Abstract: In one embodiment, a graphical user interface (“GUI”) enables the efficient composition and execution of a test of a message-based application, Web application, or SOA systems' capacity to receive, process and respond to message traffic. The GUI may be used to generate a test composition by dragging and dropping message clips onto one or more tracks. Each clip includes one or more message, with each track being organized into one or more bands. Each track and each band may run contemporaneously to send messages to a target device or application. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure.

Abstract: A system, apparatus and method for using, identifying, interacting and managing digital information in a useful and convenient manner. When a digital representation of information is loaded, an index is constructed of unique terms in the information, which index includes the terms, a count of the occurrences of each term in the information and a reference to each location wherein the term occurs in the information. A user can select a term of interest from the index and a context box comprising a user-selected amount of information from before and/or after each occurrence of the selected term is displayed to the user to allow the user to more readily identify portions of the information which are of interest. The user can select one a context box of interest and the display of the information is repositioned to the location in the information which corresponds to the select box.

Abstract: A system and method is provided to map alternative short captions that are displayed in a constrained display environment instead of displaying standard captions. When designing a display panel, the designer identifies shorter captions to use in a constrained environment. Shorter captions are helpful in preventing text from wrapping or having to horizontally scroll to in order to read a longer caption. Varying levels of short captions are provided so that a standard size display displays the full caption, a somewhat smaller size display displays smaller captions, while an even smaller display displays even smaller captions. National language support is also provide to translate both full captions as well as the short version(s) of the captions.

Abstract: A method for browser software with a tabbed interface to suppress, or delay, the display of a dialog box that is initiated by an inactive, or background, tab. An indication may be provided to the user that a dialog box needing user attention may be provided. When that tab becomes active, and the web page on that tab becomes visible, the dialog box is then displayed. This suppression method may be applied to a variety of application programs.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a system for executing a dialog using one or more Extensible Markup Language (XML) components and one or more embedded scripts includes an XML engine that parses an XML component describing a dialog. The XML component includes elements describing visual aspects of user interfaces (UIs) of the dialog and scripts describing functional aspects of the dialog. The system includes a graphical user interface (GUI) framework operable to access elements parsed from the XML component by the XML engine and generate the UIs of the dialog from the elements parsed from the XML component. The system includes a script engine including an interpreter that executes the scripts in the XML component in response to particular events to provide the functional aspects of the dialog and a runtime library including particular functions callable from the scripts in the XML component that provide particular functional aspects of the dialog when called.

Abstract: A system and method for creating conversation in a computer program such as a videogame. A plurality of classes of dialog is provided and a conversation segment is assigned to each class. A graphical interface is displayed during operation of the program that provides a choice indicator, wherein the choice indicator has a plurality of selectable slots, each associated with a dialog class. The graphical interface is consistent as to the position of dialog classes throughout at least a segment of the program.

Abstract: A process control system that automatically monitors processes and performs activities based on conditions detected during monitoring. The information needed to do the monitoring and perform activities is contained in tables in a database system. The process control system may be configured by configuring entries in the tables. An administrative query table has records that define administrative queries. Each administrative query has associated with it a query to be executed on a table of process records that indicate statuses of the processes being monitored, a scope that defines a subset of the process records upon which the query is to be executed, a schedule from which a time of next execution of the administrative query can be computed, and an activity. The activity is a set of one or more actions.

Abstract: Data items contained in personal information are displayed in manner that is indicative of both the importance and the urgency of the data items. A first visual cue is assigned to the data item based on an importance of the data item. The first visual cue may cause more important items to be displayed with increased size and less important items to be displayed with decreased size. A second visual cue is assigned to the data item based on an urgency of the data item. The second visual cue may cause more urgent items to be displayed in a first color and less important items to be displayed in a second color. The data item is displayed using the first and second visual cue as to provide a visual indication as to both the importance and urgency of the data item.

Abstract: An approach for using multiple menus with a graphical user interface is disclosed. A multiple menu comprises a menu panel with two or more selection regions, each of which is associated with a base menu. A user requests the menu panel without selecting a menu object displayed on a display unit, such as by right-clicking. The menu panel is displayed along with one base menu, and other base menus are displayed by the user moving the cursor to another selection region. The user selects a menu item from a base menu to cause the application to execute the function associated with the menu item. The selection regions of the menu panel do not include information describing the content of the associated base menus. By arranging the base menus around the menu panel, cursor movement is minimized to improve user efficiency in using the application.

Abstract: In a method form, the invention includes generating a first snooze button associated with a user interface for displaying e-mail messages, wherein the e-mail messages have been sent to the user. A dialog box is generated responsive to user activation of an instance of the first snooze button associated with a displayed one of the e-mail messages. The dialog box displays at least one time field for specifying a time and a second snooze button. The e-mail message is moved from the user inbox to a snooze folder responsive to user activation of the second snooze button. The e-mail message is re-sent from the snooze folder back to the user inbox responsive occurrence of a time specified in the a least one time field.

