  • Patent number: 8424360
Abstract: A hydraulic cylinder is provided which allows for a mount plate, or the like, to be moved between three positions. The mount plate can be positively positioned in any one of three different positions by appropriately supplying or removing pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydraulic fluid ports on the cylinder. The provision of appropriate positive stops corresponding to each desired position avoids the necessity for complex and/or expensive hydraulic control mechanisms. The cylinder is believed to be particularly suited for performing piercing operations, involving a negative pierce, in hydro-forming operations.

  • Publication number: 20090249856
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming cup-shaped members used in conjunction with a single-acting or a double-acting press having an outer punch assembly, an inner punch assembly and a base. A draw pad and a cutting edge are carried on the outer punch assembly, a draw horn is carried on the inner punch assembly and a blank and draw die is carried on the base. The draw pad and the draw horn oppose the blank and draw die such that the draw pad clampingly engages the blank and draw die in order to exert a clamping pressure on the pressure piston system having first and second pistons vertically stacked with respect to one another. The pressure piston system includes a damping member located within the pressure piston system for continuously increasing the clamping pressure during advancement of the outer punch assembly toward the base of the press.

  • Patent number: 7107814
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for pneumatically operating a tool which can be driven by means of pressure, such especially, pneumatic pliers. The device has a cylinder comprising one or more pneumatically operated, nonpositively fitted pistons arranged in a row, for generating a translatory force. The respective piston rods of the pistons are sealed against the preceding piston and guided in cylinder covers by means of a seal, such as a lip seal. Components such as a wedge piston are functionally connected to the pistons, said wedge piston being coupled to a cuneiform wedge, for transferring the translatory force and for operating the tool. The pistons are supported by at least one piston guidance strip, in the direction against the inner wall of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6240758
Abstract: A hydraulic machine for operation such as for pressurizing a workpiece and molding products from materials by using a reciprocation mechanism comprising a hydraulic cylinder unit. The cylinder unit comprises two types cylinder chambers having different cross-sectional areas, and a third or plural cylinder chambers. Hydraulic oil sent out from a hydraulic pump driven by a servo motor, is fed through a hydraulic circuit into the cylinder unit. The shifting position of the reciprocation movement is detected, and path switching in the hydraulic circuit and revolving operation of the servo motor are controlled on the basis of the detected shifting position. In case the reciprocation movement is used for pressurizing a workpiece by a die, the hydraulic oil is fed to the cylinder chamber for forward of small cross-sectional area until slightly before the die comes into contact against the workpiece, and the die shifts at high speed relative to a workpiece.
