Abstract: Multiple movable die portions (press punches) are respectively opposing to multiple fixed die portions (block members). Each of the press punches is sequentially pushed down with a predetermined time difference to the corresponding block member to continuously carry out press work to a material inserted into a press-work area between the press punches and the block members. A clearance is formed between a forward end of the press punch and a forward end of the block member at a position shortly before a press-work operating position in order to control a pulling force of the material, so that a shape distortion can be avoided.
Abstract: A solar collector array is disclosed. The array has a plurality of thin walled dishes interconnected by unitary webbing. The dishes and the webbing are formed from a single metallic sheet. Each dish is pressed into a symmetric parabolic surface that concentrates incident light to a position in front of the dish.
Abstract: A hand and mechanically activated rivet setting device uniquely and integrally designed to set multiple different types of rivets comprising tubular, semi-tubular and solid rivets made entirely or in part from aluminum, brass, steel and stainless steel having multiple different kinds of heads comprising truss, dome and flat rivet heads; in a work product consisting of pieces and components to be riveted together. The device has the means to set rivets from different positional locations within the device and provides the device operator the ability to completely control the rivet setting process, assuring precision rivet setting without damaging the pieces or components being riveted.

Abstract: In conventional ram-driven presses, the downward stroke of the ram into a tool causes acceleration of the tool, thereby facilitating an operation on a workpiece by the tip of the tool. While the ram stroke is found to impart sufficient dynamic energy to the tool to facilitate the necessitated operation by the tool tip, there are other more efficient, and in turn, more effective, means and methods of actuating the tool tip, with such means and methods being facilitated from energy derived from the tool's acceleration or from energy from other external sources.
Abstract: The invention is a multi-mode hammering machine that operates in a rigid mode, a flexible power hammer mode and a machine press mode to contour, shape and form sheet metal products. In all three modes, a ram is linearly stroked toward and away from a fixed die by a common ram drive assembly that includes a lever drive assembly and a reciprocating lever. The lever drive assembly moves in a rigid non-flexing manner. The reciprocating lever includes a rigid mode and a flexible mode. A conversion pin is used to engage one and simultaneously disengage the other. The lever drive assembly includes a control link that interfaces with a stroke adjustment mechanism. The gap adjustment mechanism is located at the fulcrum of the reciprocating lever. Both stroke length and gap are adjusted independently during the operation while the ram is cycling.
Abstract: A bending brake includes a rotating carrier that is rotatable about a rotation axis. The carrier has first and second upper jaws connected thereto at different angular locations about the rotation axis. A locking mechanism for preventing rotation of the carrier during operation of the bending brake includes an endplate forming a pocket, the endplate disposed adjacent to a distal end of the carrier. A latch having a trigger portion is pivotally connected to the endplate and located within the pocket such that the trigger portion protrudes from the pocket. A toothed cam wheel rotating with the carrier has at least one tooth formed thereon that engages the trigger portion of the latch to prevent rotation of the carrier in one direction at preselected angular positions corresponding to the first and second upper jaws.

Abstract: A pressing device for forming steel sheet blanks into clips, which comprise curved planking elements and rectilinear stringer elements for connecting a fuselage cell skin to a stringer and to an annular rib in an aircraft fuselage, comprises at least one curved upper tool, at least one curved lower tool, at least one rectilinear upper tool, and at least one rectilinear lower tool. A steel sheet blank is receivable and formable between the at least one curved upper and lower tools and the at least one rectilinear upper and lower tools. The at least one curved upper and lower tool each comprises an upper and lower convexity surface designed to essentially correspond to each other in order to form the curved planking element in a single stroke surface model forming process by simultaneously bending and stamping.
Abstract: A tab is used to open beer/beverage can ends and food can ends. The tab has one or more arcuate strips that are provided on a surface of the tab proximate to a peripheral surface of the tab where the one or more arcuate strips have been formed further into a preselected portion of curled or hemmed portions of the tab. Tooling for the manufacture of the tab is also provided. A method for manufacturing the tab is additionally provided as well.

