Abstract: Methods, computer program products, and systems are presented. The methods include, for instance: training of a machine learning model for predicting a rating in certain content rating systems based on training data. The machine learning model includes a plurality of maturity classifiers corresponding to individual features of the previously rated contents. An input content is obtained and features of the input content are extracted by use of respective content analysis tools and subsequently classified by the maturity classifiers of the machine learning model.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein to dynamically update content restrictions for multiple users by detecting a first user in the proximity of a media device playing a first content item and detecting a second user entering the proximity of the media device. In response to detecting a second user entering the proximity of the media device and receiving a command from the first user that controls playing the first content, the system modifies a stored relationship between the first user and the second user to track the relationship between the first user and the second user. Thereafter, when the system detects the first user and the second user in the proximity of a media device playing a second content, in response, the system automatically performs an action that controls the playing of the second content (e.g., without user having to issue those commands).

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a system for indicating a program boundary in an adaptive bitrate media stream, where the system includes a memory and a processor that performs operations including generating multiple transcoded media output streams of different bit rates from an input linear media stream, fragmenting the multiple transcoded media output streams into chunks, detecting a program boundary in the input linear media stream, and supplying a program change indicator in a manifest file for implementing program change features in mobile communication devices. The method includes carrying out an analysis that includes coming to a determination that, notwithstanding at least some features of a plurality of group-associated objects are being concealed, a visible association between the objects in combination with size and shape definitions for corresponding redactions of the group-associated objects is such that an identity deducibility condition is either met or is not met.

Abstract: Examples involve a control device using a social networking service to facilitate registration of a streaming media service with a media playback system. An example implementation receives (i) data indicating login credentials for a given account of a social networking service, and (ii) input data to configure streaming media services with a media playback system. Based on receiving the input data to configure the media playback system, the implementation queries the social networking service for streaming media services associated with the given account, and in response to the query, receives data indicating a first streaming media service associated with the given account. The implementation configures the media playback system to playback audio content from the first streaming media service that is associated with the given account and causes the media playback system to playback audio content from the first streaming media service.

Abstract: A method is performed using a smart TV, which receives from a television signal source device a television signal feed encoding primary television content and then presents that content. The smart TV receives data via the computer network, including first data representing a to-be-replaced portion of the primary television content and second data representing secondary television content. Using the second data, the smart TV automatically presents the secondary television content in place of the to-be-replaced television content.

Abstract: Secure, controlled, interactive virtual visitation for confinement institution inmates is provided using computing devices connected through a network by managing the scheduling of visitation sessions and use of shared visitation session resources, ensuring the identities of the inmate and the person with whom the inmate is to interact in the virtual visitation session, and by monitoring the interactions and communications during the virtual visitation sessions to detect prohibited activities. Another embodiment of the invention uses a virtual desktop shared from a remote server to ensure that an inmate does not have access to prohibited applications or content during a virtual visitation session.

Abstract: A computing system detects a channel multi-match with non-matching programs, based on fingerprint-based ACR analysis of digital fingerprint data representing a channel rendered by a content presentation device. The system then responsively performs disambiguation based at least in part on detecting an earlier single-channel match and/or a later single-channel match, the disambiguation establishing that the channel rendered by the content presentation device is the single known channel. And based on the disambiguation, the system then uses the single known channel as a basis for carrying out of at least one channel-specific operation, such as recording audience-measurement data and/or invoking dynamic content modification.

Abstract: Methods and systems that provide an interactive media guidance application having a locked mode for viewing media assets. In the locked mode, the interactive media guidance application may provide media assets suited to a certain audience. The interactive media guidance application may determine suitable media assets for the locked mode based on media assets viewed by other users having characteristics similar to the user of the interactive media guidance application. In the locked mode, the interactive media guidance application may allow access to only certain media assets and/or limit the time period for which the media assets are presented.

Abstract: A system for locking a remote-control device blocks a remote-control device from sending signals related to user input until a code to unlock the remote-control device is received. The system for locking a remote-control device receives an indication that the remote-control device should be locked and locks the remote-control device. The system for locking a remote-control device receives user input and determines whether the user input included a predetermined code. Based on a determination that the user input included the predetermined code, the system for locking a remote-control device unlocks the remote-control device.

