  • Patent number: 6748783
Abstract: A bend/cut-off gauge includes a hanger having a first portion adapted to engage at least one track feature on the anvil member of a sheet bending brake, and a second portion extending from the first portion so as to be cantilevered from the anvil member adjacent to the sheet material clamp surface on the base member of the brake. An abutment stop is disposed on the second portion of the hanger for engagement by an edge of sheet material resting on the clamp surface. The width of the sheet material between the edge of the anvil member and the abutment stop is thus accurately gauged. The gauge may then be removed from the anvil member, and the bend member operated to bend an accurately gauged strip of material over the anvil member, or the cutter mechanism operated along the track feature(s) on the anvil member to sever an accurately gauged strip of material from the sheet stock clamped between the anvil member and the base member.

Abstract: In a machine for automatically bending a material into the outside skin of a channel letter, a desired configuration of the channel letter is input into a control computer. The computer controls the feed of the strip of metal into the machine for the bending of the metal into the outside skin. Feed assemblies feed the material along a material feed path of the machine. A notching station notches the edge of the material where necessary for purposes of forming flanges in the material and bending the material. A subsequent flange forming station forms the flanges on the edge of the material, when desired. A bending assembly bends the strip of material into the desired form, with the bending arm moving from one side to the other of the material as necessary. The material is cut at a cutting station immediately preceding the bending assembly when the length of the material needed for the formation of the outside skin has been fed to the appropriate point at the cutting station along the material feed path.

Abstract: A process of forming a one piece weld free endoscopic shaver blade from an elongate metal cylindrical tube includes first cutting the tube first distal end to a predefined opening shape. A mandrel is inserted into the longitudinal tube with its working end adjacent the tube distal end. The tube distal end is further supported and a first die is forced thereon in a direction generally perpendicular to the elongate tube and forming the tube end and defining a shaver blade opening. A second die is forced onto the tube first distal end in a direction generally parallel to the tube longitudinal further forming the tube end and shaver blade opening. The formed shaver blade opening is then machined or edgeformed as needed to a final shaver blade opening and perimeter shape.

The rod is held in place between a pair of die segments (11) such that its end (26) of a preset length, including the tip protrudes from an upper surface (14) of the segments. • Patent number: 5463890
Abstract: An automatic bending apparatus for bending a band-shaped work at a plurality of positions in sequence with intermittent feed of the work in a longitudinal direction thereof. The bending apparatus includes a swingable work holder for holding the work and a fixed bending jig for bending the work in cooperation with the work holder. The work projecting from an outlet of a passage formed in the holder is pressed against the jig by swinging the holder to approach it toward the jig. After bending the work, the holder is returned to a neutral position, and the work is fed to be projected from the outlet, then repeating the above operation. In marking the work with a cutter, a cutting sound detecting device such as a microphone is provided to detect whether the cutter has come into contact with the edge of the work. Further, a depth of cutting from the edge of the work is controlled to be constant on the basis of a timing of detection of the cutting sound.

Abstract: A plurality of notches are formed in one or both ends of long pieces of sheet metal by means of a notched template and a notching tool. The notches establish the break lines on the pieces. The side edge of a sheet metal bending brake is provided with an attachment having a pointed notch receiving and locating edge intersecting the bending axis of the brake which automatically positions the stock for bending. After a bend is made on a break line, the stock is repositioned and another notch used to self-align the stock on another break line. By turning the stock over, notches in the other end can be used to position and locate a break line to perform breaks in an opposite bending direction. Labor cost is greatly reduced, waste due to improper positioning is reduced, and more accurate reproducible bends produce greater uniformity in the finished pieces.
