Abstract: A broadcast receiver includes an input unit, a receiving unit, a control unit, a main memory, a demultiplexer unit, and a decoding unit. A transport stream of digital packetized data includes various data types identified by various parameters within the packet header. A filtering table lists select identifying parameters representing the various data types which are to be stored and processed. Data packets which do not have a select parameter found within the filtering table are ignored by the broadcast receiver. The filtering table is scalable by a control unit to an optimum size, which is the minimum size necessary to store all necessary parameters. A control unit determines the number of parameters required in the filtering table, and scales the filtering table to accommodate that number of parameters.

Abstract: A method for distributing digital content can include receiving a first request from a first client for a digital content of the plurality of digital content and providing a first portion of the digital content to the first client. The method can further include receiving a second request from a second client for the digital content after providing the first portion of the digital content to the first client and providing a second portion of the digital content as a multicast stream to the first and second clients. Additionally, the method can include sending an offer to the second client to skip the first portion of the digital content.

Abstract: Displaying a video stream when constrained by system memory and connection bandwidth. When the resources and/or memory of a client are insufficient to decode and process a video stream, the client only decodes and processes key frames of the video stream. The other frames are discarded by the client. By decoding and processing key frames, the memory and resource requirements of the video stream are reduced. The client is also able to negotiate with the video stream source such that only key frames are downloaded. Bandwidth limitations can thus be accommodated because downloading only key frames requires less bandwidth.

The demultiplexing device comprises at least one merging unit, receiving at least two of the transport streams and producing one merged stream comprising a merged arrangement of the originating packets.
