Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for delivering instructional information and include displaying instructional information on several visual displays prior to a triggering event and displaying the instructional information in an instructional varying display pattern on the at least three visual displays after the triggering event so a person viewing the instructional varying display pattern is unable to detect a repeatable pattern. Also included is displaying background information on each display not displaying instructional information. The background information is displayed with a background varying display pattern so a person is unable to detect a repeatable pattern.

Abstract: A method and display apparatus of providing an advance screen saver warning is disclosed. The display apparatus includes a parameter set unit, a counter, and a controller. The parameter set unit initially predetermines a screen saver standby time and an advance screen saver warning time, and the counter counts a current system idle time during which no system input activity is detected. Then the controller activates an advance screen saver warning before activating a screen saver if the current system idle time is greater than or equal to a time difference between the screen saver standby time and the advance screen saver warning time, where the advance warning may be in the form of a warning window displayed on a display screen or a warning sound outputted through a speaker.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for generating a standby screen in a mobile terminal generates a standby screen which includes more than one image and may periodically replace or alter the displayed image. The method determines a grid layout of an output area of a screen and may configure each image to match a base cell or a random cell in size. The screen may include multiple layers and each layer may have a different image displayed thereon.

Abstract: There is provided a method of changing a theme for a user interface of a computer system comprising receiving an identification of an image with which to define a color palette of a theme for rendering elements of a user interface on a color display of the computer system; analyzing the image to determine at least one predominant color; and defining the color palette in response to the analysis. The image may comprise a background image selected by a user for display by the computer system. Dynamic generation of the color palette matches the user interface to colors to provide flexible and appealing themes. A computer readable memory having recorded thereon instructions to carry out this method is also provided, as well as a device comprising such memory.

Abstract: Storage apparatus and related methods wherein an operator control panel that controls functions and displays information regarding the storage apparatus and its storage devices is configured to have or display a selectable thumbtack function. The operator control panel is configurable to show a number of operational screens for managing the storage apparatus, show a default screen after a period of inactivity at the operator control panel, receive a designation that an operational screen should replace the default screen, and if designated, show the designated operational screen instead of the default screen after a period of inactivity.

Abstract: Authorized priority alerts are permitted to “pop up” on top of a running screensaver in a computer display without suspending operation of the screensaver. A windows manager monitors for priority alerts from applications. If the screensaver is active in the display, the windows manager determines if the alert issuing application and alert type are permitted to breakthrough the screensaver. If so, an alert notification window identifying the content of the alert is generated and displayed in z-order on top of the screensaver, without interrupting the operation of the screensaver displayed underneath. Some notification windows implement security features by displaying only a portion of the content of the corresponding alert or completely obscuring the content of the alert and only notifying of the presence of the alert. An additional security feature requires the user to enter a password in the notification window before the content or type of alert is displayed.

Abstract: An information display apparatus includes a display unit including a non-volatile display medium. The information display apparatus further includes: a temperature detecting unit configured to detect a display unit temperature which is temperature of the display unit; a temperature determining unit configured to determine whether the display unit temperature is outside of a set temperature range which is predetermined based on characteristics of the display unit; and a display control unit configured to perform on the display unit a burn prevention display which is predetermined based on the characteristics, when the display unit temperature is outside of the set temperature range.

Abstract: A software application executed at a user computer and/or server allows a user to select one or more multimedia files. The multimedia files may be provided at the user computer, sold at the server, or procured from a third party provider. The user can arrange the multimedia files into a presentation. A user can then specify a display device that will be used to present the multimedia presentation. The display device can be a television, portable media player, a computer, or other device. The system can translate the multimedia presentation into a format compatible with the device. Thus, the user is provided with a simple system to create multimedia presentation and receive the file in a format compatible with a device.

Abstract: The present invention concerns methods and apparatus for performing computer system maintenance and notification activities in an opportunistic manner during time periods identified by a user when the user expects not to be using the computer system. In methods and systems of the present invention, the user prioritizes computer system maintenance activities from high to low. When an opportunity arises to perform maintenance activities due to the user, for example, being away from the computer, the user specifies the length of time the user expects to be away from the computer using apparatus of the present invention. Methods of the present invention then initiate computer system maintenance activities beginning with the highest-priority maintenance activity that can be completed during the time period identified by the user. The method continues performing maintenance activities from highest to lowest priority for so long as there is enough time remaining to perform the next maintenance task.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a document processing device and associated method for generating an informational display on a document processing device. The method includes receiving preselected media content and displaying the preselected media content on a display of the document processing device. The method further includes receiving user identification data and retrieving user-specified media content preference data identifying a user-specified media content preferred by a user associated with the user identification data. The method also includes displaying the user-specified media content on the display of the document processing device in response to receipt of a request to complete a document processing operation using the document processing device.