Abstract: A system is configured to enhance a video feed in real time. A live video feed captured by a video capturing device is received. A presentation of the live video feed on one or more client devices is enhanced. The enhancing includes causing a first content item of a plurality of content items to be displayed at a first location within the presentation of the live video feed. Based on a detecting of a first instance of a first gesture made by a hand at the first location in the live video feed, a content item manipulation mode with respect to the first content item is entered. The entering of the content item manipulation mode with respect to the first content includes at least one of causing the first content item to be moved within the presentation of the live video feed based on a movement of the hand or causing a scale of the first content item to be changed within the presentation of the live video feed based on a detecting of a second gesture made by the hand.

Abstract: A system and method for learning naturalistic driving behavior based on vehicle dynamic data that include receiving vehicle dynamic data and image data and analyzing the vehicle dynamic data and the image data to detect a plurality of behavioral events. The system and method also include classifying at least one behavioral event as a stimulus-driven action and building a naturalistic driving behavior data set that includes annotations that are based on the at least one behavioral event that is classified as the stimulus-driven action. The system and method further include controlling a vehicle to be autonomously driven based on the naturalistic driving behavior data set.

Abstract: A system and method implements communications between a TV operator's infrastructure and set-top boxes (STBs) through a TV operator's infrastructure, wherein the infrastructure includes at least one Conditional Access System (CAS), a messaging engine and a Set Top Box (STB), the STB including a unique identification value. The method comprises receiving a structured message in the messaging engine; computing a stream out of multiple received structured messages by the messaging engine and sending to the multiplexor; including the stream of structured messages in a broadcasted signal transmitted through the TV operator's infrastructure; receiving the broadcasted signal by the STB and extracting a structured message; and comparing addressing information in the extracted structured message with a unique identification of the STB. Messages directed to the STB can be displayed.

Abstract: Techniques for improving a user video game experience are described. In an example, a computer system receives event data from a plurality of user devices. Each event data includes an identifier of an activity in a video game and data and an identifier of a mechanic used to complete the activity. The identifiers can be predefined in program code of the video game. The identifiers data can be received based on an execution of the program code. The event data is processed to determine, for a user that has not completed the activity, a readiness of the user to perform the activity. Depending on the readiness, the activity can be suggested in a user interface element.

Abstract: A method, a computer program product, and a computer system for filtering content based on user state is disclosed. Exemplary embodiments include associating a user with one or more cohorts and extracting one or more features from a content retrieved by the user. Moreover, exemplary embodiments may further include determining whether at least one of the one or more features conflict with at least one of the one or more cohorts.

Abstract: An electronic privacy apparatus, for selectively blocking transmission of data from a camera, includes a camera, a first processor, a switch, and a second processor. The first processor is connected to the camera and receives image data from the camera. The switch is connected to the first processor. The second processor is configured to execute an operating system. The first processor implements a transmission state where the first processor transmits the image data to the second processor. The first processor also implements a privacy state where the first processor transmits blank data to the second processor. Based on user input, the switch selects either the transmission state or the privacy state and transmits a signal to the first processor indicating the user input.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described herein for calculating a predicted time when a first user will be exposed to a spoiler of a first media asset. A media guidance application may retrieve an initial transmission time of the first media asset and a transmission time of a second media asset that precedes the transmission time of the first media asset. The media guidance application may retrieve electronic communications from a second user whose electronic communications the first user has viewed, and determine a subset of the electronic communications that correspond to the second media asset. The media guidance application may calculate a length of time from the transmission time of the second media asset to the earliest availability time of an electronic communication in the subset. The media guidance application may calculate the predicted time based on the transmission time of the first media asset and the length of time.

