Patent number: 5802905Abstract: The object of the invention is to apply an appropriate temperature profile to a bloc to be extruded, at which the extrusion process may be optimized For that purpose, the metal blocks (10a) to be extruded are heated (furnace 2) up to an appropriate extrusion temperature for that metal, are stored at that temperature (holding chamber 3) and are chilled (chamber 5) according to regulation areas (18) in synchronism with the extrusion cycle. Regulation in the areas (18) is carried out by influencing the amount and/or temperature of the coolant, and/or cooling duration, so that an axial and radial temperature distribution is obtained at the block.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1996Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Assignees: SMS Hasenclever GmbH, Hydro Aluminium a.s. Patent number: 5467630Abstract: A method for working terminal parts of materials subjected to vertical suspension type surface treatment thereby forming in the terminal parts such hook engaging parts as to be engaged with nipping devices of a carrier bar serving to convey the materials successively to a series of surface-treating baths is disclosed. This method is characterized in that the formation of the hook engaging part in the terminal part of the material is carried out at the same time that or after the step of cutting an extruded material into a fixed length is performed. The hook engaging part may be a groove, notch or hole formed in the terminal part of the fixed-length material and may be formed by a cutting or pressing work. In another embodiment, a protuberant hook engaging part is formed by welding on the surface of the terminal part of the fixed-length material while the material is in transit to a inspection table.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1992Date of Patent: November 21, 1995Assignee: Yoshida Kogyo K.K.Inventors: Kiyomitsu Matsushima, Katsuyuki Nagata

Patent number: 5406818Abstract: Twin metal billets are fed to dual circumferential grooves formed in a rotating wheel. The billets are advanced first to a wedge-shaped gap which deforms the billets and are then advanced to a die. The die has a die opening with a circumferentially discontinuous, annular cross-section. The metal from each billet merges in the die opening and exits therefrom in the form of a slit tube. The tube is then opened and flattened to form a flat strip by advancing the slit tube over a forming member having a progressively increasing width. As the tube is advanced over the forming member, an alignment system maintaining the tube in a centered position. The alignment system includes a light source disposed within the tube and two arrays of photo-transistors arranged to receive light from the light source, the amount of light sensed by each array being a function of the position of the slit in the tube relative to a desired position.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1993Date of Patent: April 18, 1995Assignee: ABB Power T & D CompanyInventors: Thomas L. Patent number: 5327763Abstract: An apparatus for cooling extruded profile sections comprises nozzles which are arranged above and below an exit path of the extruded profile section and which are formed as air nozzles arranged transversely of the pressing and exit direction of the extruded profile section and having slit-shaped nozzle openings. The air nozzles arranged beneath the exit path have a smaller nozzle slit width than the air nozzles arranged above the exit path and blowing onto the extruded profile section from above; the distance of the lower air nozzles from the extruded profile section is less than the distance of the upper air nozzles from the extruded profile section; and the air nozzles arranged beneath the extruded profile section are offset with respect to the air nozzles arranged above the extruded profile section in each case by half the pitch, measured in the pressing and transport direction of the extruded profile section.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1993Date of Patent: July 12, 1994Assignee: WSP Ingenieurgesellschaft fur WarmetechnikInventors: Carl Kramer, Dirk Menzler

Patent number: 5305626Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for extruding sections from materials, such as aluminium or aluminium alloys, in which material which has been rendered plastic is forced through an extrusion gap formed in a die and in which the extrusion gap is bounded by separate, mutually oppositely situated running surfaces, in which method, as a consequence of the shape and/or length of the running surfaces and/or width of the extrusion gap, the material forced through the extrusion gap experiences a lower resistance at one side of the die than at the other side of the die, more material being forced through the extrusion gap at said one side than at said other side, a curved section being formed as a result of the difference in the amount of material at the one side and at the other side, the longitudinal axis of said section having a curvature with a certain radius.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1993Date of Patent: April 26, 1994Assignee: Reynolds Aluminium Holland B.V.Inventor: Jozef J. Patent number: 5263349Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for extruding molybdenum-rhenium alloys into tubes or pipes. The invention is capable of high temperature extrusion of MoRe alloys, which comprise about 10 to 50 wt. % rhenium, into a seamless piper or tube. The steps of the process generally comprise fabricating a MoRe billet or blank which includes a pilot hole that extends along the longitudinal axis of the billet, heating the billet to a temperature of at least about 1300.degree. C., and extruding the heated billet by operation of an extrusion press.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1992Date of Patent: November 23, 1993Assignee: E. I. Patent number: 5201209Abstract: Apparatus for pulling metal extruded from an extrusion machine has a pair of carriers mounted on one side and below the surface of a runout table. Each carrier moves on a rail parallel to the table. One carrier in an operative position does not interfere with the other in a retracted position when they pass each other. Production efficiency is improved by using the carriers alternately. With the rails below the level of the table surface, space above the runout table can accommodate apparatus to cool the extruded metal.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1991Date of Patent: April 13, 1993Assignee: Giken Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masao Houmura, Mitsuo Yasui, Seizo Washizuka, Norio Futakuchi, Hitoshi Mukaiyama

Patent number: 5038595Abstract: An extraction device for a metal tube obtained by hot extrusion is located along an extrusion axis downstream of the die of an extrusion press. The extraction device has a group of elastic metal fingers for gripping the tube against a bearing surface of a discharge chute receiving the extruded tube. The fingers are joined at one end to a rotatable shaft in order to bring the fingers into elastic contact with an outer wall of the tube. A double-acting jack is connected directly or indirectly to the shaft in such a way as to permit the displacement of the tube clamped by the fingers towards the downstream end and to thereby extract its upstream end from the die.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1990Date of Patent: August 13, 1991Assignee: ValinoxInventor: Pierre G. Patent number: 5031436Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing an extruded profile shape from an extrusion press efficiently and economically during an extrusion operation. A first and second extrusion puller are mounted on suitable guide for movement along an extrusion line. One of the extrusion pullers receives and grips a profile shape as it is extruded from an extrusion press, and this puller exerts a pulling force on the profile shape. The first puller can pass off the profile shape to the second puller as the profile shape is extruded, thereafter the second puller would grip and pull the profile shape and the first puller would release its grip. When it is desired, or necessary to remove the profile shape from the extrusion press, the puller which is not gripping the shape grips the profile shape and a shear within the press shears off a butt portion of the billet. Then, both pullers, in tandem, apply a pulling force on the profile shape away from the extrusion press. The profile shape is stripped from the die.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1990Date of Patent: July 16, 1991Assignee: Granco-Clark, Inc.Inventor: James T. Visser
