises forming clippings for windows located in a focal region of a display; displaying the clippings in a peripheral region of the display; hiding the windows in the focal region of the display; indicating the states of the clippings; and in response to a user action, displaying the windows and hiding the clippings. A clipping comprises an image of a region of a window and an icon. A clipping is formed when a window is dragged from the focal region into the peripheral region or when the minimize button of a window is clicked. A clipping list is formed when a clipping is moved near another clipping. A clipping moved near a clipping list is inserted into the clipping list.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to automatically creating localized menus for interactive media such as, for example, DVD-Video menus, via a menu component comprising references to an instance of menu background data, a menu text template defining text positions and sets of menu texts in different texts. The menu is then derived by processing the menu component. This enables localized menus to be produced more cost-effectively and more quickly than in non-automated prior art methods.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for scrollable cross point navigation on a user interface in order to select a feature by combining object fields. Bars where at least one of them is scrollable, have object fields which overlap and combine each other when scrolled or put to a visible focus area in the user interface at the cross point of the bars. Object fields in the focus area select a feature connected to a combination of fields, which is chosen by a confirmation action.

If a single event is pending, the method can include instructing the application to write data corresponding to the received event to a primary display of the communication device (435). The display manager can write data corresponding to the received event to a secondary display (445). If multiple events are pending, the method can include preventing the application from writing data to the primary display (470). Abstract: Methods and systems for providing graphical user interfaces are described. To provide greater access and consolidation to frequently used items in the graphical user interface, a userbar is established which includes a plurality of item representations. To permit a greater number of items to reside in the userbar, a magnification function can be provided which magnifies items within the userbar when they are proximate the cursor associated with the graphical user interface.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to a computer-implemented method for graphically displaying or presenting a fisheye-based view of a large data list on the limited content viewing area of a mobile device. At least a subset of data rows within the data list and graphical representations of a plurality of data fields of at least the subset of data rows are generated and graphically displayed using a graphical user interface of the mobile device. When a user selects a focus row from the displayed data rows, a fisheye-based view of the selected focus row is presented. The fisheye-based view and the graphical representations of the data fields provide the user with a focus-plus-context view of a large data list. Further, the graphical representations provide the user with meaningful information even when particular data items are too small to read specific values.

Abstract: A method for managing and displaying related information in a graphical user interface includes storing each of a plurality of related datasets in a discrete file. A compound file is stored linking the discrete data files to each other. A common window for the combined file is displayed in the graphical user interface. A discrete window for each discrete file is displayed within the common window.

Abstract: This invention allows the user to select files to be printed from arbitrary folders, easily designate a folder selected in the past, and confirm data files in the folder, thereby improving the operability of selecting a file to be printed. For this purpose, the display window has a folder view display area for displaying the tree structure of folders, and a file view display area for displaying a list of image data files stored in a folder selected in the folder view display area. When a new folder is selected in the folder view display area, a path representing the location position of the folder is added to the folder list. When a file having a print count of “1” or more exists in the file view display area, the file name and print count of the file are added to a file list associated with a folder list. Abstract: The present invention discloses a virtual vehicle interface system for use in a motor vehicle. The system can include a screen having a screen region and an image module that is operable to display an image of a portion of the motor vehicle on the screen region. The image can display a feature of the motor vehicle and an information tag can also be displayed and be proximate to the feature. The screen and the image module are operable to rotate the image of the motor vehicle and display different views of the motor vehicle using a remote control device or by pressing an object such as an individual's finger onto and moving it across the screen. In addition, a change of a setting and/or state of the motor vehicle can be altered by activating the information tag.

Abstract: A computer system and method are presented that enhance a user experience when viewing images displayed on the computer. The system includes a user interface for the computer that displays a number of thumbnail images that are small representations of image files existing on the computer. The thumbnail images are arranged in alignment with one another, such as at the bottom of a viewing window. An enlarged preview image is positioned adjacent the thumbnail images. The enlarged preview image corresponds to a selected thumbnail image and is a larger representation of an image file corresponding with the selected thumbnail image. A control is displayed in the window that enables the user to iterate through the thumbnail images in at least one direction. As the user iterates through the thumbnail images, the enlarged preview image changes correspondingly.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for variable help content and abandonment intervention based on customer behavior in computer applications. A pattern detection and intervention mechanism may be provided that may collect usage and possibly other data for the application for a plurality of users of the application and analyze the usage data to determine usage patterns. The collected data and determined usage patterns may then be used by the pattern detection and intervention mechanism to look for and detect deviations from expected behavior and/or patterns of abnormal behavior. Embodiments may provide one or more methods of intervention to provide context-specific help or otherwise assist users for which deviations from expected behavior and/or abnormal patterns of behavior are detected. The detection that users are having difficulty with the application and proactive intervention when such difficulties are detected may help to prevent the users from abandoning the application.

