Abstract: A torque sensor intended to be mounted on a rotating element in a motor vehicle, the torque sensor including at least one strain gauge disposed on an adhesive material layer. The glass layer rests on a face of a substrate made of a rigid material capable of ensuring frictional retention against the rotating element by its face that is opposite that supporting the glass layer, the torque sensor including detachable and adjustable pressure device surrounding the glass layer and the substrate, the detachable and adjustable pressure device being intended to surround the rotating element and to press the face opposite the substrate against the rotating element.
Abstract: Methods for measuring stress formed in refiners having refining discs that between them define a refining gap for refining material between bars arranged on the refining discs are disclosed. The measuring is performed over a measuring surface that constitutes a part of a refininig disc, the measuring surface comprising at least parts of more than one bar and being resiliently arranged in the surface of the refining disc. Furthermore, forces in the plane of the measuring surface are measured and both the magnitude and the direction of the forces are measured simultaneously. The invention also relates to a device for performing the method.
Abstract: A method of using a magnetic fluid clutch for torque measurement comprises steps of modulating electric current through a coil of the magnetic fluid clutch to maintain a steady-state quasi-solid phase of a magnetic fluid medium contained within the magnetic fluid clutch when the magnetic fluid clutch is clutched to transmit torque from a torque input end of the clutch to a torque output end of the clutch, thereby ensuring that the torque output end rotates in response to the rotation of the torque input end without relative rotational slippage therebetween; and measuring a deflection value associated with the magnetic fluid clutch. The clutch is thereby used as a combined torque measurement and clutch apparatus.
Abstract: A fluid coupling capable of indicating proper tightening includes a fitting body having a flared end with a back side. The fitting body also includes an indicator spaced a predetermined distance away from the back side. A threaded nut is positioned around the fitting body adjacent the flared end and includes a back end and a shoulder portion spaced away a predetermined distance therefrom. The shoulder portion is concentrically aligned with the back side of the flared end. The fluid fitting also includes a belleville washer(s) positioned around the fitting body adjacent the back side of the flared end, which is (are) compressed upon threading and torquing of the nut onto the threaded end of a male fitting. When a predetermined amount of torque has been applied to the nut, the indicator is visible adjacent the back end of the nut.
