  • Patent number: 5199294
Abstract: This invention discloses a hand tool for bending a flange along an edge of a metal sheet. The tool can bend flanges of selected widths up to a maximum width and does not require that the metal sheet be marked or scored. A bending slot is formed by spaced apart forming plates having parallel bending edges at the boundary of the bending slot and a spacer between the plates. The spacer includes abutment edges spaced apart from bending edges. The abutment edges contact an edge of a metal sheet in the bending slot positioning the bending edges adjacent to the metal sheet and parallel to the edge of the metal sheet. Width-gaging openings through a forming plate communicate with the bending slot at locations spaced apart along the direction of the bending edges. Each width-gaging opening has a boundary with identifiable locations at selected distances from the bending edges.

  • Patent number: 5001922
Abstract: Tools and tool supports in a press which permit a tool changeover operation to be performed quickly and easily are disclosed. A pivot arm is carried on a ram of the press. A punch has an aperture formed therethrough, allowing it to be slidably mounted on the pivot arm. The punch is normally retained by a keeper for use in a first operating position on the pivot arm. The punch may be reversed for use in a second operating position by raising the keeper out of its retaining position and moving the punch along the pivot arm toward a second position. There, the punch can be rotated one hundred eighty degrees about the pivot arm. Then, the punch is moved back to the first position. The keeper automatically retains the reversed punch adjacent to the first support block when the punch is moved back to its original position. To remove the punch from the pivot arm, a retainer pin is removed, allowing one end of the pivot arm to pivot away from the ram.

  • Patent number: 4866975
Abstract: There is disclosed a die repositioning mechanism useful for repositioning dies on the bed of a power operated press. It is particularly useful in preventing unwanted rotation of elongated non-symmetrical dies as they are lifted from the press bed. The mechanism includes a torque limiter carried at each end of the elongated die and a C-hook for connecting the die to the press ram in order to lift the die with the upstroke with the ram of the press. Adjustment of the torque limiter to retard or prevent rotation of the elongated die as it is lifted permits a single person to safely reposition the desired working face of the die on the press bed.
