Abstract: The invention relates to a method for cooling a roll (1), in particular a working roll (1) of a hot-rolling system, comprising the steps of feeding coolant (3) by means of a nozzle (5) into a gap (7) between at least a portion of the roll surface and a cooling shell (9, 11) that can be placed against the portion of the roll surface, and adjusting the gap height (h) between the cooling shell (9, 11) and the roll surface. According to the invention, the adjustment of the gap height (h) comprises either measuring the pressure (pact) of the fed coolant (3) or measuring the volumetric flow rate (Vact) of the fed coolant (3). The invention further relates to a corresponding device (10) for cooling a roll (1).

Abstract: Provided is a method of controlling operation of a tandem rolling mill which enables large reduction rolling in the latter-stage stand of the tandem rolling mill necessary for manufacturing fine-grained steel, and so on. The method comprises: a step of determining a first exit-side sheet thickness in rolling a constant portion of a material to be rolled; and a step of determining a second exit-side sheet thickness in rolling a front end portion of the material, such that a pre-tightening load becomes a set value or less; the material is rolled into the second exit-side sheet thickness, until the front end portion is fed into the stands; the constant portion is rolled by the stand given a pre-tightening load into the first exit-side sheet thickness; and the second exit-side sheet thicknesses of the stands given the pre-tightening load are made larger than the first exit-side sheet thickness.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for suppression of oscillations in a rolling installation is described. By means of a hydraulic roller engagement third-octave oscillations are effectively suppressed, thus making it possible to improve the quality of the rolled material and/or the productivity of the rolling installation. A manipulated variable is supplied to an electrohydraulic actuating element that acts on at least one hydraulic actuator for the roller engagement and has a rated flow rate of ?50 l/min. At least a portion of the frequency response at frequencies f?80 Hz has a magnitude drop of ?3 dB, and the phase lag ? in this frequency range satisfies the conditions f?19·{square root over (?)}+3.1·10?6·?4 and ?<90°.

Abstract: A rolling train for rolling a strip has a number of rolling stands and a coiler. The rolling stands have work and backing rolls. Data of the strip are fed to a control device of the rolling train which determines individual pass reductions for the rolling stands based on the data. It controls the main rolling stands and the coiler such that the strip is rolled in the main rolling stands according to the individual pass reductions and then coiled up. It determines the individual pass reductions such that they are zero and controls the rolling stand arranged directly upstream of the coiler such that—with respect to this main rolling stand—the tension in the strip on the outlet side is less than on the inlet side, but the strip runs through this rolling stand without undergoing any forming, at least on one side.

Abstract: A rolling mill for producing rolled rolling stock is operated in a continuous manner by integrally forming the rolling stock during scheduled operation from a supply device which supplies the stock to the rolling mill to one finishing rolling train arranged downstream of the rolling stock supply device by guiding the stock into the finishing rolling train continuously and rolling it to form a first outflow product. The operation is monitored for a deviation from the scheduled operation that influences the rolling process, wherein in case of a deviation measures are taken to examine whether a second outflow product, which is different from the first outflow product, can still be produced. If the second outflow product cannot be produced, the operation of the rolling mill is altered from a continuous operation to a discontinuous operation, whereby production failures caused by undesired process deviations in a rolling mill can be reduced.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a steel strip (1) including a) providing a functional relationship in a machine controller (8) between a slab casting speed (v) or the mass flow as a product of casting speed and strip thickness or as a product of strip speed and strip thickness and the strip temperature (t) downstream of the last rolling stand (7) for a different number (n) of active rolling stands (7) and different final thicknesses, b) determining or specifying the casting speed (v) or the mass flow (v×H) and feeding the determined value into the machine controller (8), and c) determining the optimum number of active rolling stands (7) and the final thicknesses and thickness reductions which can be rolled with them in the rolling train using the functional profiles.

Abstract: A roll mill for rolling a product has a roll stand with working rolls and a control device. The product has a head part and is moved towards the stand at a product head part speed. The working rolls form a rolling gap. The control device controls the stand such that, before the product head part enters the gap, the rolls are rotated at a peripheral speed which is essentially the same as the product head part speed; the gap is vertically adjusted to essentially a product head part thickness, on the feeding side, before the product enters the gap; and, during or following the insertion of the product into the gap, the gap is closed to a pre-determined value, and the peripheral speed of the working rolls is modified, especially increased, according to the gap, essentially at the same time as the closing of the gap.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for manufacturing tubes, in particular for heat exchangers, composed of endless ribbons on a roller mill, wherein the tubes are composed of at least two ribbons which are subjected to a shaping process on the roller mill, wherein perforations or predetermined break points are introduced into the ribbons at predetermined locations, wherein a step of making the perforations in the ribbons is carried out, after which the ribbons are combined to form the tube and after which individual tubes are separated off at the predetermined locations. The formation of the perforations or the predetermined break points in at least one of the two ribbons is performed within or at the end of the shaping process of the corresponding ribbon so that some of the pairs of rollers do not require a drive.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for increasing the process stability, particularly the absolute thickness precision and the installation safety during the hot rolling of steel of nonferrous materials, with small degrees of deformation (f) or no reductions while taking the high-temperature limit of elasticity (Re) into account when calculating the set rolling force (Fw) and the respective setting position (s). The process stability can be increased with regard to the precision of the yield stress (kf,R) and the set rolling force (Fw) at small degrees of deformation (f) or small reductions, during which the high temperature limit of elasticity (Re) is determined according to the deformation temperature (T) and/or the deformation speed (phip) and is integrated into the function of the yield stress (kf) for determining the set rolling force (Fw) via the relation (2) Re=a+eb1+b2·T.phipc, in which: Re represents the high temperature; phip represents the deformation speed, and; a, b, c represent coefficients.

