Patent number: 8429988Abstract: A soil-cement sampling device and method of sampling soil-cement is provided. The soil-cement sampling device may include an inner tube arranged within an outer tube. The inner tube may be removably connected to the outer tube and may be split into two longitudinal sections removably connected to each other. The inner and outer tubes may be inserted into a recently mixed soil-cement mixture before it hardens and a sample of the soil-cement mixture may be collected in the inner tube after it hardens. Once the sample hardens, the inner tube may be removed from the outer tube and the longitudinal sections may be separated to expose the soil-cement sample for inspection and testing.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2010Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: Schnabel Foundation CompanyInventors: Keith Schnupp, Allen Stanton

Patent number: 8424395Abstract: In a method of monitoring deposition of a noble metal in an intergranular stress corrosion crack (IGSCC) in a metal reactor shroud wall of a nuclear reactor, a metal sample may be placed at a location within near an inner surface of the metal reactor shroud wall. The sample may be submerged below a water line in the reactor and includes at least one thermal fatigue crack. The sample is maintained at the location for a given duration, and a given amount of the noble metal is added into the reactor water while the sample is maintained at the location. The sample is then removed. In an example, a surface crevice deposition monitor for a reactor includes a flow conditioner arranged between a securing mechanism and an anchor, and at least one sample holder connected between the securing mechanism and flow conditioner.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2007Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Russell Seeman, Thomas Alfred Caine, Thanh Tu

Patent number: 7472613Abstract: A device is provided for measuring metal inclusions comprising a receptacle for holding a sample of molten metal, with this receptacle having insulated side walls and a bottom wall provided with an exit opening. A ceramic filter element for collecting inclusions from the molten metal is positioned within the exit opening and is bonded to the top face of a solid refractory or metal annular support ring with a portion of the support ring top face extending laterally beyond the filter element and engaging the bottom face of the bottom wall of the receptacle around the opening. The filter element and support ring assembly is held in place by a detachable retaining means which is adapted to securely hold the support ring in leak-tight engagement against the receptacle bottom wall with the filter element positioned in the exit opening.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2004Date of Patent: January 6, 2009Assignee: Alcan International LimitedInventor: Serge Dion
