  • Patent number: 5927121
Abstract: A method of manufacture of a gear part with a bottom area and a circumferential area, which has two portions. One portion extends to one side of the bottom area, while the other portion extends to the opposite side of the bottom area. On one portion is formed an inner profiling and on the other portion an outer profiling. According to a first method, on a cup-shaped preform a web is formed by splitting or flow-forming and extends in the opposite direction to the cup wall. In the thus formed web and in the cup wall are subsequently made the desired profilings. In a second method, an arcuate curl is produced and is subsquently flow-formed to the portions with the profilings.

Abstract: A pipe profiling machine improves the utilization of the working length of a profiling stone in the inner profiling of heat exchanger pipes. The press-on width of the revolving roller bodies, such as spherical, cylindrical, or barrel-shaped roller bodies, is substantially narrower than the profile width of the profiling stone so that in this area the profiling stone is worn out rapidly while the other area remains unworn. The press-on roller bodies and/or the profiling stone are/is oscillated axially back and forth within the axial working length of the profiling stone so that the entire profile range of the profiling stone can be utilized and so that radially outwardly projecting stripes on the pipes are avoided even if spherical roller bodies are used.

  • Patent number: 5732581
Abstract: The present invention relates a method of producing a sheet metal poly-V groove pulley in which a thickened annular peripheral wall of an outer peripheral side of a base plate is holding held and pressed so as to increase the axial length of the annular peripheral wall, thereby forming a drum wall and preliminary ears projected from the root portion of the drum wall, and thereafter a step of forming poly-V grooves and ears is performed so that poly-V grooves and ears which are obtained by further projecting the preliminary ears and have a single layer structure are formed on the drum wall. According to this method, the preliminary ears are previously formed and then further projected so as to form the ears. Even when a sheet metal member is thin, therefore, ears of a single-layer structure which has a sufficient projection degree can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 5634361
Abstract: This invention provides methods and apparatuses for determining the non-true condition of a damaged metal wheel such as the wheel's radial runout, its lateral runout, and the length of its damaged zone. The invention provides for the use of components which rigidly hold the wheel in a fixture, which apply heat to the wheel in a controlled manner so as to raise the temperature of the wheel to its somewhat softened state, and which apply a suitable force to the damaged zone while the wheel is in its, or while it is being heated, to its somewhat softened state. This force is applied to the heated wheel until the radial runout of the damaged zone is reduced to a first predetermined limit. The invention also provides for the use of components which rotate the wheel between at least a pair of oppositely-positioned contacting and compressing rollers. This compression action occurs after the wheel has been heated to its, or while it is being heated to its, somewhat softened state.

  • Patent number: 4854148
Abstract: Formation of continuous grooves on the internal surface of a tube shell, in a single continuous cold drawing step, in which the tube shell is first sunk in a die over a reduced diameter cylindrical mandrel portion so that the diameter of the inner surface of the tube shell is reduced to a dimension below the base of the grooves of a grooved plug portion of the mandrel thereby retarding longitudinal movement of a portion of the reduced internal surface of the sunk tube shell at a plurality of circumferentially spaced intervals to effect formation of longitudinally continuous shallow grooves. The mandrel is allowed to rotate if it is desirable to facilitate the formation of spiral grooves on the tube inner surface.

  • Patent number: 4831705
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a sheet metal poly-V pulley including forming a tubular peripheral wall integrally from the peripheral edge of bottom wall and forming poly-V grooves in the peripheral wall at specified pitches, in which a bent part is formed in the bottom wall in an annular form concentric with the axial center of the peripheral wall and bulging out in a convex form toward the opening side of the peripheral wall. The load from the poly-V belt which may cause plastic deformation of the sheet metal poly-V pulley is absorbed by this bent part, so that the increase of material cost, difficulty in forming, and increase of weight due to increase of the thickness of the blank of sheet metal poly-V pulley in order to enhance the strength may be avoided.

  • Patent number: 4633557
Abstract: A sheet metal poly-V pulley is made by forming a cup-shaped blank having a cylindrical wall with inner and outer peripheral surfaces, thickening the cylindrical wall by compressing the blank axially while rolling it, then rolling the thickened blank on shaped rollers to form corresponding inter-spaced inner and outer grooves. The outer grooves are deep V-shapes impressed with rollers; the inner grooves are shallow V-shapes formed by pressure against the surface of a rotary support for the cup shaped blank during rolling. The plurality of parallel V-shaped annular grooves in the outer peripheral surface receive poly-V belts, and the plurality of smaller V-shaped annular grooves on the inner peripheral surface are aligned between the outer partition walls and cause more-precise positioning of the outer grooves. Flared flanges are formed at opposite ends of the thickened portion projecting radially beyond the partition walls, the flanges having stepped, cut-out portions for receiving the edges of poly-V belts.

  • Patent number: 4627665
Abstract: A pick type bit is disclosed with an improved socket for a carbide insert. The cutter body of the bit is cold-headed from a steel blank to provide a cylindrical shank and a conical head with a socket in the forward end. The cylindrical shank is roll-formed to provide a retaining groove and an intermediate section is roll-formed to provide an extraction groove between the head and the shank. The cold-heading includes an initial step of squaring-up the forward end of the blank by cold-heading it into cylindrical shape with a flat forward end and then punching the socket. This provides a socket of densified work-hardened steel. The bit is completed by brazing the base of a carbide insert in mating relation with the socket in the head.
