  • Patent number: 10527314
Abstract: A duct making apparatus includes a first station configured to accept a formable sheet material and a second station configured to receive the formable sheet material from the first station. The first station includes a mechanism for forming one of a male lock bend and a female lock seam in a leading edge of the formable sheet material. The second station includes a retractable conveyor. Movement of the sheet material from the first station to the second station defines an axis of travel of the sheet material. The retractable conveyor is selectively movable from a first position in which the retractable conveyor is in close association with the first station, and a second position in which the retractable conveyor is spaced from the first station.

Abstract: A method of regulating the cross-section of rolling stock through a looper for the rolling stock, particularly between roll stands in section rolling mills. In accordance with the method, the horizontal forces in the rolling stock are varied by varying the loop height, and width increases or width adjustments of the rolling stock are purposefully influenced through the horizontal forces.

  • Patent number: 5640866
Abstract: A rolling mill includes a roll barrel having a straight region disposed at the middle thereof, sub-crown control regions disposed at both ends thereof, and main-crown control regions disposed between the straight region and the sub-crown control regions. The roll barrel has an outer surface having a bus bar which is a straight line inclined to a longitudinal axis of the roll barrel in the straight region, steep convex and concave curved shapes in the main-crown control regions, and gentle convex and concave curved shapes in the sub-crown control regions. The roll barrel has both ends having a diameter approximately equal to each other. The roll provides a large degree of freedom in designing curves to be applied to an outer surface of a roll barrel with the result that a larger crown control can be performed, and has a small number of factors for a vibration of a plate.

  • Patent number: 5540074
Abstract: A self-contained unitary assembly for peripheral devices normally located close to a Steckel mill is provided. The assembly has a frame open at both ends to receive and pass through the steel product being rolled. Above and below the pathway for the steel product are located transversely spaced arrays of descaler nozzles and their headers and also controlled cooling nozzles and their headers. Also included within the unitary assembly is the x-ray measuring gauge or other suitable measuring instrument for measuring some characteristic of the steel product. The unitary assembly is positioned between the pinch rolls and the Steckel mill. Protective steel plates or beams are provided running both transversely and longitudinally within the frame for the assembly to provide protection for the nozzles and measuring apparatus. These protective elements also serve to minimize the amount of errant water spray that might otherwise tend to enter the coiler furnace.

Abstract: This invention relates to an improvement in an externally held cylindrical expander for tubular ware with a central support for radially adjustable, spreading rest means and sector-shaped longitudinal elements borne by said rest means, in particular for the treatment of the tubular ware with liquid treatment means, the longitudinal elements extending between bodies tapering in the longitudinal direction, mounted between the ends of the support, and acting as entry and exit means, the improvement comprising: (a) rollers with axes of rotation transverse to the ware transport direction T mounted on the outsides of the individual longitudinal elements in transverse planes of the expander, (b) the rollers located in a common transverse plane covering the gaps between rollers located in an adjoining transverse plane, (c) the rollers from adjoining transverse planes mounted on one longitudinal element overlap by their ends at the center of the longitudinal element, (d) the other ends of the rollers project beyond th

  • Patent number: 4310031
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for laying out and evenly distributing the coils of severed hot strands of wire emerging from a rolling mill. In order to maintain the line in continuous operation and in order to distribute the severed cooled strands to the subsequent bundling apparatus, the arrangement herein provides for dual conveyors each preceded by its own laying tube and a switch for selectively feeding the strands to one or other of the conveyors. By controlling the speed of one relative to the other of the dual conveyors, the strands may be selectively converged in even distribution for subsequent processing. The dual conveyors may be side by side or superimposed one above the other. With the latter arrangement, the upper conveyor may be mounted to pivot into and out of the line of the lower conveyor for the sequential feeding of the coils to the following line.