Abstract: The present invention is directed towards systems and methods for providing dynamic search results based upon historical data through the use of one or more widgets. The method of the present invention comprises receiving a request for content from a client and generating one or more widgets for providing search result content. A display profile is applied to the one or more widgets and the one or more widgets are combined with static search results to form a search result page that is provided to a requesting client.

Abstract: One implementation provides a method for accessing a window previously viewed by a user in a graphical user interface (GUI) during an interaction with an individual. The method includes displaying to the user a first window in the GUI. The first window contains a collapsible/expandable menu. The menu contains an entry that refers to a window previously viewed by the user. Upon selection of the entry in the menu, the method further includes displaying to the user the corresponding window previously viewed by the user in the GUI. The corresponding window has a data-entry field that contains a latest version of information that is related to the interaction with the individual that was previously entered or modified by the user.

Abstract: Methods and systems for generating search results for output to a user. A number of “views” of search results may be provided each having particular formats. In a product search engine implementation, a grid view may be provided that allows multi-column display of product-related search results. In other implementations, a user may be able to select between multiple output modes/formats, and may even be able to select how search results should be output (e.g., what type and format of cues should be output for each search result).

Abstract: A method and apparatus for displaying information of multiple applications simultaneously on the execution screen of a common application is provided. A method for providing information in mobile terminal includes displaying an execution screen having a plurality of information display regions with execution of a common application, detecting an interaction made to one of the information display regions, executing an application related to information presented in the information display region at which the interaction is detected, and displaying original data corresponding to the information presented in the information display region at which the interaction is detected.

Abstract: The present invention includes systems for and methods of visually integrating application windows in a virtual machine environment. Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a system for and method of visually integrating application windows of host and guest operating system in a virtual machine environment in order to reduce difficulties that the users of computers experience in navigating between applications in a virtual machine environment. The present invention accomplishes this by using a composite window list in the virtual machine monitor (VMM) to manage the configuration, the focus, the geometry, the Z-order of the windows across guest and host operating systems, and the arrangement of doppelgangers (virtual application windows, in this case) in a way that allows host and guest application windows to appear integrated in a single display window.

Abstract: A widget is incorporated into a user interface associated with a processing system to provide the user with a display of the entered data, together with any added text or other data modifications that result from application of a default format. The display thus enables the user to determine whether or not the default format can be used with the entered data, before the data is processed. The widget also provides a toggle capability, to allow the user to override the default behavior of the processing system and select a different valid format for use with the entered data, from a format priority list contained in the widget. Abstract: A system and method for reversing a windows close action is provided. The system retains data corresponding to a window after the window is closed for some period of time. The parameters by which the closed window data is retained is user-configurable. When a window is closed, data corresponding to the closed window is not reclaimed by the operating system. Instead, the operating system notes that the window is no longer being managed by the operating system so that no new messages, or signals, are sent to or from the closed window. In addition, the visual aspects of the closed window are removed from the user's display so that, from the user's perspective, the closed window appears to have been closed as in a traditional GUI operating system. The system further reclaims memory from inactive windows according to user-configurable parameters.

Critical points may be defined throughout the applications and the user interaction histories at these critical points may be stored and indexed for future retrieval. In some embodiments, when providing user support, an entity may access the user interaction history (e.g., using the index). The user interaction history may assist the entity in determining how to assist the system user at their current point in the application. In some embodiments, user support may be not limited to assisting the system user with a problem. For example, user support may include presenting a promotion or advertisement to the system user based on the user interaction history.

Abstract: Tabs or other display elements that do not comply with traditional “window” requirements can be individually presented to a user when the window containing such tabs or other display elements is hidden or obscured.
