  • Patent number: 4815372
Abstract: A baler comprises means for securing a completed bale of material and metering means for triggering the operation of the securing means. The metering means includes a pinion drivingly connectable with a trip arm. Relative driving movement between the trip arm and the pinion takes place on rotation of the pinion until the pinion engages a recess in the trip arm, at which point, operation of the securing means is triggered. The extent of the relative driving movement between the trip arm and the pinion is representative of a dimension of the bale being formed. The metering means further comprises a roller mounted on the trip arm at the entry of the recess for engaging the pinion when the pinion is at the point to enter the recess thereby breaking the driving connection between the pinion and the trip arm.

  • Patent number: 4702458
Abstract: A jacking apparatus having a quick release mechanism for disengaging the main shaft of the jack from the jacking gear to allow the main shaft to be selectively raised and lowered as desired without operating the jacking gear. The main shaft has a plurality of teeth disposed thereon in facing relationship with the jacking gear, which is preferably a worm gear mechanism. Abstract: In a processor of photosensitive material, a torque sensor actuates an alarm when a helical gear is subjected to torque in excess of a first predetermined value. The torque sensor includes a helical gear positioned on a shaft and biased against a stop. The gear is slidably attached to the shaft along the axis of the shaft and is fixedly attached to the shaft in an angular direction by a key. A shoulder of a flexible rubber boot movable with the gear along the shaft axis moves with the gear when the torque exceeds the first predetermined value and actuates a switch to warn the operator. In addition, as the torque increases, the gear slidably moves along the shaft past the key, thereby allowing the shaft to freely rotate in an angular direction within the gear.

At least one of the gears of the gearing is radially and at an angle indirectly or moveably mounted, and is connected indirectly or directly with an armature, which in turn cooperates with the electromagnet. The gearing includes a gearwheel operatively coordinated to the at least one gear. A spring biases the armature with a spring force for moving the one gear out of engagement with the gearwheel when the electromagnet is without current. The spring cooperates with means for reducing the pretension of the spring in the neutral position of the regulating device.

The adjustment nut associated with each of the four tie bars has gear teeth and can be adjusted by means of disengagable idler gears commonly engaging a centrally located bull gear for selectively adjusting one or more of the tie bars. In one embodiment of the invention, strain gauges are placed on the threaded sleeves for detecting the lockup force applied to the tie bars through the sleeves and an electrical control circuit is employed for automatically controlling the tie bar adjustment mechanism to maintain tie bar tension within prescribed limits during production operation of the die casting machine.
