Abstract: A system and method for the late-binding of time-based media in real-time. With late binding, the sender may create time-based media before or at the same time an active delivery route to the recipient is discovered. As soon as the route becomes available, the media is transmitted. The existing DNS and email infrastructure is possibly used for route discovery, while any real-time transmission protocol may be used for the actual delivery of the media. “Progressive” emails may also be used for the real-time delivery of time-based media.

Abstract: This disclosure is directed to processes and systems for generating data packets in a smart network interface controller (“SNIC”) of a host server computer. A smart packet generator (“spktgen”) controller receives a user command that contains directions for how packets are generated in the SNIC. The command is sent to a spktgen daemon that runs in a control core of the multicore processor. The spktgen daemon extracts the type of packet generator and packet parameters recorded in the command and sends the type of packet generator and packet parameters to a spktgen engine that also runs in the control core. The spktgen engine creates threads in each of one or more data cores of the multicore processor. Each thread comprises instructions for generating data packets from the data generated by data generating sources of the host in accordance with the type of packet generator and the packet parameters.

The system is configured to identify users of the system in order to tailor the content as appropriate. In addition, identification of users allows for the identification of the subscription content that corresponds to the user. Based upon identification of a user and corresponding subscription, the user's subscription content may be streamed to any location. In this manner, the users subscribed content may follow the user from home to a friend's house, or elsewhere.

Two or more client devices in a given area may be camped on the same cell of the same WWAN, and the client devices may be decoding the paging information from the same cell. A method and apparatus are disclosed such that a client device may decode the paging information from the WWAN and relay the WWAN paging information to other client devices over the short range link. This may enable other client devices to avoid having to decode the paging information directly from the WWAN which may reduce their power consumption.

A content queuing system on the secondary device generates and displays a playlist interface on the secondary device. A selection of a content item to be added to a playlist is received. The content queuing system determines that addition of the content item causes a live content item to overlap with an on-demand content item on the playlist. As a result, the content queuing system creates at least two segments for the on-demand content item. The live content item is positioned between the first and a second segment on the playlist. The first segment is scheduled to end at a start time of the live content item and the second segment is scheduled to begin at an ending time of the live content item.
