Receiver (e.g., Set-top Box) Patents (Class 725/131)
  • Patent number: 8640181
Abstract: Embodiments provide for outputting video and allowing a user to switch between different audio streams in a synchronous manner without impacting the timeline of the audio presentation. The audio and video streams may be directed to a single sporting event. For example, a user can view video associated with a national television broadcast of a baseball game, and switch between the audio from the national broadcast and the audio from the radio broadcast. Similarly, the user can view video associated with a local television broadcast, and switch between the audio from the national, regional, and/or radio broadcast. As any sport fan would appreciate, such flexibility enables users to watch the video with, e.g., the best quality and camera angle, while at the same time listening to the audio or broadcaster they find the most appealing.

The computer readable storage medium is accessible to the processor and bears instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to determine, for a license period, a first number of consumer electronic (CE) devices that have activated the licensed component. The instructions also cause the processor to determine, for the license period, a second number of CE devices that have not activated the licensed component. In addition, the instructions cause the processor to generate a license fee payment index related to the licensed component based on the first number and excluding the second number.

A measurement circuit measures operational parameter values of the primary functionality. A fault detection circuit determines a level of equivalence between the operation of the primary functionality and a reference functionality based on a weighted comparison of the measured operational parameter values of the primary functionality to corresponding reference operational parameter values for the reference functionality If the equivalence determination fails to find equivalence, the fault detection circuit signals a fault in the primary functionality and activates the backup functionality.

Abstract: A multiplexed transport interface (MTSIF) may be utilized during communication between a demodulation module and a video processing system-on-chip (SoC). The MTSIF may enable concurrent demodulation of a plurality of input modulated video streams, via a plurality of demodulator chips within the demodulation module, by multiplexing data generated by the demodulator chips via the MTSIF during communication between the demodulator module and the video processing SoC. The MTSIF may also be utilized for communicating control signals, which may be used in controlling and/or managing operations of the demodulation module, the video processing SoC, and/or the MTSIF. Communication via the MTSIF may be synchronized. Packets communicated via the MTSIF may be timestamped. Timestamp counters may be used in the demodulation module and the video processing SoC to generate and/or track timestamps in communicated packets. The timestamp counter may be synchronized, using control signals communicated via the MTSIF.