Abstract: A method of determining when to activate a screen saver for a display device comprises selecting as a sample set a sparse subset of pixels which collectively form a display frame. An evaluation is performed of only the pixels in the sample set, to determine over a plurality of display frames whether pixels within the sample set have undergone a sufficient amount of change so that burn-in is unlikely. A determination is then made of whether to activate the screen saver based on a result of the evaluation.

Abstract: An instructional information delivery system and method based on the storing and retrieving information via an eye-ear-body system optimizes learning. Courses are prepared and presented with help from multimedia tools that present different aspects of the instructional materials. The system and the method complement instructor-led lessons by emphasis on information delivery according to the process of attention to and retention of information by the brain. The information delivery system and method provides for multiple display screens and speakers receiving instructional information based on data that is manipulated according to a set of rules in a multimedia environment. The system allows real time feedback by instructor's input, control and override so that the lesson is flexible and responsive to the classroom if changes in the learning environment occur.

The representative image extraction part is configured to extract an image in the group as a representative image of the group. The folding-button preparing part is configured to generate a folding button for displaying the representative image of the group on the screen. The folding-screen preparing part is configured to generate an image-listing screen (“folding screen)”) on which the representative image of the group and an ungrouped image are displayed when the folding-button displayed on the screen is operated.

Abstract: Methods, devices, and computer programs for controlling behavior of an electronic device are presented. A method includes an operation for operating the electronic device in a first mode of operation, and an operation for tracking the gaze of a user interfacing with the electronic device. The electronic device is maintained in a first mode of operation as long as the gaze is directed towards a predetermined target. In another operation, when the gaze is not detected to be directed towards the predetermined target, the electronic device is operated in a second mode of operation, which is different from the first mode of operation.

Abstract: A mobile terminal capable of allowing a user to rapidly and easily recognize a list of multi-tasks being executed is provided. The mobile terminal includes one or more bodies, an input unit performing a key input or a touch input, a display unit displaying a task execution screen and a controller displaying a list of tasks being executed when the mobile terminal is in a preset operation mode set by operating the body or the input unit.

Abstract: A system for monitoring and regulating computer usage on a local network is disclosed. Computers on a network are configured with a client activity monitoring module that collects activity information including screen captures, keyboard activity, and/or information relating to network communications and sends the collected activity information to a network activity monitor for storage and later retrieval. Each computer on the local network periodically verifies that its client activity monitor module is operable. If a computer fails to send such verification, the system restricts network access by that computer, thus enforcing compliance with the activity monitoring system. The system further provides means for automatically displaying the collected activity information, including through screen savers, automatically changing desktop background images, and pop-up or sidebar windows.

Abstract: There is provided a method of changing a theme for a user interface of a computer system comprising receiving an identification of an image with which to define a color palette of a theme for rendering elements of a user interface on a color display of the computer system; analyzing the image to determine at least one predominant color; and defining the color palette in response to the analysis. The image may comprise a background image selected by a user for display by the computer system. Dynamic generation of the color palette matches the user interface to colors to provide flexible and appealing themes. A computer readable memory having recorded thereon instructions to carry out this method is also provided, as well as a device comprising such memory.

Abstract: A system and method for displaying video images on a video screen of equipment including a function for displaying video images on said screen and an internal clock. The system includes a folder containing a plurality of video images; and an application for calculating a correspondence rule associating the time supplied by said internal clock with a video image of said folder, and for displaying on said screen successive video images of the folder starting from the video image that is associated by said correspondence rule with the time at which the video image display function was activated.

Abstract: A mobile communication terminal displays a word or phrase on an idle screen of the terminal using a mini planar function. A user provides one or more words or phrases associated with specific events, and when the specific event occurs, the associated word or phrase is displayed. Display attributes may be established and enabled for each of the words or phrases. Alternatively, each of the words or phrases may be associated with a starting time for display and an ending time for display, and if the current time is within the display period for more than one word or phrase, then each word or phrase is displayed.

