Abstract: A tube support mechanism is adaptable to a respective tube diameter being transported, and includes an articulated link chain that rests against a circumference of a tube, and includes chain links. The chain links are disposed in at least two planes, overlap one another from plane to plane in overlap zones, and are pivotably connected. Facing ends of the chain links of a given plane of chain links have identical gear wheel contours that mesh with one another. Adjustment of the tube support mechanism from one nominal diameter to another is effected by a pressure effect, onto the tube support mechanism, of a conical tube transition piece that results during the change in diameter during continuing operation. An angle of contact of the tube support mechanism against a tube successively changes.

Abstract: A curved extrusion includes a body that has indefinite length and a cross-section, and that is formed to contour and at least one channel cut into the cross-section that is filled with deposited material such that said cross-section of said body is restored. By cutting the channels into the cross-section of the extrusion, the extrusion may be easily formed onto a contoured tool to be curved with lower forming and residual stresses and distortion. By filling the channels with deposited material, the original cross-section and strength of the extrusion can be restored. By adding a transverse stiffener, the strength of the original extrusion may not only be restored but also further improved. By depositing material to create structural features the cross-section of the extrusion may be locally changed. Abstract: The purpose of the invention is a reverse extruding press perfected for releasing a billet jammed in the container.According to the invention, the obturator (31) of the rear surface of the container with a thickness (e) can be replaced, by displacement transversal to the extrusion axis (10), by an extraction part (33) of the same thickness (e), fitted with a central hole (34) of the same section as that of the recess (20) of the container (2). By bringing the movable beam (3) forward, the extraction part (33) pushes the container (2) backwards as well as the rear section (53) of the billet (5) which is cleared from the recess (20) and engages into the central hole (34). The billet (5) being thus maintained, the container can be moved forward to position the pick-up means (54).

Abstract: The object of the invention is to apply an appropriate temperature profile to a bloc to be extruded, at which the extrusion process may be optimized For that purpose, the metal blocks (10a) to be extruded are heated (furnace 2) up to an appropriate extrusion temperature for that metal, are stored at that temperature (holding chamber 3) and are chilled (chamber 5) according to regulation areas (18) in synchronism with the extrusion cycle. Regulation in the areas (18) is carried out by influencing the amount and/or temperature of the coolant, and/or cooling duration, so that an axial and radial temperature distribution is obtained at the block.

Abstract: A method for working terminal parts of materials subjected to vertical suspension type surface treatment thereby forming in the terminal parts such hook engaging parts as to be engaged with nipping devices of a carrier bar serving to convey the materials successively to a series of surface-treating baths is disclosed. This method is characterized in that the formation of the hook engaging part in the terminal part of the material is carried out at the same time that or after the step of cutting an extruded material into a fixed length is performed. The hook engaging part may be a groove, notch or hole formed in the terminal part of the fixed-length material and may be formed by a cutting or pressing work. In another embodiment, a protuberant hook engaging part is formed by welding on the surface of the terminal part of the fixed-length material while the material is in transit to a inspection table.

Abstract: Twin metal billets are fed to dual circumferential grooves formed in a rotating wheel. The billets are advanced first to a wedge-shaped gap which deforms the billets and are then advanced to a die. The die has a die opening with a circumferentially discontinuous, annular cross-section. The metal from each billet merges in the die opening and exits therefrom in the form of a slit tube. The tube is then opened and flattened to form a flat strip by advancing the slit tube over a forming member having a progressively increasing width. As the tube is advanced over the forming member, an alignment system maintaining the tube in a centered position. The alignment system includes a light source disposed within the tube and two arrays of photo-transistors arranged to receive light from the light source, the amount of light sensed by each array being a function of the position of the slit in the tube relative to a desired position.

  • Patent number: 5031436
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing an extruded profile shape from an extrusion press efficiently and economically during an extrusion operation. A first and second extrusion puller are mounted on suitable guide for movement along an extrusion line. One of the extrusion pullers receives and grips a profile shape as it is extruded from an extrusion press, and this puller exerts a pulling force on the profile shape. The first puller can pass off the profile shape to the second puller as the profile shape is extruded, thereafter the second puller would grip and pull the profile shape and the first puller would release its grip. When it is desired, or necessary to remove the profile shape from the extrusion press, the puller which is not gripping the shape grips the profile shape and a shear within the press shears off a butt portion of the billet. Then, both pullers, in tandem, apply a pulling force on the profile shape away from the extrusion press. The profile shape is stripped from the die.

Abstract: Method, control, and apparatus for taking up a billet produced in an extrusion or tube-making press includes applying a controlled pull-away tractive force, which keeps the emerging billet straight and does not affect the formation of the billet, increasing the pull-away tractive force in proportion to the extruded billet length, unit length weight and coefficient of friction between the billet and the delivery table, superimposing the pull-away tractive force upon the take-up tractive force determined from the cross-section and flow behavior in the die. After a billet has been separated and withdrawn from the die, the pull-away force and the length of the emerging billet are measured and the pull-away force, divided by the billet length, is entered as a set value for the specific profile frictional force to be multiplied by the billet length, which is determined by a path measurement, when extruding a subsequent billet of the same nominal cross section.