An objectionable scene is identified based on a user preference and according to a characterization. An altered scene based on a content of the objectionable scene may be obtained responsive to the identifying of the objectionable scene. The altered scene provides a suitable scene in place of the objectional scene that preserves information of the content to obtain preserved information. Replacement of the objectionable scene with the altered scene may be facilitated to obtain adapted media content, wherein presentation of the adapted media content via equipment avoids presentation of the objectionable scene, while maintaining a continuity of the original media content via the preserved information. The master device executes the following steps: selecting data for playback; obtaining the position information of the slave devices through a wireless positioning technique; ascertaining a distribution pattern according to the position information; comparing the distribution pattern with at least a part of the patterns of multiple predetermined modes and thereby selecting one from the predetermined modes as a playback mode; and determining the playback parameters of the slave devices according to the position information and the playback mode, or notifying the slave devices of their playback roles based on the playback mode and the position information to let the slave devices determine their own playback parameters. Each slave device includes a wireless communication circuit available to the wireless positioning technique, and the slave devices play synchronously according to the master device's control.

Provided is a reception device including: a tuning control unit configured to perform tuning control for tuning digital broadcasting using an Internet Protocol (IP) transmission scheme; and an acquisition control unit configured to perform acquisition control for acquiring content transmitted in the digital broadcasting according to a result of a matching process on a provider-side PDI-A indicating an answer set by a provider that provides content to a question on preference of a user included in transmission information transmitted in an upper layer of an IP layer of protocol layers of the IP transmission scheme and client-side PDI-A indicating an answer set by the user to the question in the digital broadcasting. The present technology can be applied to, for example, a television receiver set.

Channel tuning commands are entered via a user interface of a computing device. Channel tuning data, which describes channel transitions caused by the channel tuning commands, is stored in a buffer. Based on the channel tuning data, a channel family comprising a plurality of channels is generated. A determination is made as to whether a currently tuned channel is included in the channel family. In response to determining that the currently tuned channel is included in the channel family, an on-screen guide, which comprises an abbreviated channel listing of the plurality of channels of the channel family, is generated for display.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein disclose technology for allocating funds related to one or more in-game purchases when users interact with a gaming application. Based on the interactions of a user with the gaming application running on a client device of the user, a gaming server receives information of an in-game purchase by the user. The gaming server notifies a second computer server of the in-game purchase which sends an activation link to the user. When the second computer detects selection of the activation link, funds are electronically transferred from the gaming application to one or more accounts. In some embodiments, the funds allocated to the one or more accounts can be a percentage of the in-game purchase amount.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes creating a family profile for an automatic content filtering system, the family profile identifying a restricted account and a non-restricted account. The method further includes restricting, by the content filtering system, access to a digital content according to a set of rules, the restricting in response to receiving a request from the restricted account. The method further includes updating, by the content filtering system, the set of rules in response to the unrestricted account authorizing the restricted account to access the digital content that was restricted by the automatic content filtering system.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments provide smart device authentication and content transformation. A profile is created for members of a household. The member profiles include information about the members, including associated electronic devices, and a maximum allowable content rating (MACR). Using the associated electronic devices and/or other techniques, the presence of the members in proximity to content presentation devices is determined. In response to a member being detected in proximity to a content presentation device, and the content rating of the currently presented content exceeding the maximum allowable content rating (MACR) of the member in proximity, a content transformation is performed. The content transformation can include muting, pausing, changing, or otherwise obfuscating the presented content. Thus, the exposure of such content to the member is prevented or reduced. Embodiments allow users such as parents to obtain more control over the content that their children may be exposed to at their home.

Abstract: An automatic flagging of sensitive portions of a digital dataset for media production includes receiving the digital dataset comprising at least one of audio data, video data, or audio-video data for producing at least one media program. A processor identifies sensitive portions of the digital dataset likely to be in one or more defined content classifications, based at least in part on comparing unclassified portions of the digital dataset with classified portions of the prior media production using an algorithm, and generates a plurality of sensitivity tags each signifying a sensitivity assessment for a corresponding one of the sensitive portions. The processor may save the plurality of sensitivity tags each correlated to its corresponding one of the sensitive portions in a computer memory for use by a media production or localization team.

Search criteria is received from a user, and the search criteria is identified in listings of media programming available from one or more sources. In some implementations, a combined search result can be provided that identifies instances of the search criteria found in program guide listings, files stored on a digital video recorder (DVR), available on-demand content, or any other sources as desired. Some implementations may prioritize search results using information about files stored on a DVR, user preferences, or any other information as desired.

