Abstract: Provided herein are methods and apparatus for collecting and preserving core samples from a reservoir. In some embodiments, a method includes obtaining core samples from a reservoir using a rock and fluid sampling tool and depositing the core samples in a vessel filled with a hydrogen-free fluid such that a portion of the hydrogen-free fluid is displaced by the core samples and the core samples are immersed in the hydrogen-free fluid. The method also includes transferring a gas into the vessel to occupy a space in the vessel and sealing the vessel via a cap on an end of the vessel. Methods of analyzing the core samples core samples collected from a reservoir and a rock and fluid sampling tool are also provided.

Abstract: An improved immersible oxygen probe for molten metals has a gas permeable body including an immersion end and a support end adapted for being supported by a lance. An oxygen cell and a thermocouple are supported in the immersion end of the body. An unobstructed gas flow passageway is provided through the gas permeable bodies and through the probe body from the immersion end to the support/connector end whereby gases released from the molten metal and sensor body during immersion readily pass through the probe and can escape from within the probe. Thus rapid analysis of the molten metal with improved accuracy within a few seconds after immersion is achieved.

Abstract: A sampling device for molten metals is provided having a carrier tube and a sample chamber fixed in the carrier tube, with an inlet piece for the molten metal flowing into the sample chamber. In the inlet piece there is arranged an inlet tube, which has an outlet into the sample chamber and an inlet opening at its other end. The outlet as well as the inlet opening of the inlet tube has a reduced cross section relative to the central part of the inlet tube. The inlet tube is formed of quartz glass, and the wall of the inlet tube is crimped toward the axis of the inlet tube at its two ends.

Abstract: A sampler is provided for melts, in particular for slags lying on a molten metal, the sampler having a single- or multi-part body for arrangement in a support. The sampler has an inlet and a sample chamber with two opposing chamber walls, wherein an inlet opening is arranged in one chamber wall. In order to make possible homogeneous and stable samples, an intermediate plate with at least one through opening is arranged inside of the sample chamber spaced from the chamber walls.
