Abstract: A ball screw apparatus having a revolving position detector for detecting revolutions of a ball screw nut and a ball spline nut and a number-of-revolutions altering means for issuing a command to decrement or increment the number of revolutions of the ball screw nut so that a difference between sets of revolution numbers becomes zero. In the ball screw apparatus, a driving motor is disposed in parallel with a driving shaft. An output of the driving motor is transmitted via a belt to each nut. When driving the motor in a clutch-off/brake-on state, only the ball screw nut is driven to revolve, and the driving shaft is slid in the axial direction. When driving the motor in a clutch-on/brake-off state, the two nuts revolve together, and the driving shaft is rotationally driven. A reduction ratio on the side of the ball screw nut is set equal to that on the side of the ball spline nut, whereby the two nuts synchronously revolve.

Abstract: A bevel gear backlash adjusting mechanism is disclosed in which a bevel gear is carried by a bearing and is rotatably carried by a stationary shaft so as to be axially shiftable therewith. The stationary shaft includes a supporting portion carried by the frame of a power tool, the supporting portion having a section slotted at an angle to the axis of the shaft. An adjustable slide is also supported by the frame and extends into the angled slotted section of the stationary shaft with an edge thereof formed as a ramp at an angle corresponding to the angle of the slotted section and in engagement therewith. Motion of the adjustable slide normal to the shaft will influence axial motion of the stationary shaft and the bevel gear carried thereon so as to allow an adjustment of the mesh between the bevel gear and its associated bevel gear.

  • Patent number: 4532822
Abstract: An adjustable mounting for a shaft on a thin metal support plate wherein a cylindrical lounting flange is punched out of the plate to form an opening, and a bearing is rotatably mounted within the opening. The bearing has a radial flange engaging the external side of the plate and has a threaded inner end extending beyond the inner end of the plate flange. A nut is threaded on the threaded end and has a bore telescoped over the plate flange. The inner end of the nut has an edge which is tightened against the internal side of the plate. The plate flange, the nut and the radial bearing flange rigidify the contiguous area of the plate to minimize deflection. A flat adjusting member lays against the outer side of the support plate and has a rectangular aperture with parallel side edges which mate with chordal edges on the radial flange of the bearing. Rotation of the adjusting member causes the bearing to rotate.

Abstract: A torque division gearing assembly having an intermediate shaft drivingly connected with the output drive shaft is provided with a pre-fabricated bush means permitting angular positioning of the intermediate shaft in its torque branch gear train. An intermediate shaft gear for driving the intermediate shaft is connected by key means to a bushing element positioned concentrically about the intermediate shaft and rotatable relative thereto. The bushing element is provided at its opposite end with a gear teeth connection for interlocking with a corresponding gear tooth ring formed on a connection bush. At the other end of the connection bush, there is formed another gear teeth ring of reduced diameter for meshing with a corresponding gear teeth portion formed on the intermediate shaft. The two gear teeth rings on the connection bush have different diametral pitches, preferably amounting to one, in order to permit angular adjustment between the shaft and gear without disrupting the drive connection therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4407198
Abstract: An arrangement for securing pure skew adjustment of a cylinder, for example, a plate cylinder in a sheet-fed rotary printing press relative to an adjacent blanket cylinder. A bearing assembly at one end of the plate cylinder includes a cylinder bearing telescoped over the shaft and having flat support surfaces thereon facing radially outward in opposite directions. A guide bearing having a cylindrical outer surface is formed with a central window for receiving the cylinder bearing. The window defines a pair of flat inwardly facing way surfaces spaced parallel to one another for snug reception of the flat support surfaces on the cylinder bearing. The window also defines side walls spaced sufficiently to permit freedom of adjustment of the cylinder bearing along the way surfaces. An eccentric sleeve is fitted between the guide bearing and the frame with means for rockably adjusting the same to move the plate cylinder toward and away from the blanket cylinder thereby to vary the impression.

Abstract: The present invention is a device for a multicolor printing machine which permits continuous and precise axial setting of a form cylinder to obtain quality register printing during the printing operation of the machine. After setting of the form cylinder, it is also possible to eliminate clearance between the elements of the setting mechanism. The control elements are advantageously arranged on one side of the machine in such a manner as to be easily accessible for the operator. The device enables the elimination of clearance between the elements necessary for the axial setting by means of securing elements and the coupling of the drive gear with the form cylinder by means of a carrier in which the radial clearance has been eliminated and as a result, the shifting of the drive gear is made possible without introduction of radial clearance.
