  • Patent number: 11142967
Abstract: There is provided a wrench for a workpiece having a wrench head with a fixed jaw element and an adjustable jaw element opposite the fixed jaw element, the fixed jaw element and the adjustable jaw element defining a workpiece engagement area that receives and engages the workpiece. The fixed jaw element and the adjustable jaw element are connected by a pin and slot connection that permits movement of the adjustable jaw element relative to the fixed jaw element to adjust the size of the workpiece engagement area. A removable die is provided that engages the slot to restrict the movement of the pin along the slot and define a maximum size of the workpiece engagement area. An articulated actuator actuates the wrench head to apply torque to the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 8667656
Abstract: A punching tool for attaching adjacent steel deck panels along a side-lapped seam positions first and second jaws on one side of the seam, and positions third, fourth and fifth jaws on the other side. An actuator compresses the two sets of jaws; blades on the ends of such jaws shear the seam to create two louvers extending in one direction separated by a third louver extending in the other direction. The first jaw blade passes between the third and fourth jaw blades, and the second jaw blade passes between the fourth and fifth jaw blades. The blades are tapered to prevent binding upon release. The blades may include semi-cylindrical punching portions, and can be formed as detachable inserts coupled to the jaws, as by dovetail joints. The jaws may be made of a metal having a hardness rating less than that of the detachable blade inserts.

  • Patent number: 8567034
Abstract: The invention relates to a compression tool (2) for the permanent connection of workpieces (14, 16, 18, 30, 34) having two pivot elements (4), which each have a compression jaw (10), and having at least one rotational axis (6), on which the pivot elements (4) are hinged, wherein the inner contours of the opposing compression jaws (10) form a receiving area (12). The present invention is based on the technical problem of disclosing an alternative compression tool (2), with which a permanent connection can be provided between workpieces (14, 16, 18, 30, 34) by axial compression. The technical problem is solved in that the inner contours have at least one sliding face (22), which is inclined relative to the receiving area axis (20). A compression tool (2) can thus be provided which, starting from a radial inward movement, performs a compression in the axial direction, nonetheless requires little installation space, and offers weight advantages due to a smaller axial extension, for example.

  • Patent number: 8474299
Abstract: A crimping tool has crimping dies arranged in a star shape directed at a crimping region and subjected to rotational action radially outwards for the crimping movement by means of an actuating part. The crimping dies are mounted about an axis of rotation transversely to the longitudinal extent thereof for pivoting-in and form an abutment region on the crimping region side of the axis of rotation. A radial movement and/or circumferential movement is brought about to coincide with the rotational action on the crimping dies, in order to obtain abutment of a crimping die in the abutment region thereof against the counter-abutment region of another crimping die adjacent to the crimping die in the pivoting direction or counter-pivoting direction.

  • Patent number: 8087280
Abstract: The invention relates to pliers for changing the distance of two activation surfaces of a connection or fitting for conduits. The change of the distance correlates with an elastic or plastic deformation of at least one component of the fitting including a radial crimping process. The inventive pliers comprise two hand levers linked by a transfer mechanism with two spreading jaws. According to the invention, a closing movement of the hand levers results in a spreading movement of the spreading jaws. Such spreading movement of the spreading jaws is used for plastically deforming at least one of the components of the connection by a radial crimping process.

Abstract: A method and a device for bending a metal hollow thick walled member to a predetermined angle without deviation of the bending center position and without separation from a half die when presser die moves up. With a pair of guide plates (GP1 and GP2) turnably attached to a center pin CP kept horizontal and the axis center of the center pin intersecting with the axis center of the metal hollow thick walled member PM, the member PM is mounted on a half die (82a). When die holding members (80a and 80b) fixedly connected to the above guide plates and kept horizontal are inclined and separated from each other as the center pin lowers, the member PM is bent to the predetermined angle and held on the half die (82b). When the center pin that can be moved vertically by a guide member moves down to a predetermined position, a contact portion (96b) contacts the inclined surface of a stopper (92b) to allow a base plate (16) to receive a pressing force from an upper die via the stopper.

  • Patent number: 6474130
Abstract: Pliers for crimping work pieces include a pliers head and two pivot jaws (3, 4) being arranged in the region of the pliers head. A common joint (5) pivotally connects the two pivot jaws (3, 4). Two dies forming a crimping die (8) for crimping the work piece are arranged at the two pivot jaws (3, 4). Two handles (1, 2) are connected to the pivot jaws (3, 4), and they each include an end portion (20, 23) facing away from the pliers head. At least one of the handles (1, 2) is divided into at least two portions (21, 22). The handles (1, 2) are designed and arranged to be movable with respect to one another and to be operable to crimp the work piece in a few crimping steps. One portion (22) of the divided handle (1, 2) is coupled to the other portion (21) in a plurality of different angle positions each corresponding to one crimping step in a way that the end portions (20, 23) may be held and operated by the fingers of one hand of the operator in each angle position of each crimping step.

  • Patent number: 6289712
Abstract: Pliers for crimping work pieces include a first stationary handle (1) and a second movable handle (2). The first and second handle (1, 2) are designed and arranged to be movable with respect to one another and to be operable by one hand. A first pivot jaw (3) is connected to the first stationary handle (1) to form a stationary pliers portion. A second pivot (4) jaw is connected to the second movable handle (2). The first and second pivot jaw (3,4) each includes at least two parallel plates (43, 33; 45, 46) extending symmetrically to a plane of main extension (19) of the pliers. A common joint (5) pivotally connects the stationary pliers portion to the second pivot jaw (4). A first die (32) is designed as a semi shell (34) and to be insertable into the first pivot jaw (3). A second die (33) is designed as a semi shell (35) and to be insertable into the second pivot jaw (4).

Abstract: A power assisted combination shear used for forming structural louvers in the crimped seam of structural steel decking comprises a frame supporting a pair of jaws which are opened and closed by means of an operator-controlled pneumatic cylinder. One jaw terminates in a blade and the other jaw has a corresponding die member. The blade and die have undercut reliefs in the root portions, which permit the louver to be formed without breaking through to the edge of the seam. The louver comprises a sheared portion in the form of a bowed tab bridging a corresponding window formed in the seam by the shearing of the tab. The interference between the louver and window provides a substantial increase in the lateral resistance (shear strength) of the crimped seam, thereby obviating the need to additionally weld or screw the seam to provide the necessary shear strength for even the highest stress applications.
