An example instructions cause one or more processors to at least determine that an application is operating in a background mode at a first identified time; and in response to identifying that the application is operating in the background mode at the first identified time, credit first media output by the application as background media during the first identified time; determine, that the application is operating in a foreground mode at a second identified time; and in response to identifying that the application is operating in the foreground mode at the second identified time, credit second media output by the application as foreground media during the second identified time.

Abstract: A first electronic device of the present invention comprises at least one communication circuitry, at least one display, at least one memory configured to store instructions, and at least one processor operatively coupled with the at least one communication circuitry and the at least one display. Abstract: Independent refresh rates may be enabled for multiple monitors. Any displays that are presenting content in a full screen mode are refreshed at a rate set by the application presenting the content. All other devices are refreshed at a rate that is determined by a window manager based on various factors including the type of application(s) executing, the size of the applications presenting content, the location of the applications presenting content, hardware configurations, and so forth.

Abstract: Methods and systems for managing a graphical user interface involve, for example, defining, using a processor coupled to memory, a threshold distance between windows on a display screen at which a mutual attraction between the windows is activated to draw the windows together as components of a picture of windows. Also using the processor, all windows of a same functional type that are components of the picture of windows are resized simultaneously without affecting the size of windows of other functional types that are also components of the picture of windows. Likewise using the processor, all windows on the display screen are maintained in an active state regardless of a focus of a user input device.

Abstract: As part of a document summary view system, a miniaturized version of a document is provided that presents a summary overview of the document over a user interface, enabling a user to easily read and distinguish the contents of the document. The summary view may preserve a basic format and/or layout of a document and may retain the core elements within the document including headings, bulleted lists, tables, images, and/or the first sentence of each paragraph, and obscure any remaining text and elements.

Abstract: A method for displaying a plurality of windows includes dividing a display screen into first and second display areas. The plurality of windows may be rearranged in the first and second display areas and new windows may be displayed in the first and second display areas based on prior windows displayed.

Abstract: An information processing device according to the present invention stores user attribute data and pieces of application attribute data. The information processing device retrieves the user attribute data (Sa1), retrieves application attribute data of running application programs (Sa3), and determine whether there is application attribute data matching the user attribute data (Sa5). If the determination is affirmative, the information processing device identifies an application program corresponding to the application attribute data, and subsequently identifies a window (subject window) corresponding to the identified application program (Sa6). The information processing device sets priority levels for the subject window and windows overlapping the subject window so that the priority level for the subject window is higher than those of the windows (Sa8), and changes a display order of the subject window and the windows in accordance with the priority levels for the subject window and the windows (Sa9).

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to task bar management and provide a method, system and computer program product for graphical association of task bar entries. In one embodiment of the invention, a method for graphically associating a window with a task bar entry in a windowing operating system GUI can be provided. The method can include rendering multiple windows in a z-space sequence in a desktop of the windowing operating system graphical user interface and detecting a proximity event for an entry in a task bar for the windowing operating system graphical user interface. In response to detecting the proximity event, a corresponding one of the windows in the desktop can be highlighted without re-ordering the z-space sequence.

Abstract: A web browser magnifies the content of the whole page in memory and displays the relevant portion in a magnifier with hyperlinks. The web browser then maps the magnified display to the original document. Thus, manipulation of the mouse in the magnified display may result in an action with respect to the original document. The user may then select a link for navigation within the magnified display. Alternatively, the web browser may analyze the original web page and construct magnifier contents on the basis of either the document object model, extensible markup language (XML), or hypertext markup language (HTML) representation of the magnified portion.

The auxiliary window manager may detect an attempt to display the mouse-enabled window, and, in response, may automatically display a second remote-enabled window in front of the first remote-enabled window. The control method includes displaying multiple windows for executing the multiple applications on the touch screen based on a display level of each of the windows, receiving a top-level display command for one of the multiple windows, fixing, as a top level, a display level of a top-level display window for which the top-level display command is received, and displaying the top-level display window in a level higher than the other windows.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus enable a mobile device to suggest available applications or features in which a user may be interested to the user based upon the user's past and current mobile device usage patterns. The mobile device may monitor the specific application/features used and their frequency of use. The mobile device may determine other available applications/features that the user may be interested in using based upon the frequency of use of applications or features and information which indicates a likelihood of user interest in one application or feature based upon usage of another application or feature. Applications or features determined to be potentially of interest to the user may be presented to the user in the form of suggestions to be added to the user interface menu so that the user can elect to accept or rejection the suggestion to modify the menu.

Abstract: Methods and systems enable mobile TV providers to select programs for broadcast based on viewer preference indications or votes. Information regarding candidate programs or content may be broadcast and displayed on mobile devices. A voting user interface may receive viewer preferences or votes and transmit vote information to the mobile TV broadcast network using a unicast network. Received voting information may be tallied to select a program or content for broadcast. Interim vote tallies may be broadcast to mobile devices until a voting session is terminated. Results of the voting session may be broadcasted followed by broadcast of the selected program.