For example, a method according to one embodiment of the invention comprises: initiating a screen saver on a data processing device; detecting keyboard input and/or mouse input on the data processing device while the screen saver is running; determining whether the screen saver is a keyboard interactive and/or a mouse interactive screen saver; if the interactive screen saver is keyboard interactive and/or mouse interactive, then performing interactive operations within the interactive screen saver in response to user input entered from the keyboard and/or mouse, respectively without quitting the screen saver; and if the interactive screen saver is not keyboard and/or mouse interactive, then quitting the interactive screen saver in response to detecting the keyboard input and/or mouse input.

The particular information is information displayed in the display portion when the device is in the first state. Abstract: A device for monitoring physiological parameters of a medical patient includes a pneumatic system configured to be coupled to a patient to provide a regulated gas thereto, a computer coupled to the pneumatic system and configured to regulate gas to the patient via the pneumatic system, and a touchscreen monitor coupled to the computer. The touchscreen monitor includes a first graphical user interface (GUI) having a first display, and a second GUI having a second display different from the first display and configured having interaction fields to enable parameters to be input therewith. The device includes a first trigger configured to switch at least from the first GUI to the second GUI.

Abstract: The system enables a user to select and order media objects, such as sound files, image files, animations, and text into a media presentation. The media presentation is then associated with a trigger or other interrupt event. Upon an occurrence of the event, the system plays the media presentation on system output devices. In one example of the system, the selected media files, ordering information, and other properties are assembled into a media package. The media package may be published to a remote device so that a remote device may play the media presentation.

A document processing signal representing the status of a document processing operation on an associated document processing device is first received. Media content data and preference data corresponding to user-specified media content data is then received. Pre-selected media content data is then generated on a display of a user interface associated with the document processing device when the device is idle, as determined by the document processing status signal. Display of the pre-selected media content is then suspended when the document processing signal indicates that the document processing device is active. User-specified media data content is then generated on the display of the user interface when the received document processing signal corresponds to active status of the associated document processing device.

Abstract: A device and method for managing information data in a mobile IP-based mobile telephone. The device and method employ an embedded web server for displaying a homepage of the mobile telephone on a web browser when linked to the mobile telephone through the web browser; and a program of server driven by the embedded web server to generate a command to enable communication between the mobile telephone and a telecommunication system using the web browser and to transmit a message confirming that data updated in the web browser has been updated in the mobile telephone to the web browser. The homepage of the mobile telephone is adapted to display information management menus of the mobile telephone and includes a language pack that stores at least one language so that the information management menus can be displayed in any selected language. The HDD recorder includes a content server that stores content information including a program that is in a script format and that controls a generation timing of a screen saver screen, and video stream information. The image display device includes a script processing unit that acquires the content information from the content server and executes the program in script format and a stream processing unit that acquires the video stream information from the content server and decodes the video stream information. The script processing unit executes the program in script format, does not have a screen saver processing unit perform rendering of a screen saver screen during decoding of the video stream, and generates and displays a screen saver after completion of decoding.

Abstract: A computer screensaver program runs a home energy manager application. The screensaver program is activated after a predetermined time and automatically runs a web browser by detecting the URL of the home energy manager application. The home energy manager interface is then displayed on the computer screen or a remote monitor. Preferably, the screensaver cycles through one or more various screens and remains active until a key is pressed or the mouse is activated.

One or more afterimage reduction patterns having one or more opaque areas, and/or one or more semi-transparent areas and one or more non-opaque areas are stored in a storage unit. A composition unit outputs a final image composed of a displayed main image and afterimage reduction patterns output from the storage unit. A control unit causes afterimage reduction patterns selected by a user from the storage unit to be input to the composition unit, and a final image in which only pixels corresponding to opaque areas and/or semi-transparent areas in the main image are replaced by color of the opaque areas and/or semi-transparent areas in the afterimage reduction patterns to be output from the composition unit. Accordingly, it is possible to view a received main image while reducing afterimage using images of various patterns for afterimage reduction.

Abstract: There is described a method, to a program and to a system for graphically displaying and projecting at least one network of devices of an automation system, a high density of information usually occurring at the user interface. To allow a user to selectively display devices in a network, in addition to a large quantity of overview information, a solution is proposed in which a user can display individual devices in more detail in an overview. The user can therefore select a device, the instantaneously non-visible details of which he wishes to access, and change the appearance of the device from a not very detailed display to a very detailed display by way of further interaction. This applies to any desired number of devices which can be simultaneously displayed in detail. One advantage is that the network interfaces of devices may also be displayed which cannot be displayed with all network interfaces in the overview without the user being forced to have to change to a different, detail-oriented view.