Abstract: A curling die tool includes an upper die, a transmission, and a lower die. The upper die includes an upper-die body and a warping-bending pressure portion for a workpiece. The warping-bending pressure portion includes a punch member and is secured to the upper-die body. The transmission member includes a first supporting body corresponding to the punch member supporting the workpiece, along with a curling pressure portion. The transmission member defines a first supporting groove facing the upper die receiving the first supporting body, along with a curling-pressure-portion receiving groove opposite to the first supporting groove receiving the curling pressure portion. The lower die includes a second supporting body facing the curling pressure portion, supporting the workpiece, and defining a guiding groove and a second supporting groove receiving the second supporting body. The transmission member is movably connected to the lower die and slides along the guiding groove.

Simultaneous offsetting of the tie strap and stress relief mechanisms are provided on both the front and back sides of the lead frame. Those mechanisms include indentations along the long or primary axis of each tie strap, coupled with depressions across the top surface both at the center of the lead frame and between the base of the off set and the chip attach locations to prevent bowing in small pad and no pad lead frames, in particular.

Abstract: Process for manufacturing cold formed shaped packaging having at least one recess made from a metal-plastic laminate 20. Examples of such shaped forms of packaging are the base parts of push-through packs or blister packs. The process is such that the laminate 20 is held between a retaining tool 5 and a die 1. The die 1 exhibits at least one opening 8 and a stamping tool 6 is driven into the die opening 8 causing the laminate to be shape-formed into the said packaging and, correspondingly, exhibiting one or more recesses. The die 1 and the retaining tool 5 exhibit facing edge regions 11,12, and within the edge region 11 the die 1 exhibits a shoulder region 13 that surrounds the die opening 8 or openings 8. The surface of the shoulder region 13 lies 0.01 to 10 mm lower than the surface of the edge region 11 of the die 1.
Abstract: To roll form a worksheet by a turret punch press, at least one pair of coacting tools are mounted to the opposed turrets so that when those tools are rotated to the work location, they could be driven to a predetermined relative distance towards each other to make contact with the workpiece. The depth of the formed shape is determined by the relative distance the coacting tools are driven towards each other. By moving the worksheet at the same time that the coacting tools are making contact with the worksheet, roll forming of the worksheet is effected. By providing the coacting tools in the opposing indexing stations and synchronously rotating those stations, a complex pattern can be roll formed on a worksheet.

Thus, by moving the striker in two horizontal directions above the punches indexed in the processing region, many successive punch operations can be quickly performed without intermediate rotation of the turrets.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for conducting a secondary operation on a workpiece such as punching or flanging, after a primary forming operation has been completed while the workpiece is still in the press. Abstract: A structure for releasably securing a plurality of mold inserts to a mold plate attached to a power press machine is disclosed. The mold plate has a plurality of apertures formed therethrough. Within each aperture, a plurality of inwardly extending spaced apart protrusions are formed. The mold inserts include end portions having a plurality of tabs formed thereon. A mold insert is inserted within an aperture by aligning the tabs with the spaces between the protrusions and moving the mold insert axially therein. Then, by rotating the mold insert relative to the mold plate, the tabs are moved over the protrusions. As a result, the mold insert is retained within the aperture. Locking bars prevent rotation of the mold inserts at undesired times to prevent them from being removed from the mold plate. A locking mechanism may be used to secure the locking bars, and therefore the mold inserts, in their locked positions during use.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for straightening of cast anodes on their way to a stage for electrolytic refining of metals. The straightening of the anodes and the elimination of the casting fins is carried out by pressing the anode at several spots or spot areas simultaneously. Abstract: A press for splicing the ends of cables, ropes and the like is described. The press is of the type which utilizes an hydraulic cylinder (5) positioned vertically and resting on a base (6). An upper frame (8) comprises a plate (9) which is fixed to the hydraulic cylinder. The piston of the cylinder has a stem which protrudes from the plate. The frame additionally comprises two lateral plates (10) opposite one to the other and arranged in the shape of a "U" and an upper plate (11) which provides support pressure. Each of the lateral plates has an opening and a loader is inserted within the openings. The loader consists of two half-matrixes, which have a plurality of notches of different diameters whereby when the half-matrixes are approached one to the other a plurality of shaped openings of different diameters is formed.
Abstract: A press assembly is disclosed with a series of punch/die sets for successive operations on parts connected together in a strip. The punch/die sets are conveniently relocatable anywhere on regularly-spaced fixed stations and the stations can receive more than one punch/die set. The punches and dies in the sets can be mounted on removable base plates or otherwise made movable to any spacing, such that the sets are easily spaced to reflect a length of the parts being manufactured. The increment of strip feed between operations of the press is also adjustable. The press assembly can therefore be inexpensively set up to make parts of any characteristic length.