Abstract: A system and method for arranging windows on a screen. The user interface program, called the Graphical User Interface (GUI), provides a user friendly system and method of viewing and/or interacting with computer application programs. The GUI prepares and presents a visual display. The arranging of active and inactive windows on the screen is configured according to prescribed formulas. The GUI also provides the user with a two or three dimensional spatial orientation of the data.

Abstract: Systems and methods for bringing a window into focus are provided. In some aspects, a method includes providing for display of a first window and a second window in a user interface. The first window is in focus. The second window is not in focus. The method includes receiving a user input for bringing the second window into focus. The method includes brightening at least a dimmed portion of the second window in response to the user input for bringing the second window into focus. The method includes gradually dimming at least a visible portion of the first window in response to the user input for bringing the second window into focus. The method includes pausing the dimming, after expiration of a time period, of the at least the visible portion of the first window.

Abstract: A computer-human interface provides a mechanism to manage the available space of a computer display in a manner that facilitates navigation among multiple windows that are overlaid upon one another. The interface includes a user-selectable mode in which the windows are rearranged, and resized if necessary, so that all open windows can be simultaneously viewed within the area of the display, thereby enabling any one of the windows to be easily selected for access. In effect, the presentation of the windows is “flattened” so that all windows appear at the same virtual depth, rather than overlapping one another. With this approach, there is no need to minimize windows in order to access one that is overlaid by another, thereby enabling the user to keep the content of all windows visible and accessible. Subsets of windows can be repositioned in the same manner, or all windows can be removed from the display area for access to desktop objects.

Abstract: A computer system and method inhibit interruption of a user that is actively using the computer system. A user is actively using the computer system if the user has provided defined input within a time period specified in a “do not disturb” specification. For example, if the time period in the “do not disturb” specification is set to ten seconds, a user will not be interrupted by a potential interrupting event if the user has, for example, pressed a keyboard key or clicked a mouse key within ten seconds of the potential interrupting event. In this manner a user that is actively using a computer system will not be interrupted by potential interrupting events. In a first embodiment, the do not disturb mechanism is defined globally in the operating system. In a second embodiment, each software application may include a “do not disturb” specification.

Abstract: A computer tool allows a user to manipulate displayed content of a web page by a user device. The computer tool may be used to implement a collapsing, foldable browser that allows users to customize web content. The computer tool receives an indication of a user defined first portion of the content of a web page displayed by a browser, determines a remaining portion of the content of the web other than the first portion; and renders only the first user defined portion on a display screen of a display associated with the user device. An attribute may be associated with the first portion and displayed in proximity to the first portion to provide functions to manipulate the first portion within the display screen of the display associated with the user device. A menu may be associated with the attribute.

Abstract: A method referred to as visual window browsing allows a user to browse through windows on their desktop. Aspects of the invention include responsive to a command, moving open windows to form a visual stack with the topmost window in the stack being in focus. Responsive to a browse the windows in the visual stack can be browsed, where the topmost window moves to the bottom of the visual stack and the other windows move higher in the stack, with the second highest window becoming the topmost window and being in focus. Successive browse commands causes this behavior to repeat allowing a user to cycle through each of the open windows.

Abstract: Systems, methods, computer-readable media, and graphical user interfaces for facilitating advertisement placement over video content are provided. Images within a video are partitioned into image regions. Upon partitioning images into image regions, an intrusiveness score is determined for each image region. Based on the intrusiveness scores, optimal placement of an advertisement within the video is determined.

Abstract: A minimized view of an application is provided, in one embodiment, from an application or window control region. The minimized view of a first application can include controls (e.g., commands such as a play button or command and a pause button or command) that are available when a first window of the first application is the front most window. The minimized view can be invoked and receive and respond to user inputs on the controls even when a second application's window is the front most window.

Abstract: A method and computer-storage media for minimizing application windows based on a triggering event are provided. Embodiments of the present invention include determining that a triggering event has occurred with respect to a target window, automatically minimizing all of the minimizable application windows except the target application window, and generating an undo record that may be used to restore the minimized windows upon the determination that a second triggering event has occurred with respect to the target window. In one embodiment, the triggering event is shaking the target application window.

Abstract: Various embodiments of a system and method for providing protection against malicious software programs are disclosed. The system and method may be operable to detect that a first window of a legitimate software program has been replaced by a second window of a malicious software program, e.g., where the second window includes features to mimic the first window in an effort to fool the user into inputting sensitive information into the second window. The method may operate to alert the user when the window replacement is detected.

Abstract: A web browser magnifies the content of the whole page in memory and displays the relevant portion in a magnifier with hyperlinks. The web browser then maps the magnified display to the original document. Thus, manipulation of the mouse in the magnified display may result in an action with respect to the original document. The user may then select a link for navigation within the magnified display. Alternatively, the web browser may analyze the original web page and construct magnifier contents on the basis of either the document object model, extensible markup language (XML), or hypertext markup language (HTML) representation of the magnified portion.

