Abstract: There are provided an image processing apparatus, an image generating apparatus, and an image processing method, capable of automating assignment of keys to functions and registration of macros provided by the image generating apparatus and presenting an index such as a shortcut key associated with one of the registered functions to a user at the timing when the user uses that function. To achieve this, first an operation command issued by a user through a control panel 1000 is received and history information about the operation command is stored in a storage device 900. A controller unit 200 detects history information about an operation command received through the control panel 1000 from among the history information, creates and registers a shortcut key for performing a operation command received through the control panel 1000 on the basis of the result of the detection, and presents the shortcut key to the user at a predetermined timing.

Abstract: A USB host/client system includes a USB host device, a USB client device connected via a USB cable to the USB host device, and a power supply unit remote from the USB host device for powering the USB host device through the USB cable connecting the USB client device to the USB host device. The USB host device can have means for communicating with a computer while the USB host device is connected to a USB client device, and/or the power supply unit supplies sufficient power for all normal operations of the USB host device.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are provided for graphical display of hierarchical hardlinks to files in a file system that includes identifying multiple hardlinks for a file and displaying relationships among the multiple hardlinks and the file. Some embodiments also include a hardlink comprising a link to a file directly mapping the file into a namespace. Graphical display of hierarchical hardlinks to files in a file system also includes providing a list of hardlinks to the file and providing in the file a pointer to the list. Some embodiments also include deleting the file having multiple hardlinks, renaming the hardlinks to the file, and displaying the pathnames of the hardlinks to the file.

Abstract: A technique for selecting an object is described. During this technique, a computer system selects an object from multiple objects associated with a circuit design in an electronic-design-automation (EDA) environment based at least on a current cursor location and a current design command. For example, the computer system may select the object by determining distances between the cursor location and objects in at least a subset of the multiple objects, and then identifying the minimum distance in the distances. Furthermore, the object may be selected either with or without a user first providing an object-selection input. If the object-selection input is provided, the user may do so by performing one or more mouse clicks or a keyboard shortcut, as opposed to using a window (such as a dialog box or a drop-down menu) that can be displayed in the EDA environment.

A registration is made with an operating system (OS) to be sent a notification when a predetermined file type is being displayed in a user's desktop. At some time an event notification is received regarding the graphical element. A file to display as a graphical element is determined, as is a location to position the graphical element in the user's desktop. The graphical element representing the file is displayed, as is a segment controller with the graphical element, the segment controller operable to permit a user to select which segment of the file to be displayed in the graphical element.

Abstract: A three state icon for a computer is disclosed. The icon prevents inadvertent starting of an operation on a computer. The icon has a first state which conceals a second state. Upon selection of the first state with a computer pointing device (i.e., mouse), the icon will change to the second state. Upon selecting the icon in the second state, the operation on the computer will start. Accordingly, only upon selecting the icon in the first state and then the second state, the operation will commence on the computer thereby preventing accidental startup of the operation. Once the second state has been selected, the icon will change to a third state which indicates that the operation is proceeding on the computer.

Abstract: A reconfigurable vehicle user interface system is presented. A vehicle user interface has a touch sensitive input devices such as touchpads and a touch screen that have specific function commands mapped to them. A user can select which function commands are mapped to which portions of the touch screen. This allows a user to customize the steering wheel function commands.

Abstract: A system and method is provided here that allow computer user to create a temporary guest running space for application without switching user environment. This unique method allows user to run trusted applications in regular running space while keeping a separate working space for applications that uses or visit non trusted data sources. Proposed method provides a safe execution environment while application running in guest space can't temper or alter data information stored in regular running space. A set of policy rules dictates how information will be exchanged between applications running in two separate working spaces transparently. The proposed system also make sure program files can't be altered or modified without proper need and suspicious call to modify program files or alter execution environment is blocked.

Generic shortcut sequences are sequences of generic inputs that are defined to an application program to initiate specific operations of the application, and which translate to a respective input sequence receivable from each of a plurality of different types of input device. An application program written to support generic shortcut sequences will initiate specific application operations when received device-specific inputs translate into a sequence of generic inputs and the sequence includes a generic shortcut sequence. An event translator applies mappings between receivable device-type-specific inputs and respective generic inputs, to allow received input sequences to be translated into sequences of generic inputs. The resulting sequences of generic inputs are compared with defined generic shortcut sequences.

When the user scrolls the document over a relatively large distance within a short time period, the system automatically adjusts the zoom factor so as to provide the user with a better overview during scrolling. When the user has finished scrolling, the zoom factor may be reinstated to its initial value.

