Patent number: 4770019Abstract: To promote the forming performance of band material into pipes and to decrease the number of forming stages and changes of the forming rolls in the pipe mill, considering that it is superior when forming the band material into pipes of required diameters if the sectional shape of the band material is provided with a curved surface which changes its curvature continuously into the required diameter, we provide a curved roll surface of numerous curvatures changing continuously. In a continuous roll forming in accordance with the present invention, a forming roll having an approximate involute curve based upon a polygon comprising a plurality of sides is used. By using the conventional rolls in various combinations therewith in each stage of forming as a horizontal roll, side roll and upper intermediate roll or a cage roll, the number of stages of the forming roll can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1986Date of Patent: September 13, 1988Assignee: Nakata Manufacture Company LimitedInventors: Ryosuke Kuramoto, Atumu Okamoto, Takashi Tomino

Patent number: 4614293Abstract: The device comprises several sets of shaped rollers disposed on parallel circumferences. The rollers of one of said sets are gauged and innerly define a circumference the diameter of which is equal to that of the cylindrical box-shaped elements to be shaped. In order to ensure a perfect welding of the cylindrical box-shaped elements, some of the gauged rollers are powered at a constant speed. These powered gauged rollers mesh with each other by means of their respective toothing and only one of them is powered by a powered toothed belt which moves the welded box-shaped elements away from the shaping device.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1985Date of Patent: September 30, 1986Assignee: CEFIN S.p.A.Inventor: Luigi Pazzaglia

Patent number: 4487046Abstract: A transition forming unit is provided for forming a strip of U-shaped cross-sectional configuration into a generally annular shaped cross-sectional configuration. The forming process is performed by a plurality of roll assemblies adjustably mounted on a pair of spaced longitudinally extending beams, one disposed on each side of the longitudinal axis of the forming unit. The beams are adjustable in respect of the longitudinal axis of the forming unit. A hold down assembly is provided for controlling the alignment of the U-shaped strip as it passes through the forming unit. The roll assemblies are mounted on each beam to absorb thrust loads produced during the forming process.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1984Date of Patent: December 11, 1984Assignee: Abbey Etna Machine Co.Inventor: Nelson D. Patent number: 4455855Abstract: Forming rolls of a tube-producing apparatus comprise an upper roll having two identical roll parts supported at spaced-apart positions on a roll shaft, each roll part having a rounded outer circumferential working surface which, as viewed in section taken along a plane passing through the rotational axis of the roll, has a rounded convex profile shape of mutually different inner and outer radii of curvature on inner and outer sides of the profile centerline perpendicular to the axis, the working surface portion of the outer radius operating cooperatively with the outer portion of a lower roll to form the lateral portion of a strip metal plate passed therebetween. Each upper roll part can be turned around in orientation on the roll shaft to place the working surface of the originally inner radius on the outer side, thereby changing the gap between the upper and lower rolls to suit the wall thickness of the tube being produced.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1982Date of Patent: June 26, 1984Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Sanyo SeikiInventor: Masayuki Hayashi

Patent number: 4339938Abstract: A flat skelp is longitudinally fed through convex and concave horizontal rolls, and is edge-crimped so that both edges are curved inward symmetrical to the pass line. The edge-crimped skelp is forced through a plurality of cage rolls disposed along and symmetrical to the pass line. The cage rolls perform intermediate forming that shapes mainly the uncrimped portion of the skelp toward a round form symmetrical to the pass line. The nearly rounded skelp is then subjected to finish-forming, with the fin of a finned-roll inserted in the gap between the edges. The edge-crimping process includes two or more stages; bending the outermost edges of the skelp and subsequent bending of the inward portion adjacent to the first bent edges.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1981Date of Patent: July 20, 1982Assignee: Nippon Steel CorporationInventors: Makoto Nakagawa, Takeshi Mori
