Electrical Connector Patents (Class 72/409.14)
  • Patent number: 6769173
Abstract: An electrical connector crimping die comprises a first section for removably connecting the die to an electrical connector compression tool. A second section of the die, which is connected to the first section, is provided for crimping a connector. The second section comprises a generally concave crimp projection of a given height which defines a primary crimp surface and at least one concave shaped secondary pre-crimp surface. The secondary pre-crimp surface is recessed relative to the primary crimp surface by the given height. The primary crimp surface and the secondary pre-crimp surface are arranged relative to the first section so that a major portion of a crimping force applied by the compression tool to the crimping die is applied to the primary crimp surface to crimp a first portion of the connector and so that a minor portion of the crimping force is applied to the secondary pre-crimp surface to pre-crimp a second portion of the connector. A hydraulic crimping tool employs such a crimping die.

  • Patent number: 6708396
Abstract: A hand-held tool for terminating connectors onto a coaxial cable has an elongated body and an end stop and plunger on the body, the plunger being controlled by a lever arm which will axially advance the plunger toward and away from the end stop to radially compress a portion of the connector into firm crimping engagement with the end of the coaxial cable. To accommodate different lengths of connectors, a receiver is resiliently mounted on the plunger for insertion of different length adapter tips to vary the axial spacing between the receiver and the end stop according to the length of connector being terminated; and in still another form the body may include a hinged adapter adjacent to the end stop to vary the effective distance between the end stop and plunger according to the length of fitting being terminated.

  • Patent number: 6671944
Abstract: Hand held tools have been devised for preparing and crimping cables and specifically coaxial cables for television, a first form of tool made up of a low profile body having a main channel with a threaded crimping bolt for crimping circular fittings by axial compression onto the end of the cable, and a second form has a main channel which utilizes the same crimping bolt to carry out hexagonal crimping operations; and both forms have a channel for preparing each cable end for the crimping operation in which stripper blades are pivotally mounted for movement into engagement with the cable end to strip away one or more layers of the cable under the control of an adjustable limit stop which regulates the depth of penetration of each blade.

  • Patent number: 6415499
Abstract: A tool for stripping the jacket, conductive braid and dielectric layer of a coaxial cable to the correct length required for attachment to a coaxial cable connector, and for attaching the stripped end of the coaxial cable to a coaxial cable connector by means of crimping. The stripping portion of the tool has a dual blade cutter that has preset blade separation, fixed cutting depths, and includes preset spring pressure to insure a complete cut. The tool further includes means for applying the force needed to hexagonally crimp a compression crimp ring having a length of up to ½ inch on a standard coaxial cable connector in order to attach the connector to the stripped cable. The invention provides an economical tool, and method for using the tool, for hex crimping a compression crimp ring of up to ½ inch in length on standard coaxial cable connectors.

  • Patent number: 6272738
Abstract: Hand operated press for installing cable connectors basically includes two handle bars; a receptacle; and a nose, wherein each handle bar has a grip at its lower end and compression part at its upper end. The receptacle and the base are fixed to receptacle compression parts, and a terminator and an adapter are set on the receptacle and the base. When a compressive force is applied between two grips, both receptacle and base move inward simultaneously so as to engage the adapter and the terminator in one piece. Moreover, the receptacle and the base are replaceable with various sized ones to meet the requirement of compressing terminators of different sizes.
