Abstract: A radially adjustable gearwheel for driving a cylinder of an offset press. The gear rim has three axially disposed tapered bores into which axially tapered bolts can be pressed to act radially on the gear rim. Additional axial bores are provided between the tapered bores to form expansion webs in the gear rim. The tapered bolts, in conjunction with the expansion webs, subject the gear rim to varying radial deformation in a gently rising parabolic curve depending on the tension applied to the tapered bolts so that the deformed gearwheel rolls with minimal impact and shock forces.

  • Patent number: 4952123
Abstract: A gear wheel driven air compressor that is constructed as a piston compressor, the drive gear wheel of which, on the air compressor crankshaft, meshes with a gear wheel on the camshaft of the internal combustion engine. With drives of this type, the negative torque of the air compressor, which is produced once the upper dead center position of the air compressor piston has been reached, leads to a sudden flank change in the tooth mesh, which is associated with an unpleasant noise. In order to reduce this noise, it is known to make the meshing flank clearance as small as possible. However, clearances which are too small lead to increased rotational bending strain on the air compressor crankshaft and the camshaft. In order to prevent this, a sinusoidal meshing flank clearance change is proposed, which is obtained via a specific eccentricity of the air compressor drive gear wheel, which is associated with the upper dead center position of the air compressor piston.

  • Patent number: 4944664
Abstract: A concrete wall forming apparatus is described that facilitates formation of an elongated concrete wall between opposed sheet forms. An assemblable frame mounts the sheet forms in upright opposed orientations. The frame supports pairs of driven rollers that move against external surfaces of the sheet forms along the length of the wall as concrete is being poured. Each pair of rollers is driven by a selectively removable drive assembly including a single motor drive and gear arrangement by which both rollers of the pair are driven simultaneously. At least one of the rollers is connected to the driving gears through a clutch arrangement. The clutch may be selectively operated to disengage the roller at the inside of a corner, thereby allowing that roller to remain stationary while the remaining roller rotates to move about the outward radius of the corner.

  • Patent number: 4887478
Abstract: In a multiple-step gear drive there are two stationary toothed wheels, comprising a driving wheel and a driven wheel. Their spacing and positions remain constant as the housing that supports gear trains is rotated. For each gear step or position there is a gear train. Each train comprising one or several gear-wheels and in engagement with each other, all these gear-wheels being rotatably jounalled in a housing. The housing is movable substantially parallel to a plane running perpendicular to the shafts of the stationary toothed wheels, to be brought into a specific engagement position for each gear step in which the gear train is in engagement with both stationary toothed wheels. The housing and gear wheels are thus arranged so that in at least one gear step the housing can be disengaged from its engaged position in two substantially opposite directions, thus moving the corresponding gear train in the selected direction and thereby breaking the driving connection between the two stationary toothed wheels.

The assembly includes a transaxle (16) having a two-speed transmission (40) and a drive axle differential (46) disposed in a unitary housing assembly (38), an oil-cooled prime mover or electric motor (14) for driving the transmission input shaft (42), an adapter assembly (24) for supporting the prime mover on the transaxle housing assembly, and a hydraulic system (172) providing pressurized oil flow for cooling and lubricating the electric motor and transaxle and for operating a clutch (84) and a brake (86) in the transmission to shift between the two-speed ratios of the transmission. The adapter assembly allows the prime mover to be supported in several positions on the transaxle housing. The brake is spring-applied and locks the transmission in its low-speed ratio should the hydraulic system fail. The hydraulic system pump is driven by an electric motor (212) independent of the prime mover and transaxle.

  • Patent number: 4260386
Abstract: A variable ratio, or adjustable ratio, mechanical drive mechanism employs a rotatable driving element the effective diameter of which may be changed. The driving element is segmented to permit effective diameter change by an alteration in the relative position of the segments.Alteration is effected by forcing a change in the separation of the axis of driving element and the point of engagement of the driving element with the driven element.

  • Patent number: 4004478
Abstract: A shaft for a cutter mechanism having a cutter blade secured to the periphery thereof is rotatably mounted in a frame mechanism. A driven pulley is nonrotatably secured to the end of the cutter shaft and is connected to a pair of drive pulleys by a flexible timing belt that transmits rotation to the cutter shaft and the cutter blade. Rotation of the cutter blade cuts notches in the side edges of a moving web. A plate member is pivotally connected to the frame mechanism and includes an aperture through which the cutter shaft extends. An adjusting cam is eccentrically mounted to the frame mechanism and is secured to the plate member. A pair of idler shafts are secured to the plate member and extend outwardly therefrom. A pair of idler pulleys are rotatably positioned on the idler shafts respectively and engage the timing belt to maintain a preselected tension thereon.