Abstract: A method and system is provided for dynamically resizing dialogs of a computer software application while the application is running. Dialog windows may be resized by user action, such as by hooking on to one side or to a corner of the dialog window and dragging the side or corner in or out to expand or contract the dialog window. In response to the user's action, the operating system of the user's computer notifies a dialog window manager that the dialog window is being resized. An autolayout module lays out the dialog window to its new size, placing all controls contained therein in their proper locations and with their proper dimensions according to the rules associated with the dialog window.

Abstract: An EUI for presenting contents to a user, is constituted with at least a first display container cell, a second display container cell nested within the first display container cell, and a display action cell nested in either the first or the second display container cell. In one embodiment, each display container/action cell is defined by a plurality of cell attributes. The container cell attributes of each container cell include attributes defining a kernel, a maximum state, a centroid, a relocatability, and a resizing priority. The container cell attributes may also include attributes defining the maximum number, placement and alignment of descendant container/action cells. The container cell attributes of a leaf container cell also include an attribute defining content type of content to be rendered in the leaf container cell. The action cell attributes include attributes defining an image and/or binaries to be executed for various user actions.

In another embodiment, other users related to a user's current task by a metric are listed. In one embodiment, the metric used to determine whether a user is related to a computer object determines whether the user accessed the computer object. In another embodiment, the metric used to determine whether a user is related to a computer object determines whether the user is referenced in the computer object. In other embodiments, the metric used to determine whether a user is related to a computer object involves other measures of relatedness. In one embodiment, the metric used to determine whether a computer object is related to another computer object determines whether the computer objects have a related user in common.

Abstract: When a customer operates a terminal to send a request for a provision of a manual page to the center via the Internet, the center determines whether the customer who is accessing is a registered customer (user of a copier) based on the stored customer information. In a case where the customer who is accessing the center is a registered customer, the center automatically selects electronic manual file(s) for the copier being used by the customer concerned. And the center generates a manual page representing the content of the selected manual file so that the content of the manual file is noticeable rather than the other information. The center transmits the manual page to the terminal concerned.

Abstract: A method and system are provided for managing files which are modified while the contents of the files are being viewed in a browser window in a data processing system. During execution of the browser, if a request to close a window in the browser is received, it is determined whether a file which was displayed in the window was modified since a last save operation for the file. If the file was modified, and the file had not been saved with the modifications, then an indicator of the modified file is included in a modification list with a reference to enable access to the modified file. The modification list is then sent to a user of the file so that the user may select options for saving the modified file, discarding the modifications, or resuming editing of the file. Thus, integrity of file modifications is enhanced.

Abstract: A system and method for enabling a graphical programming development environment to provide suggested graphical programming operations, such as suggested nodes or icons to include in a graphical program. User input specifying one or more nodes to include in the graphical program may be received. The one or more specified nodes may then be included in the graphical program. One or more suggested nodes to include in the graphical program may be then be automatically displayed or otherwise suggested to the user. The one or more suggested nodes may be based on the nodes already included in the graphical program. In various embodiments, the one or more suggested nodes may be displayed or otherwise suggested in various ways.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing an interactive graphical representation of a market for an electronic trading system are provided. A graph may be displayed on a display of a workstation in an electronic trading system. In one example, the graph may include a curve corresponding to a range of values of a financial instrument. In another example, the graph may include symbols that represent bids and offers for one or more financial instruments. A user may be allowed to select a portion of the graph. In response to the user's selection, a trading dialog box may be provided, thereby allowing the user to place a trade directly from the graph.

Abstract: Adware and viruses are examples of objects that may be embedded in a webpage or linked to a webpage. When such an object is detected to be associated with a webpage loading on a browser, an analysis may be performed to determine a trust level for the object. The object may be blocked in accordance with the trust level. A prompt may be displayed to advise a user that the object is being blocked, provide a description of the object, and to provide an opportunity to interactively accept or decline activation of an action for the object.

Abstract: A architecture is provided to enable a client web browser to conduct and manage a multilevel search. The browser includes an application layer interface. The application layer interface is for coupling to network via a protocol stack. The browser also includes a markup language parser. The parser receives information from the application layer interface. The browser includes a graphical user interface for presenting information to a user and allowing the user to specify a set of multilevel search parameters. The browser also includes a multilevel object factory coupled to receive a first input relating to a target web page and a second input specifying a multilevel browser operation such as a multilevel search. The multilevel object factory specifies a remote object agent that orchestrates a multilevel browser operation based upon the first and second inputs. The remote object agent is exported from the web browser to execute on a network server.

