  • Patent number: 10824184
Abstract: I was training my teen student driver on the road when I came up with this brilliant yet innovative idea. It is very hard to control the vehicle by just merely yelling “BRAKE” to the student driver. It is unfair to other motorists the risk they are unknowingly taking without an absolute control of the vehicle of a professional driver who is just sitting on the passenger side. In view of this unsafe training condition, I designed and fabricated a Famor Extension Brake. It is a mechanical device that is easily installed on any motor vehicle without modifications. Using this device, the passenger can independently apply the brake to the vehicle when the driver fails to do so. These can be a student, old or destructed drivers.

Abstract: Some automobiles have mechanisms for adjusting the height of accelerator and brake pedals, and any clutch pedal, so that drivers large and small can adjust the pedals to the best height. All pedals are adjusted by a single reversible electric motor having a shaft connected directly or by a flexible shaft to the adjusting mechanisms. If any fault develops in any mechanism, the pedals may not be adjusted to the same height, which is hazardous to the driver. A safety switching system detects any serious misalignment of the pedals and de-energizes the motor. The system comprises separate switches which are operable by adjustment of the pedals, and are electrically connected in series with the power supply circuit for the motor. When the pedals are aligned, the bridging contactors of the switches are aligned and are effective to maintain the electrical continuity of the motor circuit. Each contactor has three contact sliders which successively engage staggered tabs on contact strips for the respective pedals.

  • Patent number: 6347560
Abstract: A shift control system includes a shift pedal (13), a first linkage mechanism (16, 18, 19, 20) for transmitting a downward displacement of the shift pedal to the stepless transmission to change a shift position of the stepless transmission, a retaining mechanism (30, 40, 41, 42) for producing a retaining position corresponding to the shift position to retain the shift position of the stepless transmission, and a shift lever (26) for setting the retaining position retained by the retaining mechanism. A second linkage mechanism (34, 35, 36) is provided for transmitting of an operating displacement of the shift lever to the shift pedal to displace the shift pedal to a depressed position corresponding to the retaining position set by the shift lever and retained by the retaining mechanism. The shift lever, retaining mechanism and second linkage mechanism are attachable and detachable independently of the first linkage mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6289783
Abstract: A control system controls actuation of a hydraulic cylinder on a skid steer loader. The control system includes a movable element, movable by an operator. A position sensor is coupled to the movable element and provides a position signal indicative of a position of the movable element. A controller is coupled to the position sensor to receive the position signal and provide a control signal based on the position signal. A valve spool controls flow of hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic cylinder. An actuator is coupled to the controller and the valve spool and moves the valve spool in response to the control signal from the controller.

  • Patent number: 6263753
Abstract: A control device for vehicle steering, braking and accelerator, including but not limited to motor vehicles for use by handicapped drivers, especially those handicapped in the lower limbs, is provided. The control device relates to a system utilizing the steering wheel to accomplish both steering and braking and an accelerator lever device to control the accelerator operations of the vehicle. Specifically, the present invention relates to a system wherein the steering is accomplished in a normal manner by the driver, but the driver need only push forward on the steering wheel to accomplish the braking operations or move a lever device to control the speed of the vehicle. The control device for vehicle steering, braking and accelerator may be employed in any vehicle, including but not limited to motor vehicles, with a mechanical or an automatic gear box.

Abstract: A steering and control system is disclosed which includes a steering wheel that not only allows for the operator to accomplish the steering of a vehicle, but also allows the operator to merely exert a force on the steering to control the braking mechanism of a vehicle. The steering wheel, acting as a unitary device for controlling two of the principal operations of a vehicle, provides the operator with improved handling capabilities and does so without the operator needing to use his/her feet which makes the control system of the vehicle particularly suited for handicapped individuals.

  • Patent number: 6041673
Abstract: A dual function throttle control system is disclosed for earthmoving machines. The throttle control system includes a hand lever that is electrically connected to a proportional directional hydraulic valve. Rotation of the hand lever controls actuation of an engine speed actuator and thus the speed of the engine. A foot pedal is connected through a three position spring-centered hydraulic valve to the engine speed actuator. The direction of flow of hydraulic fluid through the three position spring-centered hydraulic valve is controlled by the position of the hand lever. When the hand lever is set at the lowest speed setting, rotation of the foot pedal in a first direction increases the engine speed. When the control lever is set at the highest speed setting, rotation of the foot pedal in the first direction decreases the speed of the engine. Thus, the foot pedal operates both as a decelerator or an accelerator depending on the position of the hand lever.

  • Patent number: 6006880
Abstract: A power take-off release mechanism for automatically disengaging a power take-off unit and accessory equipment powered thereby is disclosed. The power take-off release mechanism interconnects a clutch foot pedal mechanism of a vehicle having a manual transmission to a throw out arm on the power take-off unit. The power take-off unit includes a mechanical cable linkage which functions to engage the power take-off unit in a conventional manner. Thereafter, whenever the manual clutch foot pedal is depressed to put the vehicle in gear under normal driving conditions, the power take-of mechanism of the present invention is automatically actuated to disengage the power take-off unit thereby preventing the same from being operated at higher engine revolutions under normal driving conditions. In one embodiment, the power take-off release mechanism includes a mechanical cable linkage that interconnects the clutch foot pedal with the mechanical throw out arm on the power take off unit.

Abstract: A push-button actuated system for an ATV transmission such as those used on a Honda 300 where a DC motor is connected to a cable linkage, which in turn is connected to the gear change pedal now used to upshift and downshift gears of a semi-automatic transmission. The cable linkage is arranged so that a clockwise rotation of the DC motor causes a cable to pull upwardly on the gear change pedal. A counterclockwise rotation of the DC motor causes the cable linkage to pull downwardly on the pedal. Variations do away with the pedal and cause rotation of the operative transmission shaft in the same manner as the pedal.
