With Corer Advancing Means Patents (Class 73/864.45)
  • Patent number: 11913331
Abstract: Systems and methods presented herein include sidewall coring tools used to return core samples of rock from a sidewall of a wellbore as part of a data collection exercise for exploration and production of hydrocarbons. In particular, the systems and methods presented herein perform sidewall coring of a subterranean formation using a combination of rotary and percussive coring. More specifically, the systems and methods presented herein rotate a coring cylinder of a sidewall coring tool back and forth less than a full rotation while pushing the coring cylinder of the sidewall coring tool against a bore wall of a wellbore, and push the coring cylinder of the sidewall coring tool into the subterranean formation to enable extraction of a core sample of the subterranean formation.

The preferred device is made up of at least two parts: a hollow member with a distal end terminating in a cutting edge, a proximal end, and a lumen in between the proximal and distal ends; and a piston member. The lumen part of the hollow member close to the proximal end has a larger cross section than a lumen part close to the distal end. The piston body has at least a first body that fits snugly in the lumen part having the larger cross section and a second body is longer than length of the lumen part with a smaller cross section and fits within the smaller cross section portion of the hollow tube, creates reduced pressure when moved towards proximal end of the hollow tube is disposed within the lumen.

Abstract: A tool (20) is used to cut a sample (12′, 52′) from a roof covering (12, 52). The sample (12′, 52′) is inspected. A mastic is placed in the opening in the roof covering (12, 52) from which the sample (12′, 52′) came. The mastic forms a plug (50, 58) which closes and seals the sample opening (46, 56). The sample tool (20) has a lower end cutting edge (40). It also has handle parts (16, 18) which are connectable to the tool body (22). The handle parts are turned to cause a rotation of the tool body (22).

  • Patent number: 6260633
Abstract: A soil sampling apparatus removably mountable upon a wheeled vehicle includes a mounting frame having elongated longitudinal members adapted to adjustably extend in the direction of the length of the vehicle, and paired parallel attachment members emergent from the longitudinal members and adapted to be secured to the vehicle. A center frame is vertically positionable by virtue of sliding engagement with bushings held by the longitudinal members. A bottom panel held by the center frame has an aperture and a guide tube upwardly directed from the panel in communication with the aperture. A motor slideably positioned within the center frame holds a downwardly directed auger adapted to enter the guide tube. The motor undergoes reciprocal vertical movement within the center frame by virtue of manual downward pushing and upward lifting accomplished within an operating lever.

Abstract: An automatic sampling method and facility are disclosed, by means of which multiple samples are obtained from a closed container filled with heterogeneous solid material. The sampling points are predetermined and well distributed on the container and the sampling position and depth in the container are selected by a special controller of the sampling system. The system can be operated at an open space for non-radioactive material. The obtained samples are collected and blended in a mixer for homogenization treatment to produce a final specimen for analytical measurement. The homogeneous specimen is well accepted for its representative character.

Abstract: A relatively simple soil sampler includes a carrier for mounting on a vehicle, a mast, a carriage slidable on the mast carrying a hammer and in the form of a flighted auger of sample extraction a core tube beneath the hammer, whereby, when the carriage is moved downwardly to a position in which the core tube engages the ground, continued downward movement of the carriage brings the hammer into engagement with the core tube to drive the core tube into the ground, a winch on the mast connected to the top end of the carriage by a cable for moving the carriage upwardly to retract the core tube from the ground.

  • Patent number: RE37066
Abstract: A soil sampling system includes a rig for driving a drive casing, a sample barrel, and sample liners simultaneously into soil to be sampled. The rig includes mechanisms for driving the casing, barrel, and lining in three modes: hydraulic hammer, continuous pressure, and vibration. The three drive mechanisms can be operated singly or in any combination. After the casing, barrel, and liners are advanced a selected depth into the soil, the barrel and liners are removed. The drive casing remains in the soil. New sample liners are put into the sample barrel, and an inner rod is attached to the sample barrel. The sample barrel is then replaced into the drive casing, and extensions are attached to the drive casing. The drive casing, including extensions, and the sample barrels, along with sample liners and inner rod, are driven further down into the soil.
