  • Patent number: 7104106
Abstract: An apparatus to form bends in a substantially rectangular metal frame. The substantially rectangular metal frame is selectively positioned in an elongated radius bend jig. The elongated radius bend jig has a pivotally connected mandrel that has an inverted J-shaped die formed at one end. The mandrel is actuated and the inverted J-shaped die engages the substantially rectangular metal frame causing an indentation in the substantially rectangular metal frame. The process of die stamping the substantially rectangular metal frame is continued until a selected radius is formed in the frame.

  • Patent number: 6973817
Abstract: A multi-directional pull tool has a fist-like cylindrical end section from which a elongated boxed shaped second section extends. The tool is designed to attach to the square or rectangular opening at the end of a damaged frame rail. The tool is attached directly to the sidewalls of the frame rail, allowing for a more direct pull of the infrastructure of the frame rail in the opposite direction in which it was hit, thus allowing a cleaner pull and a setting of the control points of the frame rail back in line. The elongated second section comprises a plurality of openings along the length of the section, through which pull chains, via clamps are connected. In this manner, the damaged frame rail can be pulled in the multitude of directions necessary to return the rail to the proper position without the need to change or reposition the clamps and other pulling equipment.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for rapidly and safely installing a door panel over an automobile door frame includes a rectangular solid body that is preferably formed of a polyethylene plastic. The body includes a nose portion that has a recessed area. The recessed area has a tapered plane that is used to progressively urge the panel around a lip of the frame when the body is impacted, such as by an air impact hammer. The body has an opposite end distally disposed from the nose that includes a cylindrical recess which is adapted to receive a shaft therein, the shaft being adapted for use with the air impact hammer. A fin extends from the nose portion at an angle with respect to the shaft and is used to prevent the tool from rolling into the panel during installation. In use a first pass around the perimeter of the panel is made with the tool close to normal to initially set the panel in position around the lip. A second pass is then made at more of an angle to complete the crimp of the panel fully around the lip.

Abstract: A method of densifying the wall of an opening in a powder metal preform includes forcibly extending a densification tool through the opening having a plurality of radially enlarged forming portions arranged in axially spaced succession from smallest to largest which act to enlarge and densify the preform material and impart beneficial compressive stresses. The space between successive forming portions enables the preform material to recover elastically between adjacent forming sections to maximize induced compressive stresses.

  • Patent number: 5934139
Abstract: A bi-directional impact tool includes a hollow tube member and a shaft slidably received by the hollow tube member in a telescopic relationship. The hollow tube member extends along a longitudinal axis and has a first end and a second end disposed opposite the first end. The shaft extends longitudinally along the longitudinal axis and has a working end disposed exteriorly of the hollow tube member for engaging the workpiece and a striking end disposed opposite the working end and interiorly of the hollow tube member. Moving the hollow tube member in a first direction so that the first end collides with the striking end while the working end is engaged with the workpiece imparts a first impact force to the workpiece in the first direction. Moving the hollow tube member in a second direction opposite the first direction so that the second end collides with the striking end while the working end is engaged with the workpiece imparts a second impact force to the workpiece in the second direction.

  • Patent number: 5934138
Abstract: The present invention provides tools and methods for bending angle stock, a tool including first and second parallel facing plates and a third plate holding the first and second plates in a fixed position. The third plate is fixed to upper edges of the first and second plates, and the first and second plates are separated by a gap sized to receive a side of the angle stock. The first plate has a back surface to which is attached an end of a rod-shaped handle. A bend in the angle stock is made by first cutting one side of the angle stock at a desired bend point on the other side and then placing two of the tools on the uncut side, one on each side of the desired bend point. The handles of the tools are pushed together to form a 90.degree. bend in the angle stock, which is formed because the edges of the first plates that are adjacent to the desired bending point have a 45.degree. angle. With this edge, a right-hand tool contributes a 45.degree. bend and a left-hand tool contributes a 45.degree.

Abstract: The invention provides a tool and method for repairing a sheet metal according which a dented portion of a sheet metal can be easily and appropriately pulled out with a minimal force. The tool has a simple structure and adapted to be used in the method. The tool includes an end of an operation shaft 1 having a given length serves as a handle portion 2, and an arc electrode 3 is affixed to the other end. A support stand 4 is attached to an end of the operational shaft 1. The support stand 4 may include a base 5 through which the operational shaft 1 is inserted and affixed thereto, a leg portion 6 extended from the base 5, and a seat portion 7 attached to the lower end of the leg portion 6. With the configuration as above, the arc electrode 3 is welded to a dented portion r of a sheet metal while the seat portion 7 is in contact with the sheet metal surface R, and the operation shaft 1 is tilted in that state, while the seat portion 7 is pressed against the sheet metal surface R.

  • Patent number: 5890390
Abstract: A method and apparatus for mounting, inspecting, and adjusting probe card needles used during testing of fabricated circuits. A build wafer, comprised of build and scrub target patterns, is used to mount and re-work probe needle assemblies onto a probe card. Each build target is composed of a hard material that is resistant to probe needle scratching, and is offset a preset distance from the position of the bonding pads on the actual wafer to be tested. Each scrub target is composed of a soft material that is easily disturbed by the probe needle's scrubbing action. By counting the number of lines broken or cut by a probe needle's scrub mark, the approximate length and width of the scrub mark may be ascertained. An adjustment tool is designed to fit snugly around the untapered, thickest portion of the probe needle. The tool is rotated along the axis of the probe needle shaft, allowing the technician to "tweak" the probe needle either up or down.

Abstract: A method and a device for the draw expansion of metal tubes of oval cross-section uses expansion elements drawn unidirectionally through metal tubes by means of draw elements. The expansion elements are fastened to the draw elements by suspension devices which have a hammer-like contour. The draw elements are preferably made of a rod-shaped material. An apparatus of the invention is an apparatus for mechanically expanding metallic tubes, in particular tubes in heat exchangers. Each individual tube to be expanded is held in at least one holding device and passed through by a drawing mandrel with an expanding element. To prevent jamming of the expanding element in one of the holding devices, the holding devices are provided with lateral guides which are resiliently compliant outward in the radial direction. When the expanding element passes through the metallic tube, the tube is expanded in the radial direction.

Next there is the step of cutting the tee or main to a desired length. Then there is the step of inserting an end of tee or main into a slot in the tool to a desired length. Next there is the step of crimping tee or main about 90.degree. with the tool without removing any length from the tee or main. Then there is the step of removing the tool from the tee or main. The present invention also pertains to a tool to crimp a tee or main. The tool comprises a housing having an end, with a first slot disposed in the end. Additionally, the tool comprises a plate disposed in the first slot of the housing.
