  • Patent number: 9038488
Abstract: Methods and devices for inline sampling of a bulk material, such as a powder, are provided. The material's bulk density can be determined from samples drawn using methods and devices described herein. One embodiment of a method of sampling a material allows the material to flow through a sampling compartment, closes off the flow of material below the sampling compartment, builds up a column of material through the sampling compartment, shifts the sampling compartment to remove a slice of material in the column, and places the slice of material into a sample container. A device for sampling a material is provided in another embodiment. The device includes an inlet, an outlet aligned with the inlet, and a sample collector. The sample collector can include at least one through hole and be configured to move such that the at least one through hole can be moved into and out of alignment with the inlet and the outlet.

  • Publication number: 20140373605
Abstract: A liquid sampling system includes a liquid sampling valve for transferring a liquid sample from a primary stream to a secondary stream. The liquid sampling valve includes a rotor having a movable shuttle that is in selective fluid communication with the primary stream or the secondary stream. The rotor shuttle passes through a discharge station prior to completion of the valve cycle to discharge contaminants prior to re-exposure to the primary stream.

  • Patent number: 7797989
Abstract: A device for feeding samples to a separating device and for collecting sample fractions generated by means of the separating device, especially for high-performance liquid chromatography, with a first switch valve unit, which has at least eight ports and two switch positions. The device has a dosing device for feeding a sample to the switch valve unit, which is connected to a suction port of the first switch valve unit and which interacts with a removal and discharge device for the removal of a sample from at least one sample-holding container and for the discharge of each fraction into one of several fraction-holding containers, which is connected to a suction and discharge port of the first switch valve unit. The device uses a single switch valve unit configured in a new way to replace the function of two switch valve units, resulting in significantly simpler and cheaper construction.

  • Patent number: 7255123
Abstract: The invention Described is a device (1) for dividing a stream of particulate or pulverulent material into at least two substreams. The device has a housing (2) with a substantially vertical inlet duct (3) and two or more outlet ducts (4, 5, 6, 7) emanating from separate openings, and being separated by partition walls (9) extending radially relative to the centreline of the inlet duct (3). The device also has a rotor 11) which is located in immediate extension of the inlet duct (3), with its axis of rotation coinciding with the centreline (10) of the inlet duct. The rotor (11) has a radially configured surface (11a) for directing the falling material stream radially outwards into the free space (12) above the outlet ducts. The device is peculiar in that the radial partition walls (9) can be adjusted in the circumferential direction. The result will be a freely variable ratio between an arbitrary number of outlet substreams.

  • Patent number: 6663832
Abstract: An apparatus for high-throughput combinatorial syntheses of organic molecules including a reaction vessel for containing a combinatorial-chemistry synthetic reaction, a liquid dispenser for dispensing the liquid, a liquid aspirator and an adjustment mechanism. The reaction vessel includes an ingress aperture allowing a liquid to enter into an interior of the vessel and an egress aperture for aspirating the liquid from the vessel. The liquid dispenser dispenses liquid through the ingress aperture. The liquid aspirator aspirates liquid through the egress aperture and includes a rotor for carrying the vessel and orbiting the vessel about an axis of rotation. The rotor is oriented generally in a horizontal plane and includes an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the angle of the vessel relative to the horizontal plane in response to the centrifugal force generated by orbiting the vessel about the axis of rotation. A method of combinatorial synthesis of organic molecules is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6423548
Abstract: A method and apparatus for capturing a sample of flowable material from a closed system inside a receptacle without exposing the sample to the ambient environment. The apparatus includes a housing having an opening at one end for receiving a receptacle and stopper. An end cap is removably mounted to the housing for opening and closing the opening. An inlet is provided in the housing for feeding a cleaning or sterilizing agent or the flowable material to be sampled into an interior of the housing. A clasp is provided to manipulate the receptacle to separate the receptacle and the stopper while the stopper and receptacle are inside of the housing. Once the receptacle and the stopper are separated, the flowable material is fed into the receptacle through the inlet. The clasp is then manipulated to reattach the receptacle and the stopper in order to capture the flowable material.
