Abstract: A method of producing a rack is proposed, which comprises aligning a first bar piece, an intermediate piece and a second bar piece in order along a common axis; carrying out a first process in which the first and second bar pieces are stationarily held while showing a predetermined intersection angle between the first rack teeth on the first bar piece and the second rack teeth on the second bar piece; and carrying out a second process in which each of the first and second bar pieces and the intermediate piece are brought into contact with each other at mutually facing ends and subjected to a relative rotation therebetween for a friction welding thereby to join the first bar piece, the intermediate piece and the second bar piece together by the friction welding.

Abstract: Disclosed is a rack-pinion type steering apparatus. According to the present invention, since air can flow into the interior of a gearbox from the exterior of the gearbox, unlike in the conventional structure in which an internal air flow into the gearbox is blocked at a portion of a rack-pinion type steering apparatus connected with the gearbox through a rack housing and a bellows, a problem of increasing internal pressure of the bellows in a predetermined case can be solved, and accordingly, generation of noise due to the collision between an inner peripheral surface of the bellows and an inner ball joint can be prevented.

Abstract: A drive system is provided for rotating a biopsy member. The drive system includes a pinion connected to the biopsy member and a rack that drives the pinion during a drive stroke. During the return stroke, the rack rotates away from the pinion so that the rack is not engaged with the pinion during the return stroke. Thus, the pinion is only driven during the drive stroke but not during the return stroke. As a result, the biopsy member rotates in a single direction as a trigger is repeatedly pressed and released.
