With Means To Selectably Control Movement Of Tool Patents (Class 72/441)
  • Patent number: 4148137
Abstract: Method of making at least two different electrical interconnections with at least two wires extending from windings supported on a dynamoelectric machine core. The method includes moving the core, windings, and at least two wires toward a wire connecting device; orienting and positioning a first one of the at least two wires relative to the device; and thereby conditioning the device to establish a first one of at least two different connection configurations. A first electrical interconnection involving a first wire and having a first connection configuration is formed. A second winding lead then is oriented and positioned relative to the device, thereby to condition the device to form an interconnection having a second connection configuration, and such interconnection is made. Indicia that indicate the relative orientation of the stator assembly (or parts thereof) are utilized to condition the device to establish connections of desired different configurations.

  • Patent number: 4130005
Abstract: A method and apparatus of cold forming is disclosed for improving die life. During a first phase a workpiece is initially engaged between a pair of dies with a sufficiently low force and velocity level to reduce die errosion but with a sufficiently high level to produce limited deformation of the workpiece and provide an area of mating engagement between the workpiece and the tool and die. During a second phase the workpiece is subjected to substantially higher deforming force and velocity levels and is further deformedto the desired shape. Such area of mating engagement is sufficiently large to reduce errosion producing localized pressures on the tool and die during such second phase. The disclosed machine is a ball header with the movable die mounted directly on the machine frame rather than on the reciprocating slide. The position of the movable die is controlled by a cam driven pusher so that the movable die position is independent of the position of the reciprocating slide.

  • Patent number: 4039111
Abstract: An automatic nailing machine for fabricating wooden pallets. The device has a hammer pin support bar vertically movable within a frame and horizontally aligned by a first horizontal alignment bar mounted on the frame. A nail feed and support bar is mounted below the hammer pin support bar, is moved upwardly when the hammer pin support bar is moved to its uppermost position, moves downwardly with said hammer pin support bar when said hammer pin support bar begins its downward travel and then remains stationary as the hammer pin support bar continues its downward movement. A plurality of hammer pins are mounted on the hammer pin support bar and cooperate with a plurality of nail holding devices mounted on the nail feed and support bar. The nail feed and support bar is horizontally aligned by a bar affixed to the frame and lined to the nail feed and support bar.

  • Patent number: 4037458
Abstract: This invention provides a method and device for eliminating vibration and for silencing noise caused during operation of a crank-driven press tool. A brake operates on the crank shaft of the press tool from just before to just after the termination of the press stroke, thereby preventing the kinetic energy of the mechanical components and metal mold from being reduced instantaneously to zero and thus preventing the generation of vibration and noise usually occurring during press work in a crank-driven press tool.

  • Patent number: 4035896
Abstract: A device for crimping conductors into the contact members of a contact strip. According to the invention there is provided a motor driven means for two crimping jaws movable relative to each other, and feeding means for stepwise advancing the contact strip in increments corresponding to the distance between the contacts to feed one contact to the crimping jaws in each operational cycle. An actuating device, which can be controllably manipulated by the operator, actuates the feeding means advancing the contact strip and, in a second position, effects the crimping operation and the return of the feeding means to the initial position.

  • Patent number: 3967483
Abstract: A device is disclosed for positioning the slide of a press to compensate for insufficiencies of the stroke. A predetermined preload is first adjusted to the slide to take up clearances which may be present between the various moving parts of the press, dies and material to be processed. A slide preload compensating amount is then additionally adjusted to the slide equivalent to the amount of deformation of compression which the slide and frame will undergo during a working stroke. Therefore, the vertical position of the slide is established with the insufficiencies of the stroke eliminated.

  • Patent number: 3948077
Abstract: The forging press has a horizontal drive shaft on which is carried an eccentric body linked to a vertical force-transmitting block whose lower surface lies at an angle to the horizontal and flushly engages the top of a horizontally reciprocal wedge whose bottom surface lies on the hammer. Interfitting ridges and grooves interconnect the wedge, the force-transmission block, and the hammer so that the hammer hangs from the wedge and the wedge from the force-transmission block. A spindle threaded into the wedge is rotatable to establish its horizontal position, and, therefore, to set the relative position of the force-transmission block in the hammer. At its other end this spindle is provided with a piston reciprocal in a horizontally extending hydraulic chamber which is maintained under a predetermined pressure. The threshold at which the wedge may slip to the side and protect the hammer from overloading is established by the pressure in this hydraulic cylinder.

  • Patent number: 3946585
Abstract: The invention concerns a device to be applied to a lathe for spinning, comprising a carriage that is motor driven and movable along guides substantially parallel to the lathe axis, and a tool connected to an arm carried by the said carriage, in which the said tool-bearing arm is pivotally connected on one side to a lever that is manipulated by the operator, and on the other side is linked to a hydraulic cylinder, whose action on the tool is concordant with that of the lever and in which the pressure within a chamber and the outlet of fluid therefrom determine the thrust exerted by the said cylinder on the tool-bearing arm, said lever transmitting the operator effort to the said arm through the sliding piston of a valve which, under said effort, progressively throttles, against the pressure of the incoming fluid, an inlet port coaxial with said piston and communicating with said chamber of said hydraulic cylinder in order to regulate the pressure in said chamber and the outlet of fluid therefrom.

  • Patent number: 3939686
Abstract: A wedge actuated cutting and/or forming tool comprises a frame including spaced guide portions. A fixed platen is mounted on the frame and a movable platen is mounted on the guide portions of the frame for reciprocation toward and away from the fixed platen. A wedge is supported for lateral reciprocation with respect to a backup and thereby effects reciprocation of the movable platen. The wedge is driven by a hydraulic cylinder and switch means are provided for regulating both the separation between the movable platen and the fixed platen at the closest point and the total stroke of the movable platen. The frame further includes a hydraulic reservoir which receives a substantial quantity of hydraulic fluid. By this means the structure of the reservoir and the hydraulic fluid therein tend to stabalize the tool and dampen vibrations caused by the operation thereof.
