  • Patent number: 4003270
Abstract: This invention relates to a coupling mechanism with means for disengagement and automatic reengagement of the spool in a spinning reel. The coupling mechanism comprises mating coupling members, one of which forms a driven coupling member supported by the spool and the other forms a driving coupling member supported by a gear which is rotatable by a crank. According to the preferred embodiment, the spool of the reel is, together with its coupling member, rotatably journaled in the spinning reel independent of the unit which comprises the driving coupling member and guide means, and this unit is, in the disengagement position of the driving coupling member, supported completely free from contact in relation to the spool and to elements connected to the spool, with the driving coupling member axially directed for shifting to the engagement position.

First and second gear rods are provided in spaced parallel coplanar flanking relation with the main gear. First and second worm gears are affixed to first ends of the first and second worm gear rods, respectively, each on a corresponding side of the main gear. A pivotally mounted support device supports the gear rods with the first and second worm gears on diametrically opposite sides of the main gear. A drive device is coupled to the gear rods for rotating the first and second worm gears. An electromagnetic control device is coupled to the support device for alternately moving the first and second worm gears into coupling relation with the main gear thereby alternately rotating the main gear clockwise and counterclockwise and moving wiper blade in a wide arc.

  • Patent number: 3972597
Abstract: An assembly, specifically a mirror assembly for a motor vehicle, in part angularly adjustable by an electric motor and drive mechanism. A fixed motor drives a worm that is angularly movable through a flexible coupling into selective engagement with one of two nuts to drive adjusting screws that cause a mirror element to pivot about one of two mutually perpendicular axes. The screws and pivot structure for the mirror are integrally formed as part of a mirror supporting plate. The nuts are yieldably coupled to the threads of the adjusting screws to permit slippage between the two when forces exceed the wormed driving force. Operating noise is reduced by a vibration-damping motor mounting and by structure limiting worm engagement with the nuts. Projections are carried by the mirror supporting plate resiliently biased against a fixed support to reduce vibration.
