  • Patent number: 10626963
Abstract: An articulated compliance mechanism for use with a support structure includes a carriage and a pair of parallel four-bar linkage arrangements. The arrangements collectively have a first set of links configured to rigidly connect to the support structure, a second set of links rotatably coupled to the carriage a distance from the first set of links, and a third set of links rotatably coupled to and spanning the distance. The compliance mechanism supports and provides the carriage, e.g., a rectangular shaped frame, with a stable equilibrium point using a gravitational restoring force, and provides the carriage with a passive translational degree of freedom along a horizontal axis in response to an input force from an operator. An additional compliance mechanism may be serially connected to provide a passive translational degree of freedom along a vertical axis. A system includes the compliance mechanism and support structure.

  • Patent number: 6728825
Abstract: An apparatus and method for reducing the number of programming states (threshold voltage levels) required to be traversed when programming a multistate memory cell with a given set of data. The invention first determines the average programming state (corresponding to an average threshold voltage level) for the set of data which is to be programmed into the memory cells. This is accomplished by counting the number of programming states which must be traversed in programming the cells with the data. If the majority of the data requires programming the memory cell(s) to the upper two programming states (in the case of a two bit per cell or four state system), then the data is inverted and stored in the memory in the inverted form. This reduces the amount of programming time, the number of programming states traversed, and the power consumed in programming the memory cell(s) with the data field.

  • Patent number: 4930713
Abstract: The known mill roll stand in a feeding apparatus of a rolled sheet of the type including at least one pair of arms having rolling centers at their tip ends and constructed so as to be swingable about an arm shaft at their base ends and so as to be movable along the arm shaft to approach to or separate from each other, is improved so that when the rolling centers are raised by swinging up the arms so as to meet with sheet rolls having different roll diameters, the rolling centers may be raised along a vertical straight line locus rather than an arc-shaped locus. The improvements reside in that the opposite ends of the arm shaft are eccentrically and pivotably supported from rotary supports on a frame of the mill roll stand, and that there is provided converter mechanism for converting the swinging locus of the rolling center into a locus along a vertical straight line.

  • Patent number: 4854810
Abstract: A parallel translation mechanism, when connected between a first element and a second element, maintains the relative direction between the two elements constant when one of those elements is moved relative to the other. The mechanism is in part formed by first and second rigid elongated members which are pivotally connected together and are pivotally connected by the end of the first elongated member to one of the elements. A first portion of an extendable member is connected between the one of the elements and the second elongated member, and a second portion is connected between the other element and the second elongated member. The other element is also pivotally connected to a position on the second elongated member. The three members of the mechanism are connected together in such a fashion that the described relative movement between the two elements is obtained. The mechanism has particular application to forklift vehicles.

Abstract: A system for transferring workpieces generally vertically from a station at one height in a workpiece support or transfer device to a station at another height in another transfer device or support. The workpiece is moved vertically by an elevator which travels along a path through the stations from a point below the lower station to a point above the upper station. To smoothly and rapidly move the workpiece the elevator is accelerated and decelerated and dwells at least when picking up and depositing a workpiece. To avoid collisions, interference and the necessity of precisely synchronizing movement of the transfer and elevator, when in its fully raised and lowered positions, the elevator is clear of and does not interfere with the transfer and supports and any workpieces in the stations.

  • Patent number: 4684088
Abstract: The support apparatus in the form of a stand possesses an arm component projecting transversely from a stand component. A surgical operating microscope is arranged at the end of the arm component. A guide linkage with a double scissors type carrier linkage whose movement is combined with an extension movement is provided for the displacement of the operating microscope in a direction transverse to the stand component. This extension movement is controlled by a control linkage in such a way that the upper end of the carrier linkage which carries the stand arm component moves along a straight line. There is thus no need for a counterweight for the transverse movement of the operating microscope over a surgical operating table. A first counterweight for the upwardly and downwardly directed swinging movement of the stand arm component is enclosed in a space saving manner within a housing of the stand component, conjointly with a substantial portion of the guide linkage.
