Patent number: 7647619Abstract: A broadcast receiver includes an input unit, a receiving unit, a control unit, a main memory, a demultiplexer unit, and a decoding unit. A transport stream of digital packetized data includes various data types identified by various parameters within the packet header. A filtering table lists select identifying parameters representing the various data types which are to be stored and processed. Data packets which do not have a select parameter found within the filtering table are ignored by the broadcast receiver. The filtering table is scalable by a control unit to an optimum size, which is the minimum size necessary to store all necessary parameters. A control unit determines the number of parameters required in the filtering table, and scales the filtering table to accommodate that number of parameters.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2001Date of Patent: January 12, 2010Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Electronics Inc.Inventor: Koji Kashima

Patent number: 7627886Abstract: Displaying a video stream when constrained by system memory and connection bandwidth. When the resources and/or memory of a client are insufficient to decode and process a video stream, the client only decodes and processes key frames of the video stream. The other frames are discarded by the client. By decoding and processing key frames, the memory and resource requirements of the video stream are reduced. The client is also able to negotiate with the video stream source such that only key frames are downloaded. Bandwidth limitations can thus be accommodated because downloading only key frames requires less bandwidth.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2002Date of Patent: December 1, 2009Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Monique Barbanson, Pradip K. Patent number: 7568212Abstract: There is provided a digital broadcasting receiver capable of making channel selection without making a user conscious of the difference between a physical channel number and a virtual channel number. A CPU uses an OSD display circuit, for example, to display a menu screen, and causes a user to select either a first mode or a second mode. The first mode is a mode for making channel selection by the physical channel number in which a frequency is assigned to a channel by the physical channel number in accordance with a rule, and a second mode is a mode for making channel selection by the virtual channel number in which a frequency corresponds to a channel on the side of the receiver. The CPU automatically makes, when no channel selection can be made by the entered channel number in the selected mode, an attempt to make channel selection corresponding to the other mode.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2002Date of Patent: July 28, 2009Assignee: Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd.Inventor: Akinori Tsubouchi

The baseband processor receives a broadcast signal including mobile service data and main service data. Herein, the mobile service data may configure an RS frame. And, the RS frame may include mobile service data, file data, and a table having at least one channel configuration information on the mobile service data and estimated download time for the file data described therein. The table handler parses the table from the RS frame, thereby extracting and outputting at least one channel configuration information on the mobile service data and estimated download time information of the file data. The FLUTE handler parses the file data from the RS frame and storing the parsed data.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 25, 2008Publication date: March 5, 2009Inventors: Pil Sup Shin, In Hwan Choi, Jeong Woo Kim, Jae Hyung Song, Chul Soo Lee

Patent number: 7499462Abstract: A system, method and apparatus for implementing a wireless point-to-point interface that securely and robustly delivers digital content from a generalized content source to a generalized content sink. The system, method and apparatus performs in a manner that is sufficiently secure and robust to serve as a replacement for the delivery of HDMI content over cable. The system, method and apparatus is also applicable to the delivery of other types of content traditionally delivered over cable, including but not limited to Digital Video Interface (DVI) content, composite video (CVSB) content, S-video content, RGB video content, YUV video content, and/or various types of audio content.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2005Date of Patent: March 3, 2009Assignee: Radiospire Networks, Inc.Inventors: Samuel J. Publication number: 20090055882Abstract: A digital broadcasting system and a data processing method are disclosed. A receiving system of the digital broadcasting system includes a baseband processor, an IP network stack, and a handler. The baseband processor receives a broadcast signal including mobile service data and main service data. Herein, the mobile service data configures a Reed-Solomon (RS) frame, and the RS frame includes mobile service data and an internet protocol (IP) signaling channel having pre-decided IP access information included therein. The IP network stack accesses the IP signaling channel from the RS frame using the IP access information, thereby collecting signaling table information received through the IP signaling channel. And, the handler identifies and parses the collected signaling table information based upon a table identifier of each signaling table received through the IP signaling channel, thereby storing the parsed result.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 25, 2008Publication date: February 26, 2009Inventors: Jae Hyung Song, In Hwan Choi, Jong Yeul Suh, Jin Pil Kim, Chul Soo Lee

Publication number: 20090055881Abstract: There is provided a cable broadcast receiver for solving problems arising in the switching between execution of a download application and reproduction of video audio information from an external device. The receiver has operating modes including a first mode and a second mode. Under the first mode, the receiver is operated based on a download application acquired through a network. Under the second mode, the receiver is operated based on a receiver application. The receiver is operated under the second mode when information inputted from an external device is to be displayed. A key delivery unit delivers, upon receiving a key code instructing a channel change during the operation under the second mode, the key code indicating the channel change to a download application management unit which controls the key delivery to the download application, and a receiver application management unit which controls the key delivery to the receiver application.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2008Publication date: February 26, 2009Inventors: Hiroshi AOKI, Tsuneki Yasuho, Yasunobu Kanzaki, Keisuke Iwata, Tsuyoshi Ide, Tatsuto Horibe

Publication number: 20090055880Abstract: The present invention provides a method of operating a set-top box that is coupled to a video display, the set-top box being configured for communication with a video content provider. One embodiment of the method may include initiating display of a first portion of video content that is pre-loaded onto the set-top box and transmitting a request to subscribe to a first multicast service in response to initiating display of the first portion of the video content. The video content provider is configured to provide a second portion of the video content using the first multicast service.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 21, 2007Publication date: February 26, 2009Inventors: Harold Batteram, Mohamed El-Sayed
