Patent number: 4441596Abstract: A vehicle inching mechanism is interlocked with a braking mechanism so as to overlap their operating ranges without hampering the low-speed start or stop of the vehicle by the inching mechanism. An inching pedal and a brake pedal are mounted side by side on a stationary shaft via sleeves rotatably fitted thereover and linked to an inching valve and a brake master cylinder, respectively. The sleeves have square jaws at their opposed ends for mating engagement, with clearances therebetween to allow rotation of either sleeve relative to the other within limits. A torsion spring is anchored at one end to the inching pedal sleeve and held at the other end against an abutment on the brake pedal sleeve. Upon depression of the inching pedal, therefore, not only the inching valve but also the brake master cylinder is activated, first through the torsion spring and then through the intermeshing jaws. The depression of the brake pedal results only in the actuation of the master cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1981Date of Patent: April 10, 1984Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Komatsu SeisakushoInventors: Teruo Nakahara, Shingo Ota, Masaru Nakamura

Patent number: 4255984Abstract: A control assembly is for use in a vehicle having a transmission with an output shaft whose speed and direction are continuously adjustable by means of a selector rod. A pedal is movable in one direction from a rest position and a switchable mechanism connects the selector rod with the pedal. In a first condition when the pedal is depressed, the switchable mechanism causes the selector rod to move in one direction from a central position in which the output shaft does not rotate. This in turn causes the output shaft to rotate in one direction. When the switchable mechanism is shifted to a second condition, depressing the pedal causes the selector rod to move in the opposite direction from its central position, and this causes the output shaft to rotate in the opposite direction. Shifting of the switchable mechanism from one condition to another is effected by a solenoid which is controlled by a circuit.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1979Date of Patent: March 17, 1981Inventors: Theodor Abels, Bernhard Gotz

Patent number: 3963391Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling speed and torque of hand held air driven vane type motors is available in several embodiments. For example, one embodiment is used in tool and die work and another embodiment is used in dental work. In reference to the latter, a foot operated control regulates the speed of an air driven handpiece, driving in turn various tools such as cutters and drills as they are generally used in a dental laboratory, by regulating the flow of compressed air both to and from the handpiece. Application of an operator's foot pressure on a floor level foot control, simultaneously depresses two valves which control the flow of compressed air. One valve controls the flow of compressed air from its source to the handpiece, and one valve controls the release into the atmosphere of compressed air from the handpiece.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1974Date of Patent: June 15, 1976Inventors: Fred E. Patent number: 3952512Abstract: Coordinated control of engine speed, transmission drive ratio and drive direction is provided for with a single foot pedal and a compact economical linkage arrangement for coupling the pedal to a vehicle engine and hydrostatic transmission. Forward rocking of the pedal from a neutral position progressively increases transmission drive ratio in the forward direction while backward rocking of the pedal from the neutral position progressively increases the drive ratio in the reverse direction. The pedal linkage further produces a unidirectional progressive motion of the engine speed control upon being rocked in either the forward or backward direction and this engine speed control motion may be continued by additional pedal movement after the transmission control member has reached the maximum possible movement in either direction.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1975Date of Patent: April 27, 1976Assignee: Towmotor CorporationInventor: Murray D.
