    Abstract: A mandrel collector includes a case body and an end plate. The case body has a connecting end for being connected to a rivet gun. The end plate is engaged with the case body and is opposite to the connecting end. The end plate has at least one receiving hole, wherein a hole section of the receiving hole is a hexagonal hole with six walls. The walls include three first walls and three second walls. Each of the first walls is connected between adjacent two of the second walls. The hole section is defined to have a central axis and a reference plane perpendicular to the central axis. On the reference plane, a side length of at least one of the first walls is smaller than side lengths of the second walls. With such design, the receiving hole could receive a head of an adapter and could rotate the adapter as a screwdriver.

The cylinder includes a first gas hole and a second gas hole. The first gas hole is connected to the first air chamber, and the second gas hole is connected to the second air chamber. The piston is adapted to slide in the cylinder to generate inner high pressure gas by alternatively supplying outer high pressure gas to the first gas hole or the second gas hole. The tube is connected to the gun header and the cylinder. The tube transmits inner high pressure from the cylinder to the gun header.

    Abstract: A tool for setting blind fasteners is disclosed. A stem of a fastener is engaged by a pulling head and its sleeve is also engaged by the pulling head. In an initial stage, a pump piston compresses fluid in a hydraulic pump, affecting movement of a drawbar and piston in relation to a stationary adaptor connected to the tool, pulling the stem in relation to the sleeve at a fast rate per pump. As the pulling force increases, pressure in the pump triggers a logic system to shift the tool into a high pressure mode, decreasing the effort to complete fastener installation. The logic system resets after each squeeze of the lever, minimizing the number of pumps necessary to complete the installation while keeping effort at a comfortable level. An adjustable pressure relief valve allows the fluid to return to the reservoir chamber, returning the tool to its initial condition.

High-pressure air from an air source connected to the rivet gun is output only during the ejection operation of the rivet gun to prevent unnecessary air consumption and noise.

    Abstract: A low swage load fastening system is provided for installing swage-type fasteners to secure a plurality of workpieces together. The fastener includes a pin member having an elongated pin shank to be located in aligned openings in the workpieces. An enlarged head at one end of the pin engages one side of the workpieces. A grooved pin portion extends past an opposite side of the workpieces. A collar includes a shank portion adapted to be swaged into the pin lock grooves in response to a relative axial swage load applied by an installation tool. As one aspect of the system, the collar is as-headed and does not require thermal processing yet provides an optimum balance of reduced collar shank wall thickness and increased hardness, whereby the swage load is minimized. A low swage load thread form for the lock grooves of the pin is also provided, a reduced diameter, relatively short pull portion pin extension, installation tool improvements, and an associated method of use are also disclosed.

The nut-plate riveter provides that spent mandrels are pulled through the tool, thereby avoiding problems in the field. Cavities are proximate the pistons for pressurizing the pistons, and air supply passages are in communication with the cavities for supplying air to the cavities to pressurize the pistons. A piston rod is engaged with at least one of the pistons, and the piston rod has a longitudinal bore therethrough which is configured to receive a spent mandrel. A deflector fitting may be disposed at an end of the nut-plate riveter.

A first supply of pressurized gas communicates with a first end of the piston chamber and a second supply of pressurized gas communicates with a second end of the piston chamber for rapidly returning the air piston to the retracted position in combination with the air pressure applied to the pulling head. The second end of the piston chamber is vented to prevent to much pressure build up pushing the piston to the retracted position.
