With Use Of Means To Move Work-forcer Patents (Class 72/213)
  • Patent number: 5592733
Abstract: Presented is a hardware insertion press of the type for insertion of fasteners in sheet metal. The press incorporates both operator and tool protection systems that prevent the operator from being injured during use of the press, and which prevent the tool from being damaged by misalignment of a fastener in relation to the workpiece to which the fastener is intended to be fastened. For operator safety, the press is equipped so that the ram will retract if the tool encounters a part of the operator's body, such as a hand or finger. For tool protection the press incorporates mechanisms that define the press "window" so that a misaligned fastener encountered out of the range of the press window will cause the ram to be interrupted in its movement.

  • Patent number: 5551270
Abstract: An extrusion assembly, which fits into a hydraulic press, includes an upper die plate and a lower die plate mounted to one another by die guide posts. A lead bar is coupled to the upper die plate at one end and to a mandrel at its other end and includes helical grooves on its surface that mate with helical protrusions on lead nuts. A die shell and insert are mounted concentrically with mandrel and receive a gear blank. As hydraulic press pushes lead bar axially toward gear blank, lead nuts impart a rotational motion to lead bar, which causes mandrel to move with a helical motion as it is pressed into and pulled out of gear blank.

Abstract: A vertical frame supports an interchangeable mandrel or die which receives the center portion of an elongated metal rod having opposite threaded end portions, and the rod is clamped to the die by a pivotal locking bar secured by a wedge actuated by a hydraulic cylinder. The frame also includes a vertical plate having upper and lower corner blocks connected by a pair of vertical guide rods. The rods support a horizontal carriage cross bar for vertical movement, and the cross bar pivotally supports upper end portions of a pair of arms each formed by rigidly connected parallel spaced plates having aligned straight cam slots. A pair of bending rollers are supported by the lower end portions of the arms, and a hub member extends between the plates of each arm and supports slide blocks which move within the cam slots. A hydraulic cylinder moves the cross bar vertically to move the arms and bending rollers along converging paths for overbending the rod around the die.

Abstract: A tube bending apparatus has an elongate frame with a longitudinal slot in an upper surface thereof and removal rollers laterally spaced at each side of the slot above the upper surface. A rolling carriage and reciprocating ram are disposed beneath the upper surface. A vertical post secured to the carriage has an upper end extending through the slot and a reversible bending die is removably mounted on the upper end of the post above the upper surface of the frame. The bending die is advanced and retracted relative to the lateral rollers by the ram such that a section of a tubular workpiece held against said lateral rollers can be engaged by the bending die and bent into a curved configuration.

  • Patent number: 5522244
Abstract: When starting up the punch press its eccentric shaft must accelerate through a start-up angle from the resting state up to the operating speed of rotation due to the forces of inertia of the moving structures of the punch press. When stopping the punch press the eccentric shaft is rotated in the direction of normal operation into a position between the upper dead center and the lower dead center position, in which latter position no contacting between the upper tool and the metal strip to be worked upon takes place. From this position the eccentric shaft is rotated backwards by the start-up angle into a start-up angle position. In the start-up angle position again no contact between the upper tool and the strip takes place.

  • Patent number: 5477724
Abstract: For tying a compressed bale tending to expand primarily along a major axis, a bale tie made preferably from steel wire or alternatively from steel strap is bent to form two marcelled portions, which are characterized by sinusoidal undulations, which are oriented so as to be generally parallel to the major axis, and along which the tie can straighten to absorb tensile forces. A joint is formed at the opposite ends of the tie. Where bent to form the marcelled portions, the tie has an ultimate strength less than the ultimate strength of an undeformed portion of the tie but more than the ultimate strength of the joint. An apparatus for forming a wire with a marcelled portion comprises upper rolls and lower rolls, which are rotatably mounted and respectively on an upper block and a lower block. The upper block is pivotally mounted upon the lower block.

  • Patent number: 5259232
Abstract: A hand operated rebar bender and bent bar straightener which includes a base, a pair of spaced apart bending posts and a linearly reciprocal slide disposed between the posts and movable reciprocally in directions perpendicular to a line interconnecting the posts. The slide defines a first and second groove, both adapted to receive rebar, which move with the slide. The first groove is positioned so that straight rebar to be bent is originally tangent to the peripheries of the posts. The improvement of the present invention includes mechanical advantage which each movement of the handle moves the slide in increments thus allowing a person of lessor strength to comfortably bend heavy rebar such as #5. Also, a unique automatic or manual reversing mechanism is disclosed which allows the handle to be used in only one direction for straightening rebar as well as bending it.

  • Patent number: 5253502
Abstract: An apparatus for bending and forming sheet metal into U-shaped channel members is comprised of a support block for supporting a blank of sheet metal in a centered position, a pair of rollers that engage in rolling contact against opposite ends of the sheet metal, and an anvil around which the sheet metal blank is formed into the U-shaped channel member. The sheet metal blank is formed over opposite sides of the anvil by the rollers engaging in rolling contact against the opposite ends of the sheet metal blank. As the rollers roll over the opposite ends of the sheet metal blank, they bend and form the sheet metal ends into channel bends having acute interior angles. When the rollers are removed from the sheet metal ends, the resiliency of the sheet metal causes the channel bends to spring back from their acute angle configurations to right angle configurations.

  • Patent number: 4788847
Abstract: A rod bending device using a combination of a movable mandrel and two moving rollers, between which mandrel and which rollers the rod bending is effected, the movements of which mandrel and rollers are effected simultaneously by the same power system and by a single power stroke. The power system, preferably a hydraulic system, effects movement of the movable mandrel which in turn simultaneously effects movement of two arms which support the movable rollers. This simultaneous movement of the mandrel and the rollers effects the bending of the rod which is positioned between the mandrel and the rollers. The curvature and the degree of the bending are determined by the shape of the mandrel, the positioning of the rollers on the supporting arms and the extent of the revolution of the arms about the individual fulcrums on which the respective arms are revolved.

Abstract: A hydraulic bending machine comprises a reciprocating connector fitted symmetrically with a pair of roller holders having inner and outer rollers rotatably attached to the end portions thereof, respectively. In these inner and outer rollers to abut against a workpiece, the outer rollers have a diameter larger than that of the inner rollers. A guide block is disposed forward in the extending direction of the connector. When the connector extends, the workpiece is held between the rollers of the respective roller holders and the guide block. When the connector further extends, then the roller holders rock around their rocking centers, and the workpiece, pushed by the inner and outer rollers, is bent around the guide block. Since the diameter of the outer rollers is larger than that of the inner rollers, the workpiece is bent further by the outer rollers than by the inner rollers. Thus, there may be maintained a desired bending angle even with the restoring force applied to the workpiece after bending.