Abstract: This is directed to dynamic tags or screen savers for display on an electronic device. The tags can include several dynamic elements that move across the display. The particular characteristics of the elements can be controlled in part by the output of one or more sensors detecting the environment of the device. For example, the color scheme used for a tag can be selected based on the colors of an image captured by a camera, and the orientation of the movement can be selected from the output of a motion sensing component. The tag can adjust automatically based on the sensor outputs to provide an aesthetically pleasing display that a user can use as an fashion accessory.

Abstract: A method and system for reducing burn-in of a display is disclosed. A plurality of assets containing text, graphics, and video are stored. Some of these assets are then assembled into a video frame or “screen”, which is subsequently output. Some of the assets are then assembled to form a second video frame or screen. The second screen is subsequently output to the video transport stream and the process is repeated.

Abstract: An information servicing method for communicating information between a server and a client terminal through a network, comprising: deciding whether a predetermined time period has elapsed without user input; switching a prevailing processing to a background processing when it is decided that the no user input has occurred during the predetermined time period; transmitting to the server personal information comprising user preference data and/or a schedule, registered in advance, each time the prevailing processing becomes background processing; and displaying an answer corresponding to the transmitted personal information when the answer is received from the server, the answer comprising push information correlating to the personal information.

Abstract: A mechanism for reducing the power consumption of virtual machine host servers is disclosed. A method for a virtual machine (VM) power reduction agent (PRA) hosted by a VM may include identifying a user activity associated with the VM, determining that the VM is inactive based on the user activity associated with the VM, and notifying a host of the VM that the VM is inactive to facilitate application of a power reduction policy to the VM based on specific power reduction settings associated with the VM.

The display device confirms whether display data applied to a display panel are uniformly maintained for a predetermined time. As a result of confirmation, if the display data are uniformly maintained for a predetermined time, pixels of the display panel are made for a predetermined block unit so that screen save modes are performed to sequentially apply screen save mode data to pixels of each block. The screen save modes are completed after there are sequentially performed for all blocks on the display panel. Thus, uniform luminance deviation can be obtained on the display panel of the display device and further picture quality of the display device can be improved.

Abstract: In a video display control method of the embodiment, a background image of a moving picture or a still picture is provided on an image display screen, and an on-screen display image is displayed on the screen including the background image. Then, when a first predetermined time period or more has elapsed without any apparatus operation since the on-screen display image is displayed, the on-screen display image is cleared. When a second predetermined time period or more has elapsed without any apparatus operation since the background image is changed to a still, screen-save processing is executed.

Abstract: An arrangement for maintaining even tube burn-in. The arrangement identifies active and inactive display regions on a display unit when video content is displayed on the display unit. When inactive display regions are identified the arrangement monitors the duration that the active display regions remain active. After the active display regions become inactive and a predetermined time period has passed the arrangement displays a corrective image on the identified inactive regions. The predetermined time period may be set by a user or based on the user's viewing habits.

Abstract: A program guide browser (PGB) in accordance with embodiments of the invention may obtain program information items from an electronic program listing database and display the program information items on a user-interface display of a terminal, which may be a mobile terminal. The PGB may display program guide information for programs that are available for viewing on the terminal at that time. The PGB may display program information items for multiple programs one after another and may display each program information item for a predetermined duration. The sequence of program information items may repeat in a loop. An end user may specify and store personal-interest rules for the PGB to alert the user when the PGB is displaying information for a certain program, or for a certain genre of program.

Abstract: Devices and methods are disclosed which relate to an electronic device having a human stimulus receptor which, when activated, suspends activation of a screensaver. The screensaver is activated to conserve the power and life of the electronic device. When latently viewing the electronic device, however, the human stimulus receptor is activated. A countdown starts counting down a pre-determined amount of time once the human stimulus receptor is inactive. At the expiration of the countdown, the screensaver is activated. The human stimulus receptor responds to skin conductivity, natural muscular twitch, pulse, skin temperature, and/or eye movement. Only when the electronic device no longer detects any of these human stimuli will the countdown begin. A user may set the predetermined amount of time.