Abstract: A roll assembly and a pipe extrusion plant for producing pipes with a variable diameter, includes an extruder, an adjustable calibration device, and a cooling device, whereby a pipe to be produced is guided at least in part during the production process. In order to be able to provide a guide that is suited to different pipe diameters, a roll assembly is provided to include a row of rolls which are placed one behind the other in a take-off direction, with each roll mounted in a bracket and supported to allow vertical positioning thereof in dependence on the pipe diameter.

Abstract: A B column of a motor vehicle having a high strength and rigidity in the attachment area of door hinges and door locks and able to protect the occupants of the vehicle in the event of a side crash is provided. The B column includes a reinforcement plate, which extends over the entire height of the B column. Because the requirements for this reinforcement plate are not equally great in all areas, the reinforcement plate is a reshaped tailored rolled blank. The tailored rolled blank is produced by flexible rolling and has different thicknesses transversely to the rolling direction. It is thus especially thick in the areas on which especially high strength and rigidity requirements are placed, while it is implemented as correspondingly thin in the areas which must only fulfill low strength and rigidity requirements.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for deep rolling the passes or radii on the transitions between journal and cheeks or flanges of crankshafts by means of a deep rolling device (1) of a deep rolling machine, said deep rolling device having a lazy tongs-type design. The deep rolling device (1) has two tongs arms (2, 3) that are articulated to each other via a pivot joint (24). The corresponding outer ends (4, 5, 9, 10) of the tongs arms (2, 3) are provided with a deep rolling tool (6) or a force generator (11) for generating the deep rolling force. A measuring tape (18) and a sensor (19) which are provided on the pivot joint (24) are used to measure the impression depth of the deep rolling rollers (12) under the effect of the deep rolling force. A measuring device (22) mounted on the exterior (21) of a tongs arm (2) is used to measure the degree by which the tongs arm (2) bends under the effect of the deep rolling force.

Abstract: According to a method, initial temperatures (T1) of strip points (101) are detected when the hot-rolled strip (6) is fed to the production line. The strip points (101) are monitored on their way through the production line. The hot-rolled strip (6) is subjected to temperature influences (delta T) in the production line (3). The strip points (101), the initial temperatures (T1), the monitored values (W(t)) and the temperature influences (delta T) are supplied to a model (9) for the production line (3). The model (9) determines expected actual temperatures (T2) of the strip points (101) in real time and allocates them to the strip points as the new actual temperatures (T2).

Abstract: A method and a device for the production of curved spring strip sections. A spring strip runs through a bending unit formed from three separate support points and a reverse bending unit, arranged in series, and formed from a fourth support point. Bent and reverse-bent spring strip sections are separated off from the spring strip in a separator unit. In order to achieve a compact construction for the device, the third support point of the bending unit and the fourth support point of the reverse bending unit are adjustable in position relative to the spring strip, by a controller with pre-set programs.

Abstract: The method and the device for manufacturing an acoustically effective foil stack (9) made of embossed foil webs (5e, 5f, 5g, 5h) is characterised by the fact that at least two foil webs lying over one another (5a, 5b, 5c, 5d) are embossed at the same time, are conveyed along different length conveying routes (W, W1, W2, W3), and then are brought together into a stack (9), and embossed foil webs (5e, 5f, 5g, 5h) arranged to be lying next to one another are laid down in an offset fashion due to the different length conveying routes (W, W1, W2, W3). A particularly advantageous-design of the embossing rollers (1a, 1b) provides foil webs which have knobs with a draped or folded type structure.

Abstract: A method for automatic conducting of a straightening process for an object to be straightened, such as sheet metal, strips, sections, pipes, and in particular for wire-like or multiwire-like objects that are to be straightened, in a straightening device or a levelling machine with at least one mangle roll which can be adjusted by an actuator. In accordance with this invention, a process simulation model of a straightening process that is to be conducted, and a process simulation program are set up, and the latter gives directly “online” the settings of the adjustable mangle rolls.
