  • Patent number: 10267224
Abstract: A set of mechanisms, for use with an internal combustion test engine, for testing cylinder offset during operation of the engine. The test engine specifics may vary, but it is assumed to have a crankcase base that supports a cylinder barrel and cylinder head. During engine operation, a transit plate is secured to the top surface of the crankshaft base, and a pair of wedge plates is secured between the transit plate and the bottom of the cylinder barrel. When the engine is not in operation, the transit plate can be slid in a direction normal to the crankshaft axis (for cylinder offset adjustment), and the wedge plates can be moved relative to each other (for cylinder height adjustment).

  • Patent number: 7682272
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a driving device of armature balance machine, in which a driving motor is formed on the same centerline of the armature, a hinge block pivot-connected by the hinge shaft is installed in the finger mounter of the bracket in such a manner that the hinge shaft is disposed on the same centerline of the driving motor and the variable roller is formed at one side of the hinge shaft, the finger provided with a complementary roller is symmetrically constructed about the centerline of the driving motor, and thereafter a belt is wound around each roller, so that the construction of the driving motor can be simplified and thus the length of the belt is minimized and the vibration of the belt is minimized, thereby enabling to keep the tension applied to the belt in an optimum state, due to the facts that the tension of the belt is symmetrical about the centerline of the belt and also the variable roller i.e. the tension adjusting means is not operated by the belt.

  • Patent number: 7370529
Abstract: A method of balancing a movable rotating object having multiple radial projections, such as a ceiling fan, the method comprising the steps of: attaching to a non-rotating portion of the object a source that emits a focused light, directing the focused light at a target, and then attaching a weight to a location on one of the rotating projections. Then observing the orbit traced by the light source on the target, changing the location of the weight to another location on one of the radial projections, and then observing the change in the orbit on the target.

  • Patent number: 6412345
Abstract: One aspect of the present invention is therefore a method for balancing a hollow cylindrical, rotatable object that is coupled to a drive source that is configured to rotate the rotatable object without a central shaft. The method includes steps of: mounting an arbor having a forward shaft and an aft shaft to an inner wall of the rotatable object so that the forward shaft and aft shaft are concentric to an axis of rotation of the rotatable object; operating the drive source to rotate the rotatable object and the arbor; measuring displacement of the forward shaft and the aft shaft of the arbor while the drive source is rotating the rotatable object; applying balancing weights to the rotatable object in accordance with the measured displacements; and removing the arbor from the rotatable object when a balance is achieved.

  • Patent number: 5659136
Abstract: In order to determine an imbalance of a rotor caused to turn by means of a driving arrangement, imbalance-produced deflections or accelerations of the driving arrangement, spring-loaded with respect to a stationary housing, are determined and relayed as an electrical signal to an evaluation device. The sensor may be, for example, a piezoelectric crystal for detection of accelerations of the drive unit caused by imbalance or a path sensor for detection of deflections of the drive unit relative to the housing as a result of imbalance. The signal is evaluated as a function of the rotary speed of the rotor by means of an adaptive band filter. The method is especially suitable for determination of imbalance during operation of laboratory centrifuges, where an imbalance can occur, for example, from breakage of test tubes.

  • Patent number: 4509367
Abstract: A device for indexing a rotor (17) of a machine (13) to be balanced utilizes the output signal (A) from a generator (15) connected to the machine rotor (17). The generator (15) produces a continuous sinusoidal output signal (A) proportional to the position and speed of the associated rotor (17). Detector means (37) detect a predetermined output from the generator (15) so that an indicator (41) issues an indication each time the detector means (37) detects the predetermined output. Thus, an operator can physically index the angular position of the rotor (17) with respect to the predetermined output (A) from the generator (15) when an indication is provided so that the position of the rotor (17) is referenced to the output signal (A) of the generator (15).