Abstract: An improved approach to tracking media playback includes tracking logic that is based on abandonment indicators. An abandonment indicator is detected during media playback, such as a user interaction with a computing device that is detected prior to ceasing playback of the media content. Tracking messages are reduced, suppressed, or suspended until an abandonment indicator is detected. After an abandonment indicator is detected, the system quickens, releases, or restart sending tracking messages to a collection system.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed herein for a media guidance application that allows access restrictions to be modified in a flexible manner based on a deviation in a user's projected location. Specifically, the media guidance application determines at an end of a first time period whether a user is in a projected location for a second time period. If the user is in a projected location for the second time period, the media guidance application sets a second level of media access restriction. However, if the media guidance application determines that the user is not in the projected location for the second time period, the media guidance application maintains the first level of media access restriction.

Abstract: A device control method includes monitoring location of a first user device of a first user and receiving an indication of a location of a second user device. The method further includes monitoring use of the second user device and determining a first time of use on the second user device. The first time of use on the second user device is allocated to a use time of a second user based on the location of the first user device relative to the location of the second user device, and a functional component of a third user device of the second user is disabled based at least on the use time of the second user.

Abstract: Methods and systems are presented for selecting a preferred source of ratings (e.g., Metacritic.com) and integrating the ratings into the electronic program guide (EPG) such as displaying the ratings alongside program listings. By allowing the user to select the source of ratings, the media guidance application ensures that the ratings provided are meaningful to the user. The media guidance application retrieves the ratings from the source of ratings selected by the user and displays the retrieved ratings in the corresponding program listing so that the user may make an informed decision about his or her television viewing. The media guidance application may also incorporate the retrieved ratings into media guidance functions such as setting reminders, scheduling recordings, or recommending programs.

Abstract: The system and methods described herein determine whether to override commands to modify content presentation in a multi-user content consumption environment. A media guidance application detects a first and second user consuming content. Upon receiving a command from the first user to modify the presentation of the content, the media guidance application retrieves a user profile of the second user and compares attributes in the user profile to metadata for the segment of the content. Based on the comparison, the media guidance application determines whether to override the command, for example based on a predicted interest level or importance level determined by the comparison. In response to determining to override the command, the media guidance application refrains from executing the command by canceling or delaying the command and generates a notification message to the user with a reason why the command was overridden.

Abstract: In some implementations, a computing system can reduce startup delays for presenting remote media items. For example, when a user requests media content from a media service, the computing system can include information about the first media item to be played in the initial startup messages to reduce the number of roundtrips needed between client and server devices to present the first media item. A media item can include an introductory asset. The introductory asset can be a portion of the full media item that can be decrypted with a local key or not encrypted at all so that a media client can receive and start presenting the introductory media asset quickly while the full media item is being processed by the media client. In some implementations, the system can remove leading silence from the media item so that the amount of delay perceived by the user is reduced.

Abstract: A method and system of providing a control user interface at a first home appliance are disclosed, the method including detecting presence of a user within a threshold range of the first home appliance, and performing image processing on one or more real-time images of the user to determine one or more characteristics of a facial image of the user; determining at least a first parameter that is configured to trigger a first change in a current control user interface configuration for the first home appliance; and activating a first control user interface configuration corresponding to the first parameter for the first home appliance while the presence of the first user continues to be detected within the threshold range of the first home appliance.

Abstract: A social network that enables mobile device users to store content associated with a geolocation. Users can interface using content associated with a geolocation. Users may listen to the same song and/or playlist together in real-time by selecting a user on a map that may be associated with geolocation information that may be available for the user. Users may create spatial events in which they can invite users based on one or more parameters, such as group or geographic locations. Users can then create a spatial buffer based on factors including time stamp and distance. Once a time stamp becomes current, invited users who enter within the proximity of the defined geofence may share content.

The method also includes receiving, at the media device, information from one or more sensors, where the information indicates that a viewer (e.g., a child) is located within an area associated with the media device. The method includes determining whether the advertisement includes age-inappropriate content for the viewer based on the rating and based on the information. When the advertisement includes age-inappropriate content for the viewer, the method includes inhibiting display of the advertisement.
