  • Patent number: 11723652
Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, systems, and methods for guiding a needle to facilitate suturing, such as in surgical anastomosis. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus includes a frame configured to counter-rotatably support two generally parallel rollers. A first roller supported by the frame has a flat surface configured to rollably engage a first face of a shaft of a helically-shaped needle. A second roller supported by the frame has a grooved surface defining a helical groove is configured to at least partially receive a second face of the shaft. The second roller further defines a correcting recess bounded by lateral surfaces at a forward end of the groove that tapers to a width of the groove at the forward end. When the leading end is received into the correcting recess, at least one of the lateral surfaces engages and guides the leading end into the forward end of the groove.

  • Patent number: 4252011
Abstract: The present invention provides a technique for improving the dimensional accuracy of forged components. Uniformity of like component details is sought and a specific object is to provide a die package for forming closely toleranced appendages integrally with a central disk structure from which the appendages extend. In one effective embodiment incorporating concepts of the present invention, the forging dies include a stationary die 26 and a moveable die 28 which are mounted on a common axis and a plurality of arcuate die segments 30 which are adjacently placed in cylindrical array about the stationary and moveable dies. The arcuate die segments form cavities of the inverse geometry of the appendages to be formed and are interlocked to prevent tilting of the segments in the die package. A collar 40 extends from the stationary die to interlocking engagement with a channel 46 in the inwardly facing surface of each arcuate die segment.

  • Patent number: 4236295
Abstract: A method of making cylindrical rotor coil for use in coreless motors is provided whereby the coil is of a reduced thickness with compressed coil turns enabling the stator magnetic gap distance to be reduced, thus enabling a higher flux density to be utilized highly efficiently in the gap. A force is applied to a cylindrically wound coil of an insulation coated wire so as to act in its radial directions and against at least one of the inner and outer peripheries of the cylindrical coil, whereby respective turns of the wire are compressed together and flattened on the plane defining the respective peripheries. The force application is preferably repeated while varying the relative position of the cylindrical coil in its peripheral directions to the applied force.

  • Patent number: 4229962
Abstract: The pitch of worn chain links is restored to original manufacturers' dimensions by decreasing their overall lengths. Concentrated heat is applied across a selected section at the center area of a link, and force is applied longitudinally to the ends of the link to compress the heated portion. The decrease in length at the heated and compressed section compensates for wear on the inside surfaces of the ends of the links that normally contact the connecting pins.

  • Patent number: 4205544
Abstract: Corrugated pipe is bent by pinching the spiral corrugations on one side of the pipe to decrease their pitch and increase their amplitude as compared to the undeformed corrugations on the opposite side of the pipe, thereby shortening the pipe on one side. A machine for effecting deformation of the corrugations includes inner and outer clamp mechanisms which provide an inner spiral rib extending partially around the inside of the pipe and a pair of outer spiral ribs extending partially around the outside of the pipe. The clamps include hinged together clamp sections which are pivoted by hydraulic cylinders between a pipe engaging position for bending the pipe and a release position permitting advancement of the pipe. The cylinders drive the outer ribs toward one another as well as inwardly into grooves of the corrugations where their force is opposed by the inner rib which acts against the inside pipe surface at a ridge of the corrugation.

  • Patent number: 4157026
Abstract: First and second gripping heads consisting of a manipulator and a holder-up, respectively, are disposed on opposite sides of a swaging box. First and second sleeves are rotatably mounted in said first and second gripping heads, respectively and aligned on a horizontal axis which extends through said swaging box. A mandrel is non-rotatably and axially immovably mounted in said first sleeve and adapted to carry a tubular workpiece surrounding said mandrel. First and second abutments are carried by said first and second gripping sleeves, respectively, and have first and second annular gripping surfaces, respectively. Axial drive means serve to move said first gripping head along said horizontal axis toward said swaging box and to simultaneously move said second gripping head in the same direction.

  • Patent number: 4074408
Abstract: A vehicle wheel assembly and method and apparatus for making the assembly in which an outer tire rim and wheel center are fabricated into a secure one-piece unit. Secure attachment and restraint of the two components into one unit are accomplished through a dimpling process in which both components are nested together at a plurality of points through stamping. While very applicable to a steel rim or steel center wheel construction, the invention is adapted for use on several metallic wheel constructions to avoid pneumatic leakage associated with riveting or problems arising from welding of the two components. A fixture and hydraulically operated tool construction utilizes male and female tooling to accomplish the dimpling process in which regions of the wheel rim and center are deformed by force to nest together.
