  • Patent number: 4788844
Abstract: An apparatus for straightens long slender shafts by moving a force couple over the length of the shaft as the shaft is rotated. The force couple is applied by two or more contact points with at least two contact points being located on opposite sides of the shaft. The contact points are mounted on a movable base. A pair of parallel guide rods receive the base and restrain the base against movement in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the shaft. A lever, pivotally mounted to the base, holds one of the contact points. Movement of the lever controls the magnitude of the force couple and movement of the base relative to the shafts. The lever can be manually operated to lend simplicity to the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4620573
Abstract: The present disclosure describes a tool having a pliers-like configuration for separating the wires of a twisted pair. The tool employs a pair of rotatable, tubular jaws for effecting the separation of the wires as the twisted pair is drawn therethrough. More than one pair of twisted wires may be separated simultaneously if desired. The rotating action of the tubular jaws minimizes operator fatigue, eliminates stretch damage to the wire insulation and reduces wear of the jaw surfaces, which are preferably formed of a resilient material.

  • Patent number: 4591788
Abstract: A magnetic field sensing device for sensing low levels of magnetic intensity is composed of a ribbon-shaped strip of amorphous magnetic material having at least one twist along the length thereof between the ends of the strip. Subsequent to imparting the desired number of twists to the strip, the strip is supported in the twisted condition. The device is capable of generating a pulse in response to the presence of an external magnetic field similar to the Wiegand wire effect.

  • Patent number: 4472867
Abstract: A tool for bending a lip on sheet metal around a frame, particularly useful in bending a sheet metal door panel around an automobile door frame. The operator manually grasps the tool handle in one hand while operating a ratchet with his other hand to drive the tool and bend the sheet metal. The ratchet operates a drive roller which causes the tool to move forward while also bending the lip of the sheet metal around the frame.

  • Patent number: 4398334
Abstract: A hand tool for installing clips to abutting edges of ducts and for crimping the clips to secure the ducts together is comprised of a rectangularly shaped base plate including pairs of opposed rollers mounted thereon with their axes perpendicular to the plate. A gap between the rollers is approximately the same size as the width of the combined edges being secured together. A raised pusher member pushes a clip which is resting on the plate into place and the same is crimped by the rollers when the tool is drawn back. A handle is located on the reverse side of the plate for manually moving the tool.

  • Patent number: 4164223
Abstract: An instrument for use with surgical procedures such as for clearing and disloding the contents of chest tubing, catheters, common duct T-tubing and IV tubing and the like. A pair of rollers are mounted on shafts which are hinged together at one end. A cylindrical handle is mounted on an opposite end of one shaft and an opposed thumb rest is mounted on the end of the other shaft. The hand of a user grasps the handle and thumb rest for moving the rollers into and out of engagement with opposite sides of the tubing. The instrument compresses the tubing and is moved any desired distance along its length for propelling tubing contents or creating suction within the tubing.

  • Patent number: 4037629
Abstract: A device primarily for use by silversmiths and hobbyists for crimping a relatively thin strip of metal for jewelry creations and crafts. A pair of discs each have a centrally mounted pinion gear extending outwardly from a flat face of the disc. The gears are received within an annular collar having an elliptical cross-sectional configuration which houses the gears in meshing relationship and separates the discs. A pair of aligned holes is formed in the collar for receiving and discharging a strip of metal which is fed between the meshing gears and crimped when the discs are manually rotated. The collar is adjustable to regulate the crimp depth by varying the elongation of the collar by mechanically pressure squeezing the same.

  • Patent number: 3991599
Abstract: Three cylindrical rollers are rotatably mounted equidistant from the center of a hollow tool head on radii spaced 120.degree. apart. Each roller has a thin flange; the three flanges lie in a single plane to form an internal circumferential rib in a rotating tubular workpiece. The tool head has two complementary parts with two rollers in one part of the head and one roller in the other part; the two parts are joined by a hinge. A second hinge, located so the rollers are between the two hinges, connects one of the parts to a tool bar mounted in a lathe tool holder. The axes of rotation of both hinges and all three rollers are parallel. A hole exposing equal portions of the three roller flanges is located in the center of the tool head. The two hinges permit the tool head to be opened and rotated slightly downward, taking the roller flanges out of the path of the workpiece which is supported on both ends and rotated by the lathe.

  • Patent number: 3952389
Abstract: A hand-held burnishing tool for setting gemstones in a mounting wherein the burnishing surface comprises a rotating wheel having a hardened peripheral surface, the wheel mounted on a bearing and rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the handle. Urging the hardened peripheral surface against a soft metal gemstone mounting while revolving the tool about the perimeter of the mounting, causes the wheel to roll about the mounting and results in turning the edge against the stone avoiding scrape marks and scratches which can occur when a conventional blade burnisher is used. Crimps which may occur during the burnishing process may be easily worked out by repeated passes of the tool. By provision of various surfaces of revolution incorporated in the hardened peripheral surface, the edge of the mounting may be turned in a manner not readily obtainable with a conventional blade burnisher, including cold working a design in the edge while burnishing.