The present method is used for generating a menu shortcut list corresponding to a hierarchical content menu including a plurality of function items. When one of the function items in the content menu is selected, a frequency parameter of the selected function item is calculated and determined whether larger than a threshold. If the frequency parameter is larger than the threshold, a prompt is performed to remind the user whether to add the function item to the menu shortcut list. Then, the function item is added to the menu shortcut list according to a selecting signal input by the user. Accordingly, a process for setting the menu shortcuts can be simplified.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed that provides for displaying on the screen of a handheld electronic device, an extended menu or a short menu, which is a subset of the corresponding extended menu. The system and method include an application displayed on a screen. If the application is currently running, and no menu is displayed, the user may initiate an ambiguous request. Various short menus, including those with solely one menu item, are provided with their respective menu items being dependent and adjustable based upon the position of a cursor on the display page, the currently opened application, and/or the previous selections. Further, a selection from the short menu is capable of displaying the extended menu corresponding thereto.

Abstract: A method is disclosed by the use of an idle display screen of an electronic device to render one or a plurality of advertisement messages. The method requires no extra effort from a user since the displayed message is replaced by a default display screen when the first user's input action is received. The displayed message is being removed into an icon displayed in the default screen in a notable means to the user. In one embodiment, a display plane with the advertisement message is reduced progressively and is moved into the icon in a visible way to the user with a visible trajectory of the movement on the screen. The user attracted by the displayed message may actuate the icon containing at least the displayed message for a review. Further, the icon may include other advertisement messages. Abstract: A method for navigating within a multi-level hierarchical collapsing menu structure is disclosed. Each level in the menu structure contains plural items, each item being at least one of a function, a pointer to a location, and a pointer to another level. The method of the present invention includes a step of providing a graphical user menu system displaying the items of a given level and enabling selection thereof, wherein access of the given level requires sequential access of each of the levels preceding the given level in the hierarchy. An Active Path is dynamically constructed as a sequence of active links as items are selected using the graphical user menu system, with one active link correspond to each of the items selected. The active links provide direct access to a function corresponding level or menu item without the need to navigate using the graphical user menu system.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program for organizing and visualizing display objects within a virtual environment is provided. In one aspect, attributes of display objects define the interaction between display objects according to pre-determined rules, including rules simulating real world mechanics, thereby enabling enriched user interaction. The present invention further provides for the use of piles as an organizational entity for desktop objects. The present invention further provides for fluid interaction techniques for committing actions on display objects in a virtual interface. A number of other interaction and visualization techniques are disclosed.

Abstract: A system and method for integrating command shell into a graphical user interface (GUI) in order to provide a single user interface (UI), so that a user need not work in different environments for different tasks are provided. An output response from the command shell is typically one or more lines of text from an output stream such as standard error or standard output. To accomplish the integration, a user is enabled to enter shell commands from the GUI. Output responses from the commands are interpreted to determine how to represent objects in the responses. The interpretation may be by pattern matching with regular expressions. If a shell command produces lines of command output, which when interpreted (e.g. indicating a file or folder), map to some other object model (e.g. a file subsystem) in the GUI, appropriate model objects (e.g., a file or folder icon) are created and rendered into the GUI as a response to the shell command.

Embodiments of the invention utilize graphical iconic-based techniques for performing the above operations. The configuration diagram may include device icons which represent devices and program icons which represent programs. Device icons and program icons may also interact with graphical program nodes or icons. Context sensitive device connections and/or program connections are displayed.

The advertisement parameters define the advertisement and are used for booking the advertisement. Additional media content associated with the advertisement is obtained from the advertiser. The additional media content includes rich media content. A dynamic content window is defined for rendering the additional media content. A graphical icon is provided for the advertisement to indicate that additional media content is available for the advertisement. The graphical icon is activated through a control or is activated by default. The graphical icon is associated with the dynamic content to provide access to the additional media content on the webpage in response to detecting a user action at the graphical icon.

Abstract: The present application discloses a method for generating a shortcut for launching computer program functionality on a computer. The method comprises the steps of monitoring a sequence of user actions resulting in the launch of the functionality; determining a launch frequency of the functionality; determining a complexity rating for the launch; comparing the launch frequency and the complexity rating with a predefined criterion; and generating the shortcut for activating the functionality if the predefined criterion is met. The present application further discloses a computer program product implementing the above method and a computer comprising such a computer program.