The cam bearing thus radially supports the cam and the drive shaft so that the drive shaft can be relatively slender and light.
Abstract: A press machine is disclosed which is provided with a plurality of press dies fixedly secured on a bolster. The machine has a vertically reciprocable frame member with a predetermined constant stroke, which carries a plurality of pressure plates cooperating with the die, respectively. Each pressure plate is axially movable with respect to the frame member and threadedly connected with a spacer plate arranged between the frame member and the pressure plate. The shut height of the machine can be individually adjusted for each pressure plate, by rotating the spacer plate relative to the pressure plate. The shut height can be optimized very easily and in short a time so that the productivity can considerably be improved.

The wrinkle removing step is carried out prior to a U-shape bending step in which the workpiece is bent to have a U-shaped cross-section in order to obtain an curved elongate channel-shaped article, thereby improving the quality of the resulting article while preventing press dies from being damaged.
Abstract: A die-assisted squeeze-forming apparatus, for bending hooks of a plate against a container e.g. a tank, is able to be used with various shapes of the plate and container without replacement of the die structure. To that end, the apparatus is provided with a calking die structure which has a plurality of divided, relatively movable dies, each movable die being subject to being individually actuated by an actuator. The preferred embodiment of the apparatus also includes a controlling means which controls the movement of the actuators and a detecting means which detects a feature of the tank which is symbolic of the size and shape of that tank. The electric signal which indicates the feature of the container is applied to the controlling means. Then the controlling means sends a respective controlling signal for controlling the movement of the actuators in order to cause an adequate rearrangement of the shape of the calking die structure should the tank be different in size or shape then the preceeding one.

Abstract: A rectangular prism (FIG. 10A) is cut diagonally to form a pair of generally wedge-shaped billets (FIG. 10B). The generally wedge-shaped billets are heated and placed in a transversely elongated die cavity of a lower busting die (20). An upper busting die (22) presses the billet generally into conformity with the busting die cavity. The busting dies include a projection (36) which forms a recess in one planar surface of the billet (FIG. 10C). The busted billet is disposed axially in an axially elongated split ring die cavity (46) of a split ring die (40). A blocking punch (60) presses the billet generally into conformity with the split ring die cavity (FIG. 10D). The split ring die and the blocked billet are moved from a blocking well (14) to a finishing well (16) where a finishing punch (70) presses the blocked billet into conformity with the finishing die cavity (FIG. 10E). The flanges are trimmed from the finished billet and mounting apertures (80, 82) are punched to form an excavator tip (FIG. 10F).
Abstract: A press machine adapted for the production of many different types of products in limited quantities. The press machine comprises a plurality of lower dies mounted on a bolster and a plurality of upper dies each mounted to a slide facing to the respective lower dies. Each upper die is mounted to the slide by means of a die clamper via an adapter plate and each upper die is biased upwards by coil springs so that a predetermined gap exists between each pair of upper and lower dies when the slide is moved down to a bottom dead center. An activating plate can be insertable between the slide and each adapter plate so that the activated upper die is allowed to make contact with the opposing lower die.
Abstract: An apparatus for punching a workpiece has a stationary frame, a longitudinally extending row of horizontally spaced and upwardly facing different dies fixed on the frame below a horizontally elongated punching station, at least one horizontal and stationary rail fixed on the frame, and a punch carriage displaceable horizontally along the rail above the station. A turret rotates about a horizontal turret axis on the carriage and carries a plurality of radially outwardly directed different punches angularly spaced about the turret axis. A positioning unit is operatively connected between the carriage and the frame for displacing the carriage through a plurality of positions in each of which the turret axis is above one of the dies. An indexing unit angularly displaces the turret about its axis through positions in each of which one of the punches is facing down in the station toward the respective die.
