  • Patent number: 10194957
Abstract: Devices and methods for bending or cutting implants are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, an instrument can convert a rotational input force (e.g., supplied by a powered driver tool) into movement of a first rod holder with respect to a second rod holder. Such movement can form a bend in a rod or other implant held by the first and second rod holders. Various mechanisms for converting this movement are disclosed, such as a worm drive mechanism and a conical gear mechanism, as are various types of rod holders, including orbiting rollers, lid-type rod holders, fixed and pivoting half-pipe rod holders, and full-pipe rod holders. In some embodiments, the instrument can also be used for cutting, for example by rotating a cutting wheel with respect to a cutting plate to cut a rod or other implant inserted through openings formed in the cutting wheel and the cutting plate.

  • Patent number: 9975161
Abstract: In a tool storing device handling a tool mounting stocker in which a punch and a die of a press brake are mounted in one stocker with rear surfaces facing each other, each of the stockers is supported on both sides by endless belts having one driving shaft, and the endless belts are circulated so that each of the supported stockers does not protrude to a worker side, whereby a position of a path line of the appropriate one of the stockers can be freely positioned at a position of the path line PL of a tool holder on the press brake side. This enables rapid and easy tool replacement by a bending robot by storing not only the tool made of the punch and the die but also the hand for the robot together.

  • Patent number: 9868144
Abstract: A bending die for pre-bending a workpiece section includes a die section with a slot for partially receiving a bending punch for hemming a workpiece section during hemming, the slot leading from a bearing surface into the interior of the bending die, and a hemming section, arranged laterally with respect thereto, with a hemming surface. The bending punch includes a punch section (12) extending from a punch base surface and a hemming section, arranged laterally thereto, with a hemming surface. In this case, the hemming surface on the bending die is set back in a step-like manner with respect to a bearing surface of the die section, with the result that a stop surface extending from the bearing surface to the hemming surface is formed and the hemming section on the bending punch protrudes with respect to the punch base surface in the direction of the punch tip, with the result that the hemming surface protrudes in a step-like manner with respect to the punch base surface.

Abstract: A thin plate-shaped substrate molding device for pressing molding a pre-molded article to a prescribed irregular shape. The thin plate-shaped substrate molding device comprises a first die, a second die, a plurality of tensioning portions and a controller. The first and second dies are movably disposed to be moved towards and away from each other. The second die has protruding portions that protrude towards the first die for forming stretched portions and forming bent portions. The controller controls the first die, the second die and the tensioning portions. The bent portions are tensioned and stretched by the tensioning portions, while the stretched portions of the pre-molded article are still pressed by the first die and the protruding portions of the second die, to impart the shape of the protruding portions to the pre-molded article along the side edges of the protruding portions.

  • Patent number: 5117670
Abstract: A press brake system for bending, flanging, folding and forming an elongate and curved worksheet, and a worksheet handling device for handling such a worksheet are disclosed. The press brake system includes a press brake including a punch and a matrix which cooperate along a bending line in a working plane, and members for straightening an elongate and curved worksheet. The worksheet handling device includes members for straightening an elongate and curved worksheet. Such straightening members include: forcing members for applying force to the worksheet at central portion or end portions of a longitudinal edge, the force being in a direction perpendicular to the bending line and within a loading plane; and fixing members for fixing the worksheet so that it can not move against the force. This design enables the system to carry out appropriate bending or flanging to obtain a work with flanges of constant width along bending lines.

  • Patent number: 5062288
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for forming bends in a tube. A set of bend forming elements are mounted on each of a pair of parallel guideways. Each set of bend forming elements are interconnected by lazy tongs and a motor is provided to drive each set of bend forming elements along the guideways so that each set of bend forming elements may be moved together or separated while maintaining equal spacing between the elements. When a straight tube is placed between the sets of bend forming elements and the bend forming elements are driven together while the guideways simultaneously are driven apart, bends are formed in the tube to form the tube into a serpentine configuration. The bend forming elements have at least two different curvatures on their external surfaces so that the bends in the tube are formed in two stages with each of the different curvatures being sequentially operative to form the final bends in the tube.

  • Patent number: 5022129
Abstract: Disclosed is a crankshaft forming apparatus and method which has forming heads for forming throw sections at any angle 360.degree. about the rotational axis of the crankshaft and orienting the full length of the throw sections of the crankshaft. The throws are checked for parallelism to the rotational axis of the crankshaft. By turning suitable actuators such as screws, the forming heads are pivoted about a vertical and/or horizontal axis to adjust the throw formation relative to the longitudinal axis. In this manner, each forming head may be adjusted in position until all of the respective throws being formed are parallel to the rotational axis of the crankshaft. Also provided is a toggle mechanism which clamps tightly a rod being formed and opens and closes the clamping units for insertion and removal of the rod.

  • Patent number: 4805438
Abstract: An improved hemming die fixture, used in conjunction with a sheet metal press, is disclosed. The fixture is attachable to the ram, or ram assembly, of a metal press and carries with it a hemming die. The fixture is automatically displacable between working and standby positions. When not in use, the hemming die fixture is placed in a standby position wherein it is placed parallel to the ram of the press, and away from a primary die on the bottom of the ram. When required, the fixture may be actuated to place a hemming die parallel to, and below, the primary die located along the bottom of the ram. The hemming die then coacts with the work table, or second flat hemming die, of the press to form a hem along a longitudinal edge of a piece of sheet metal in a plane other than the plane in which a full bend is first formed along the edge of the sheet metal.