Abstract: An operating system provides extensions through which application developers may extend the capabilities of a shell of the operating system. For example, application developers may add menu items to context menus for objects that are visible within an integrated system name space. In addition, developers may add property sheet pages for such objects. Application developers also have the option of providing per-instance icons for each instance of an object. Application developers may provide data object extension handlers for customizing data sources on a per-object class basis and may provide drop target extension handlers on a per-object class basis to customize drop target behavior. Developers may additionally provide copy-hook handlers to regulate file system operations on objects. Developers may also extend the functionality provided by the shell of the operating system by adding their own custom name spaces to the integrated system name space.

Abstract: In a computer in which control software is installed, a display capability information receiving section conducts an information receiving process, receiving display capability information of a display device from a display capability information receiving/sending section of a printer beforehand. In printing job information settings, a display capability match/comparison section conducts a comparison process, comparing a user name and a printing job name inputted manually by a user or automatically by a job name and other data receiving section, with the display capability information received in the information receiving process, and determining whether the indication of the names is suitable for the display capability or not. A comparison result processing section receives the above comparison result, and when the indication is not suitable for the display capability, it conducts a notifying process, notifying the user to input the names using characters suitable for the display capability.

In one embodiment, an efficient extended boundary method is employed.

In particular, formatting is selected so that low bandwidth HTML engines render a user interface similar to that displayed by higher bandwidth engines.

Abstract: A system and method for organizing short-cut icons on an electronic display device utilizing a virtual filing cabinet for storing the icons to reduce clutter and confusion on large electronic device screens, and enable organized storage of the icons to be accessed at will for smaller device display screens. At the time of creation, and at any later time, every icon can be deposited into the virtual filing cabinet with a user defined directory structure or the icon can be left displayed on the display device. A data field allows device user or the program-installer to enter a brief notation regarding the nature, functionality, and the name of the program, file, or data represented by the short-cut icon. An icon displayed on the display device screen can be deposited into virtual filing cabinet at any later time, at will, and can be called forth onto the display screen, at any later time, at will.

Abstract: Methods, systems and articles of manufacture for enhanced control over the positioning of dialog boxes in relation to hyperlinks within electronic documents. The controlled positioning is implemented to mitigate any undesirable placement of dialog boxes that might limit to user access to hyperlinks contained within the electronic document. Accordingly, embodiments are provided for determining a location within a displayed electronic document at which a dialog box may be positioned without obscuring any hyperlinks. In the event that such positioning is not possible, steps are taken to position the dialog box in a location that will result in the least interference between the user and a displayed document.

A region 502 is set on a display of a lane 503 having a plurality of bands 504 to 508, based on an input cursor 501 of a pointing unit. The bands 506 to 508 within the region 502 are displayed to be in a selection candidate state. The size of the region 502 may be altered by an input of a predetermined key of a keyboard. Along with the size alteration of the region 502, bands to be displayed in the selection candidate state also change. By selecting with the mouse button, a band of interest is accurately selected from the bands in the selection candidate state.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a computer-implemented method for interfacing with a resident application of a computer system. Upon receipt of a data file in a background space of the computer system, a user interface having plural command interfaces is generated. By selecting a first one of the plural command interfaces, an instruction is issued to the resident application. If a first one of the command interfaces is selected, the data file is transferred to a foreground space of the computer system and opened. Conversely, by selecting a second one of the plural command interfaces, the data file is deleted without opening or transfer to the foreground space.

Abstract: One or more embodiments of the invention provide a method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for defining mating properties of a graphical component in a computer-implemented drawing program. An option to create a first constraint interface for a first geometric characteristic of a first component is initiated. In response to the initiation, a dialog window for specifying settings for the first constraint interface regardless of whether a second constraint interface is currently displayed is displayed. The settings define mating properties for how the first geometric characteristic of the first component mates with the second constraint interface. Once specified, the first constraint interface of the first geometric characteristic is persisted with the first component.

Abstract: A method to globally place a feedback button in every dialog box, message box, and top-level window in every application and message box in an operating system to provide a user with the opportunity to provide feedback for the dialog box, message box, or top-level window. The system checks a setting to determine if and what type of box/window that a feedback button will be placed and if the setting is enabled, a feedback button with customizable text will be placed on the box/window when the box/window is displayed if the type of window being displayed matches the type specified as having a feedback button. The system loads a program file that provides instructions to the user on how to provide feedback to a developer or system administrator when the user selects the feedback button. Once the user enters feedback, this feedback is sent to wherever the program file designated the information to be sent.

Abstract: A computing system for providing a user interface control to modify properties of items within a main application window. The computing system has a main application window, a gallery control window, a control object selection processing module, and a control object focus processing module. The main application window contains one or more application items, each application item having one or more control properties affecting a behavior of the application item. The gallery control window contains a list of one or more control objects for modifying control properties of the application items located within the main application window.
