Patent number: 10428399Abstract: An immersion probe with a variable connection length is configured to compensate for longitudinal and/or radial length variations in an immersion sublance connected to the immersion probe. The immersion probe is characterized by an adjustable portion that changes length upon engagement with a coupling end of an immersion sublance. The immersion probe can have a sensor head. An immersion assembly of the immersion probe connected to an immersion sublance can be used to take measurements or samples of molten metal in a converter furnace.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 2015Date of Patent: October 1, 2019Assignee: ECIL MET TEC LTDA.Inventor: Peterney Sasso

Patent number: 8992835Abstract: Provided herein are improved multi-way cell sorter systems and methods. For example, provided are systems and methods for the collection of cells that are sorted in multiple directions. The systems and methods allow for the construction of a multi-way sorter (e.g., a ten-way sorter in the space that currently only allows four-way sorting). In addition the device may actively sense the arrival of drops (with cells of interest) at a sample tube, and trigger an alarm when the drops' arrivals deviate from an expected pattern.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2014Date of Patent: March 31, 2015Assignee: Becton, Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Gerrit Jan van den Engh, Timothy Wayne Petersen

Patent number: 8429988Abstract: A soil-cement sampling device and method of sampling soil-cement is provided. The soil-cement sampling device may include an inner tube arranged within an outer tube. The inner tube may be removably connected to the outer tube and may be split into two longitudinal sections removably connected to each other. The inner and outer tubes may be inserted into a recently mixed soil-cement mixture before it hardens and a sample of the soil-cement mixture may be collected in the inner tube after it hardens. Once the sample hardens, the inner tube may be removed from the outer tube and the longitudinal sections may be separated to expose the soil-cement sample for inspection and testing.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2010Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: Schnabel Foundation CompanyInventors: Keith Schnupp, Allen Stanton

Patent number: 7370544Abstract: A device is provided for performing measurements and/or taking samples in molten metals with a sublance, which has a sublance body, on whose one end a lance holder is arranged for receiving an immersion probe. The sublance body is movably connected to the lance holder and/or the lance holder has several parts relatively movable to each other.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2005Date of Patent: May 13, 2008Assignee: Heraeus Electro-Nite International N.V.Inventors: Guido Jacobus Neyens, Shaun Andrew Bell

Patent number: 6883392Abstract: A sampler is provided for melts, in particular for slags lying on a molten metal, the sampler having a single- or multi-part body for arrangement in a support. The sampler has an inlet and a sample chamber with two opposing chamber walls, wherein an inlet opening is arranged in one chamber wall. In order to make possible homogeneous and stable samples, an intermediate plate with at least one through opening is arranged inside of the sample chamber spaced from the chamber walls.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2003Date of Patent: April 26, 2005Assignee: Heraeus Electro-Nite International N.V.Inventors: Johan Knevels, Guido GustaafAntoon Cappa, Frank Mingneau

Patent number: 6878346Abstract: The serum transfer cup is nestable in two different size blood collection tubes such as a 13 mm diameter sample tube and a 16 mm diameter sample tube of the same axial length. The serum transfer cup includes a flange stepped down from a top edge of the cup by a distinctive axial distance that permits ultrasonic identification of the presence of the serum transfer cup regardless of which sample tube nests the serum transfer cup. The serum transfer cup has a higher elevation in the 13 mm sample tube than in the 16 mm sample tube, and the different flange heights can be detected using ultrasonic signals. Thus ultrasonic measurement of the flange position of the nested serum transfer cup identifies the presence of different serum transfer cups in the 13 mm sample tube and in the 16 mm sample tube, and also identifies the 13 mm and 16 mm sample tubes with the nested serum transfer cups.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2003Date of Patent: April 12, 2005Assignee: Bayer CorporationInventors: Thomas DeYoung, John Voulgaris, Loretta Vincent

Patent number: 6734026Abstract: A pipette gun and holster apparatus having a remote source of positive and negative air pressure. The holster supports the pipette gun above a work table with the pipette connector oriented generally, vertically downwardly. The holster has a base which may be fastened to a vertical wall. A mounting bracket is fixed to and extends transverse to the base. The bracket has a bottomless socket constructed and arranged to receive and removably hold the pipette gun by inserting the pipette connector into the socket. A switch deactivates the remote air pressure source when the pipette gun is parked in the holster and energizes the remote air pressure source when the pipette gun is removed from the holster. A method of metering fluid using a pipette gun and holster apparatus. The holster is removable fastened to a vertical surface next to or proximate a horizontal work table top.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1999Date of Patent: May 11, 2004Assignee: Drummond Scientific CompanyInventor: James W.
