  • Patent number: 8755978
Abstract: A system for controlling a transmission of a vehicle based on input from a shifter includes first, second, third, and fourth position sensors and a position determination module. The shifter includes a shift lever. The first and second position sensors sense first and second positions of the shift lever, respectively, with respect to first and second axes, respectively, wherein the first and second axes are orthogonal to one another. The third and fourth position sensors sense third and fourth positions of the shift lever, respectively, with respect to third and fourth axes, respectively, wherein the third and fourth axes are orthogonal to one another. In addition, the first and second axes are non-orthogonal to the third and fourth axes. The position determination module determines a position of the shift lever based on the first, second, third, and fourth positions.

Abstract: An actuating device for a technical system, especially for selecting gears of a shift-by-wire speed-change gear. The actuating device includes an actuating element (1), which is movable in relation to a base area (3), with at least two switching positions. At least one additional switching element (5), which acts on a signal transmission (8) with a signal transmitter (6), is arranged at the actuating element (1). The additional switching element (5) and the signal transmitter (8) are connected by a mechanical transmission element. However, the signal transmitter (6) is connected to the base area (3) of the actuating device. The present invention makes it possible to embody a robust additional switching element, which is protected from disturbances, at an actuating element. Mobile and hence susceptible cablings to the additional switching element, which were hitherto necessary, are eliminated.

  • Patent number: 8544358
Abstract: An actuating device for selecting gear steps in a gearshift transmission. The actuating device comprises a selector lever that can be moved between at least two drive-setting positions and a locking mechanism for restricting the movement range of the lever and locking certain positions or for locking the selector lever. The locking mechanism comprises a locking recess connected to the selector lever and a blocking cam that can be rotated by an actuator. The cam engages in the locking recess. Complex locking tasks are possible with the simplified actuating device. In addition, the range of movement of the selector lever can be freely positioned largely variably and its width can be changed. Furthermore, the selector lever of the actuating device is movable by the actuator or locked in a desired position.

  • Patent number: 8525460
Abstract: An SEA architecture for controlling the torque applied by an SEA that has particular application for controlling the position of a robot link. The SEA architecture includes a motor coupled to one end of an elastic spring and a load coupled to an opposite end of the elastic spring, where the motor drives the load through the spring. The orientation of the shaft of the motor and the load are measured by position sensors. Position signals from the position sensors are sent to an embedded processor that determines the orientation of the load relative to the motor shaft to determine the torque on the spring. The embedded processor receives reference torque signals from a remote controller, and the embedded processor operates a high-speed servo loop about the desired joint torque. The remote controller determines the desired joint torque based on higher order objectives by their impedance or positioning objectives.

  • Patent number: 8485059
Abstract: The invention relates to an actuation device for a shift-by-wire-actuated gearshift transmission. It includes a shifter base and an actuating element pivotally supported in a bearing location of the shifter base. The actuation device further includes at least one actuator for blocking the actuation element. Here, the actuator, in addition to its blocking function, is configured for generating mechanical vibrations or oscillations. A tactile feedback for the user of the actuation device with low design complexity is provided for flexible, tactile signaling of switching processes or locked actuation positions of a selection lever. Existing actuation devices can potentially be upgraded for tactile feedback purely by software-side changes.
