  • Patent number: 7530251
Abstract: A method of fabricating an annular component part is disclosed wherein press forming is carried out to prepare an annular body having a cylindrical wall, having a root portion and a distal end, and an annular flange portion. The fabricating method comprises expanding an inner circumferential periphery of the cylindrical wall to an inner diameter corresponding to an inner diametric concave portion formed on the inner circumferential periphery and squeezing the cylindrical wall in a tapered profile such that the inner diameter of the cylindrical wall gradually decreases. During inner diametric expanding operation, an annular shoulder is formed on the inner circumferential periphery of the cylindrical wall and plays a role as an undercut of the annular component.

  • Patent number: 7231799
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for producing a workpiece with internal toothing, especially an internal geared wheel, by using a cup shaped preform (N) with a substantially cylindrical side wall (N1) and a mandrel (5) with an external profile (6) according to the internal toothing to be produced, as well as with a forming tool which reduces the outside diameter of the cylindrical side wall during an advancing movement, as a result of which the material of the cylinder wall region flows into the external profile (6) of the mandrel (5). In accordance with the invention, the forming tool is configured as a drawing ring (14) ensuring the ironing of the cylinder wall region (N1) during an advancing movement and that two tool elements act upon the preform (N) during the ironing, which tool elements produce axial compressive stresses in the cylinder wall region (N1) of the preform.

  • Patent number: 6830419
Abstract: A dome of a domed aerosol can end is initially formed and then a crown of the can end is formed so that material flow within a workpiece from which the can end is formed is controlled to substantially eliminate wrinkling problems associated with the use of sheet material which is thinner than conventionally used, for example double reduced steel. The peripheral portion of the workpiece is initially clamped between a blank punch and a draw pad, and also between a knockout and a crown ring. An outer first portion of the dome is then formed by an outer redraw sleeve and a dome form die. An inner second portion of the dome is next formed by a dome punch and the dome form die. There may be limited contact of the dome punch with the workpiece during formation of the first portion of the dome and the workpiece may also be clamped between the outer redraw sleeve and the dome form die during formation of the second dome portion.

  • Patent number: 6422053
Abstract: A method of forming a ratchet wheel adapted to be disposed in at least one end of the ratchet wrench for engaging an element to be turned, includes the step of providing a wheel blank having a generally hollow, cylindrical body formed with a radially projecting rib located midway between an upper hub portion and a lower hub portion, the upper hub portion being integrally formed with an upstanding lip having a diameter equal to or slightly smaller than the diameter of the upper hub portion. The method also includes the step of bending the lip inwardly to form a retention ring adapted to engage the upper surface of the element to be turned and prevent the element from slipping through the wheel of the ratchet wrench.

  • Patent number: 6233999
Abstract: A method is provided for forming spline teeth on the walls of a press-formed sheet-metal article on which two peripheral walls of different diameters are disposed in a continuous manner via a step portion by means of a die with a plurality of steps of ironing surfaces, and a punch having a plurality of corresponding ironing surfaces. The punch is provided with a first punch and a second punch which are arranged in a split manner. The second punch first irons teeth on the larger diameter peripheral wall. While the first punch is next used to iron teeth on the smaller diameter peripheral wall, at least some of the pressurizing force on the second punch is maintained to avoid the creation of flaws in the step portion of the sheet metal article.