Abstract: A method of visually presenting a message includes detecting that a screen reader application is being used in a computer system having a graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI presents messages of a first type by displaying a popup window and presents messages of a second type in a predefined field of the GUI. The screen reader application is configured to detect display of the popup window but not configured to detect presentation of the messages of the second type in the predefined field. The method includes detecting a system event that causes a first message to be presented in the predefined field, the system event resulting from evaluating user input information. The method includes presenting, in response to detecting the system event, a second message in the popup window, the second message being associated with the first message. The predefined field may relate to a message log.

Abstract: A processing system may include a display device, a primary window manager, and an auxiliary window manager. The primary window manager may display a first remote-enabled window in the display device. The processing system may also include a program to generate a mouse-enabled window, and the primary window manager may prevent the mouse-enabled window from displaying in front of the first remote-enabled window. The auxiliary window manager may detect an attempt to display the mouse-enabled window, and, in response, may automatically display a second remote-enabled window in front of the first remote-enabled window. The second remote-enabled window may include an object that a user can select with a remote control to instruct the processing system to display the mouse-enabled window. Abstract: A method for displaying a plug-in frame in a web browser, a computer readable medium, and a computer program product for executing the same are disclosed. The method includes the steps of: constructing each webpage element when a webpage of the web browser is opened or content of a webpage is altered; determining whether each webpage element is a plug-in frame; if yes, obtaining related data of each plug-in frame; arranging each required webpage element from bottom to top to generate a display list; calculating an intersection of each plug-in frame and each webpage element according to the display list; obtaining a new window mask of each plug-in frame according to the related data and the intersection; and displaying each webpage element located above each plug-in frame in the web browser according to the new window mask.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses to manipulate a window during a drag-and-drop operation. In one aspect of the invention, a method to manipulate a window includes: receiving input of dragging an item to a first window in a first state in which the first window is not completely accessible on a first screen; and bringing the first window from the first state to a second state in which the first window is more accessible or completely accessible on the first screen before the item is dropped. In one example according to this aspect, the first window is brought to the second state in response to a first determination that the first window contains a target location for the item. The first determination is in response to a predetermined input which is one of: a) a determination that the item has hovered around a location in the first window for a predetermined amount of time; and b) an input of pressing a key while the item is being dragged in the first window.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture of the invention provide for collapsing a dialog window of an application. A complete dialog window of a currently active application is displayed on a display device. A location of a cursor with respect to the dialog window is determined. A collapsed version of the dialog window is displayed when the cursor moves outside of the complete dialog window, wherein the collapsed version of the dialog window consumes a smaller area of the display device than the complete dialog window. A complete version of the dialog window is displayed when the cursor moves within the collapsed version of the dialog window.

Abstract: The information processing apparatus which performs multi-window display control includes a window change unit 102 to search among windows displayed on the screen for a window which at least partially overlaps an area identified based on a designated position and to change the display of the found window so that the found window will be sequentially displayed in the foreground on the screen.

Abstract: Groups of photo thumbnails are presented to the user, and where a user selects one of the thumbnails, a transition is provided replacing the group of thumbnails with the photo represented by the selected thumbnail. The photo may be displayed without cropping or stretching. In addition, a zoom/enlargement animation of the selected thumbnail is provided, and also possibly of the remaining thumbnails in the group, which then transitions into the represented photo. In addition, after or during the zooming animation, a cross-fading may occur such that the thumbnails fade out and the represented photo fades in. These types of transitions and user inputs both while the user is manually browsing thumbnails and when the user is viewing an automated slideshow of the thumbnails.

Abstract: Displaying the relative depth of 2D image objects while preserving the visual attributes of the objects is disclosed. After an object group is determined, the members of the object group are temporarily moved away from a center location while preserving the object group members' positions relative to each other in the X-Y plane. A depth well is displayed at the center location and each object group member is connected to a ring-beam in the depth well. In response to a control action indicating a relative depth adjustment of an object group member relative to the remaining object group members, the depth of the object relative to the remaining object group members is changed. In response to a control action indicating the depth adjustment is complete, object group members are returned to their original positions in the X-Y plane with the adjusted object displayed at the object's new relative depth.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus is disclosed. The image forming apparatus includes a displaying unit which displays a predetermined number of menu items in plural menu items on a screen, an inputting unit which selects a menu item from the menu items displayed on the screen by the displaying unit, and a storing unit which registers the menu item selected by the input unit in a user custom menu table for each user having registration regions where a predetermined number of menu items are stored.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for determining the status of an application and altering the corresponding application window if necessary in order to convey information to the user and improve the user experience. The system and method of the invention allow visual treatment to be applied to a last active state of an application. The system and method further detect hidden dialogs that are shown in response to an application closing or exit request. The system and method additionally trap applications that respond to messages but ignore close commands and detect applications that do not provide visual feedback in response to user requests to close. Through these functions, a user is able to more readily distinguish between a non-responsive application and an improperly functioning application window.
